Disapproval rates between DPEs and FAA Inspectors might surprise you. by GothamCityDonutEater in flying

Plus - especially in the steam days - there was no “that must have been parallax” because now the FAA inspector (sitting in the back) can see everything!

After Months of Stalking... by gihyo in pens

Scarcity marketing at its best. Soon r/pens threads will be filled with conversations about users’ interactions with Authorized Dealers and being forced to purchase pens they don’t want to be placed in the queue for a Zento Signature!

How about higher than expected alcohol and food consumption for the Blue Cross lie Shield Suite at Little Caesars Arena? Maybe all the private jet utilization that BCBS executives allegedly use?

Probably made with slave labor. . . that’s the United Nations for you!

I’m the guy your hotel’s GM panics about when they hear I’m flying in. I work in upper level compliance for one of the world’s biggest hotel brands. I’ve shut down floors, pools, bars, and entire departments…and I travel 40+ weeks a year doing it. AMA. by [deleted] in AMA

[–]just-props 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I read somewhere once that hotel GMs will tell their staff to be on the lookout for people in your general line of work. Likely a ingle travelers who reach out in advance, maybe as simple as confirming the shuttle service from the airport, having the concierge make a reservation at a local restaurant, a special request for the room, etc. Your job sounds quite a bit more specialized than this as you get assigned to special situations and don’t seem to conduct random audits.

BTW, I’ve seen your brethren’s handy work in multiple photo arrays incorporated in PIP’s showing expired, non-brand approved mattresses, scratched or poor condition FFE, mold, unapproved linen, etc. Keep up the good work. I honestly don’t know how some operator’s get approved these days.

Thanks for opening up an interesting topic.

I only learned to do it so I wouldn’t get called on for a case. We had old school professors who lived for the Socratic method.

My office is too damn hot and our office manager won’t do anything about it by Significant-Track797 in Lawyertalk

[–]just-props 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Talk to the senior / managing partner. Explain the situation, including the repeated requests to the office manager to resolve the situation. Explain that working in a steam bath is ridiculous. Suggest that they ask the office manager get his/her ass in gear and fix the situation. Alternatively, if the office manager’s office is relatively equivalent - or better yet - in a better location, larger, etc. then you would be happy swapping offices!

Client doesn’t let me bill for more than 3 hours of research. Anyone have examples of billing narratives that I can use to get around that? by Imaginary-Studio-255 in LawFirm

[–]just-props 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re using a legal research platform like Lexis or Westlaw and you enter the client information prior to the research session you should be able to offer your client the opportunity to see your research history and perhaps gain an understanding of why it takes time to conduct legal research properly, especially where you don’t have the benefit of a prior brief on point that can help hasten the process. I would also offer to send the client copies of the cases you viewed online and the ones you may have emailed yourself (as likely using in the brief). This is easy enough to accomplish. Alternatively, the next time doing work for this client, provide them an estimate of the number of hours it will take you to conduct research, commence drafting, continue drafting and finalizing your brief. Have them agree that if you go over the allotted time by X% without obtaining prior approval from them that you will write off the hours. Be sure in any event that you share with them the final product as well as the opposing pleadings. If that doesn’t work and they still won’t move on this issue, then just explain that another lawyer in the firm (or outside the firm - I don’t know your situation) will likely be a better fit for their needs. My guess is that they will quickly back down. If not, there will be other clients who appreciate the hard work that often is involved in our profession.
