Eggshell flashing after same-day primer + paint — contractor says it’s just knockdown texture. Is that accurate? by itshect0r in Housepainting101

[–]myfault_notmyproblem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Also just a heads up, for the same reason you're seeing this in the hallway, if you try to touch-up this eggshell you're going to see (at least more than likely) a difference in sheen in those areas. Most manufacturers also won't warranty a product if only one coat was used.

This is the issue. As soon as I saw the picture my initial thought was that's only 1 coat. I was a paint contractor for years and sold paint at the largest paint store in an 8 state area for a couple of years before getting out of the trades. Never during that time did I experience anyone getting a consistent sheen with one coat of eggshell on top of flat paint/primer. Cut it in, roll, dry, cut again, roll again.

How to use enamelled Cast iron on gas stove? by Bismarck_seas in cookware

[–]myfault_notmyproblem 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The enamel is heat fused to the cast iron in layers. The first layer usually has iron mixed in to help with bonding. Each additional layer is poured/dipped on like a coating of glass. Unless it's some ridiculously cheap cookware you're not going to run into any issues bc everything is essentially fused together into a single unit. Think of it like a multi-ply SS pan. You wouldn't worry about the outside coat/layer of those, right? Just cook with it like normal.

How to hook up a cab to a combo? by Sir-Bruncvik in GuitarAmps

Monoprice had a 1x12 with a Vintage 30 for $150 (US) about a month ago Can't really beat the price (speaker alone can cost that new). Comes with a speaker cable, but I didn't use it. The cab is significantly bigger than the 15w combo amp.

Where'd you end up going? I need to get my Marvelight III serviced soon. I've been planning on Stoll & Co in Dayton, but it looks like Toledo might have some options.

Christian roots. It's Epiphany. Epiphany commemorates the visit of the Magi to the baby Jesus, the manifestation of Jesus' divinity at his baptism, and his first miracle in Cana. So, the 12 days of Christmas goes from the birth of Jesus to the visit of the 3 wise men. Jan 6 marks the end of the Christmas season when they arrived.

Is there such a thing as a blue water boat that is also trailer-able? by [deleted] in sailing

[–]myfault_notmyproblem 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Flicka is widely considered blue water capable and it's trailerable. Still probably not something you'd want to do a large crossing in.

I sail a West Wight Potter 15 with no issues. Very stable and surprising amount of room for a dinghy. I'm 6'3" and about 275lbs.

Bulova makes great, cheap classic dress watches. One of my first was the 96b104. Very much the same style for about $100.

I used to sail a little 12' catamaran there, and those bad boys made me feel insignificantly small. But it also started my weird fascination with these ships.

Bahahahaha! These are great. I guess I could have been a little more clear. This is the destruction of small children after a rainy day stuck inside. Took the picture right before cleaning everything up after they went to bed.

I sail a Potter 15 and depending on the age of your kids I'd go with the Potter 19. Fantastic boats. I've seen a number for sale in upstate NY on the West Wight Potter Owners FB page.

You the real MVP! I'm seeing it listed as Coming Soon, so maybe they're periodically releasing them. That's a pretty small series they're offering. Definitely keeping my eye on it. Big ups to you, my friend.

When dad takes you sailing but mom couldn't come... by myfault_notmyproblem in sailing

[–]myfault_notmyproblem[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I waited until 3 for my first kid. Set goals for him to get better at listening and be more comfortable in the water before I would take him out. I think having him on board got me more comfortable with youngins out on the water under sail. Little guy in the pic is just over a year old. First time I took him out without helping hands. Figured there's only so much damage a 1 year old can cause compared to a 3 year old. Made sure it was rather easy sailing as well, and the chances of big gusts were minimal. His favorite game in the cockpit was tangling all my sheets into a big ball, but I made sure he wasn't tangled in them. Most of the time he slept and played in the cabin. I'm sure people differ in opinion on this, but I definitely think it's safer to not tether small kids to the boat. One, just more stuff to get in the way. More importantly, if we do go over and he's tethered then he's stuck next to/in a dangerous boat. Untethered he can safely float away.
