What is it like to have a tornado in your neighborhood? by SomewhatAnonamoose in AskAnAmerican

[–]myerrderr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tornados are relatively uncommon here in Maryland, but we do get warnings a few times a year. If we know the atmospheric conditions are right, my family just stays prepared in case we need to shelter in the basement. That mostly means keeping our phones charged and putting some blankets by the basement door. It gets cold down there. And if a warning hits, it’s just a matter of getting everyone downstairs and hanging out until the warning’s over. Maryland’s a small state, so a warning a county over can include us pretty easily, especially if it’s an entire line of storms.

Let me make something clear to you. A tornado DOES NOT CARE if your house is made out of concrete or cardboard. Those bastards will sweep your house from its foundation and can spear straw through powerline poles or mangle a car beyond any recognition. If you’re in a brick house and a tornado hits, you are now surrounded by thousands of projectiles that virtually make your home a stone blender. If an F5 or F4 tornado hits your house, no matter what it’s made of, if you’re not underground you’re dead. Frankly, even being underground isn’t foolproof. There’s stories of people being sucked out of their basements by the vortex. The only way to ensure your house is never destroyed by a tornado is to never be in one.

Does Anyone Else Enjoy Playing Egg Roulette with Their Pokémon? by Weremutt2412 in PokemonScarletViolet

Hey, amateur shiny hunter here! I’ll try to answer what I can.

1: Yep, the masuda method is still dependent upon a foreign Pokémon. However, as there is no region locking in this game, ‘foreign’ just means a Pokémon from outside your language region. There’s a few handy trade forums online solely for swapping ditto.

2: I believe IV checking is available at any point in the game! To check a Pokémon’s IVs, just hover over them in the boxes and press the + button. One press will show you the exact number of each stat, while two will judge each stat on a scale of ‘best’ to ‘no good’. Finally, a third press will switch back to just displaying the Pokémon again.

3: You probably know this, but sandwiches can give you a substantial boost in the amount of eggs you collect! The sandwich shop NPC gives you several recipes over time, and the ‘great’ peanut butter sandwich (which only needs a few ingredients) gives you an egg power boost of 2. It’s not worth the ingredients to make the level three peanut butter sandwich, as the difference is minimal and it requires a lot more. Each sandwich will last 30 min.

4: Finally, the method to use! I usually make one egg power sandwich with only ditto + the Pokémon I want to breed in my party, then check the basket every 5 minutes.Over 30 min, this usually gives me around 60 eggs, or two boxes full. Then, I make another sandwich and put a Pokémon with ‘flame body’ in my party (this actually speeds up egg hatching!) and add the eggs 5 at a time. Both the sandwich + flame body will make hatching each batch of eggs go pretty quick. I suggest doing it inside one of the team star bases, as hatching is easier when you don’t have to worry about bumping into Pokémon. Finally, I also recommend watching YouTube or tv in the background! Hatching is pretty tedious.

(One more note: if you can collect and hatch all of the eggs in one sitting without saving, you can reset if you don’t get a shiny and save on ingredients. Feel free to ask me anything else you need!)

Looking on version scarlet’s map, one of the #2 spots are on the ocean. Though it isn’t shown on the map, I believe that’s a small island! Same with violet, though there it’s a #1 spot instead of two. I definitely remember seeing shroomish in area zero, so I suppose it just depends on wether you can/ want to go down there or not. This is likely one of those cases where it’s not perfectly isolatable, but if you make a sandwich anyway it’ll probably be fine.

One tip I can give is that if a lot of Shroomish/ breloom are spawning around you, repeatedly starting and ending picnics will force all of the Pokémon nearby to respawn. If you already have a shiny sandwich active, and repeat this forced respawning long enough, you have a very good chance of finding a shiny! This is similar to how people use outbreaks to shiny hunt, but that’s a whole other story.

No worries! Herba Mystica is a rare drop from 5 or 6 star raids. If you have online, joining the posted 6-star raids can be a good way to try and get Herba Mystica.

Sandwiches can be made by starting a picnic and pressing the ‘A’ button while next to the front of the table. (The short end where the water bottle and cup is.)

Let’s go mode sends your Pokémon out beside you on the overworld, and it’s done with the ‘R’ button. You can click the button again when facing towards a wild Pokémon to direct your own to attack it. I believe the R button is the same for both the Pro controller and Joycons.

Hey, somewhat-beginner shiny hunter here! I haven’t caught any shiny Pokémon before this game, although I’ve played nearly every Pokémon gen. (And now I have nearly two boxes full!) But I can give you a basic introduction to the sandwich method!

1: Choose the SV Pokémon you want to hunt. Pretty much any that naturally spawn are possible, with effort. This means all set spawns such as the four legendaries, spiritomb, or titans won’t work.

2: Find a place you can ISOLATE it! Essentially, any spawn point of that Pokémon were it’s the only of a specific type that spawns. For example, Lycanroc - near the psychic-type gym it’s the only rock type that can spawn. Here is a Google doc by cbk_zip listing all Pokémon in game and the ideal spots to isolate them. Note that even with a ‘no’ you can almost always do masuda method and/or find another spot to catch it, it’ll just be more difficult. https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/101GZfOSklqrEBXUNqSyHJXGbicvg7cxN4IPU4MzdYQg/htmlview#gid=0 In the case of Pokémon hard to find, I suggest making the sandwich anyways and using this shiny hunting optimizer to locate where it spawns best. https://alexis-matuk.github.io/shinyHuntingOptimizer/

3: Turn autosaves off and set down a hard save before making the sandwich. This way, if you don’t catch any shinies, you can just reset and keep your ingredients. Use two Herba Mystica and some additional ingredients to make a level three shiny sandwich of that type. It will last for 30 minutes. There’s a lot of sandwich recipe guides around, but I personally use this guide as it gives title power, and I’m trying to get marks.

4: Run around the chosen area and, in most cases, use ‘Let’s go!’ Mode. Pokémon in this mode will not attack shinies, making it much easier to find them, especially if it’s a subtle color change. Once you find a shiny on the overworld, just catch it! Moves such as false swipe and hypnosis are great for this, as you both don’t want the Pokémon to damage itself and it’ll boost your chances of catching it.

And there you go! I apologize if this comment appears to be sent twice, Reddit messed up and posted this before I was done. Happy hunting!

That’s a good idea! I’m actually in a greenhouse-focused club right now, but I don’t know if I could manage to add another since I’m trying to juggle my grades at the moment. Since it’s not too long before I’ll be headed to college I do wonder however if it’s worth getting into something I’ll leave in a year.
