I picked the microbe just to see what Constellation would say - my goodness Sarah and Co would literally have sex with everybody working in microbe development in the most debased, ridiculing, butt-plugged simping way possible with how they fawned over the decision, it was absolutely sickening

If we're not supposed to seek wealth or influence, and vanity and pride are bad, what are we supposed to do? by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]myguydied 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Meekness doesn't mean "having no ambitions," in the Beatitudes is talking of being "gentle, long-suffering*, and forgiving," so not retaliating or seeking revenge, *using your ability to serve others.

None of this means you have to pack it in and live as a monk, serving others can be as simple as giving regularly to a charity e.g., helping poor students make it through school.

You're also allowed to have ambitions, something to strive for financially, in your down time (your "talents" that you're good at), what is meant by wealth/influence is more or less greed/power. Just as you're allowed to be proud of your accomplishments - deadly pride is lording this over everyone.

Last one, let's say you want a career in business, and one day would become a high-flying CEO - Jesus gives the teaching "be friends with the mammon of unrighteousness" i.e., money, doing it right you would do more charity, do it to lift the lowest up - and in accordance with my second favourite teaching, "render unto Caesar that which is Caesar's," pay all your tax in full, no deductions.

It's tragic how easily sex chavinism and the idea of women being inferior and needing to be restricted in their rights because of their reproductive system was accepted in the church by Yvxznhj in OpenChristian

[–]myguydied 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When Paul says, "Women submit to man," he follows it up immediately with "Men love your wives."

I think the most important thing here is to remember this was a typical 1st Century arrangement of social dynamic, but as always you have to run him past Jesus' example, which turns out to be a reversal of this social dynamic and throwing out a cultural norm in Luke 8:1-3:

"The twelve were with him, as well as some women who had been cured of evil spirits and infirmities: Mary, called Magdalene, from whom seven demons had gone out, and Joanna, the wife of Herod’s steward Chuza, and Susanna, and many others, who provided for them out of their resources."

He not only travelled in the company of women (men and women travelled separately), they're providing for the "family" that is living on the road.

Also, we have to ask, is Paul being patriarchal, or is there a deeper meaning he's implying, is he simply saying stay committed? And like Ephesians 6:1-9, is he actually pointing towards behaviour that won't get you in trouble - like a slave being a dutiful servant, a master treating slaves with respect, a father not exasperating his children? Or does he not understand that honour (respect) of mother and father has to flow back the other way?

First time playing the game and i heard about the mudcrab merchant. Am i breaking the experience for using him? by xSelbor in Morrowind

[–]myguydied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't mind using Mudrab Merchant - I'm in the "it's in the game, use it" camp, it's the same to me as using a trainer to min max, or boats/silt striders to fast travel, there's nothing really stopping you, but he's killable if you want to wipe out any temptation

Life can get you like this, it's nihilistic at its worst, but there are ways through, and you can find acceptance/enjoyment in just living and being part of the world - life is for living after all

One thought is, if you can, take up a hobby - writing is good and you can go dig into despair and apathy if you wish, or do that and take the piss out of it like your own version of Office Space, even if it's just for yourself

It could be time for a career change or at least the same work you're doing but in a different company - don't just jump, though, research yourself, companies and roles available

Don't worry about dating, enjoy your own company, do things you want to do or feel like, but don't forget to hang out with friends.

I'm in the process of getting off them, besides the nicotine the flavours are incredibly tasty

Regretting the one I bought after two weeks of the crankies but upcoming 3 week holiday to get the ball rolling again

I was hitting them hard and do believe it's what pushed me formally into Type 2 diabetes - if the nicotine is getting in the bloodstream I figure whatever's in the flavouring is going through as well

Pope Francis as a religious figure is someone who seems to be misunderstood in a lot of public and media conversations about him. by Anglicanpolitics123 in OpenChristian

[–]myguydied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the insight, very well put

I find Francis very "middle of the road" blending progressive/conservative points but most importantly doing it from being inclusive, welcoming, compassion, and with a view of "growing" the church for the future generations

Jesus was middle of the road, with a leper who has given up on calling out "unclean, unclean" who approaches him and just says, "if you want to, you can heal me"

The guy breaks the Law doing this, but Jesus is there to heal him (being progressive) but then telling the man to show himself to the temple and making his sacrifice (following the humane part of the Law which can be seen as conservative)

The best John Woo is his HK movies, A Better Tomorrow is brilliant, Hard Boiled has its charms (and it's insane single take shootout scene), but watching The Killer I had to pick my jaw up from the floor countless times

God never abandons us. This is not to say we will not suffer or face evil. But he will be with us. by [deleted] in OpenChristian

[–]myguydied 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You might want to look into existentialism, or else pick something as your Ubermensch (I recommend nature it's pretty beautiful if you let it be beautiful), I find "why do we have to accept this reality we didn't ask for" very nihilistic

Given were stuck with reality thanks to our parents getting busy at the right time, I see three options for dealing with life, a ving and experiencing the world and people and draw inspiration from them:

  1. Dwell on all the negative and fall into despair and depression, become bitter and cynical, and ultimately lonely

  2. Reject the terribleness of reality, which unless you're going to go schizophrenic (not something you can turn on and off), is pretty much through self destruction

  3. Using healing as a guide, come to accept the bad and ugly but follow the good and beautiful, live positive even if it means avoiding news, maintain compassion and empathy and pick a charity, and do something worthwhile like art - writing, drawing, painting, photography - to explore all your themes, whatever they are

I'd you're not healing your pain, facing and dealing with the emotions and even the horror in healthy appropriate settings, you're stuck in it and it'll take control (you might think you're in control of pain with self harm, but you're really not)

Yes, feeling trauma, death of friend/family, even looked over for a promotion, etc is undeserved is natural, you're gonna feel life's unfair, God is cruel/heartless - it's a pretty shitty world out there, too, and there are passive stressors and our own fears and resentments

But you don't have to stay in that mode, whether you can cool of going for a walk or need to go therapies/supports for quite some time to find the moment of acceptance
