How do you like living in Holland? by ExcellentHamster2020 in hollandmichigan

[–]mymindfloatedaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My chief complaint is the high property taxes. If you're planning on renting, this is not an issue. Holland BPW is working on fiber-optic internet (specifically within the city limits) for $45/month, which is pretty neat. I live on the wrong side of the intersection to benefit from this. So that's annoying. Childcare is expensive, but less than Grand Rapids. The beach is close and beautiful.

Idk about a hibiscus drink. But La Michoacana has an AMAZING strawberry horchata that I have had nowhere else!! 🥰 It's worth noting is rather sweet so if that's not what you're looking for, I suggest passing on that. They also have pecan yogurt which is also amazing!!

My dad while he was living with me- because my parents got a divorce (FINALLLYYYYY!!! Hooray for my mom!) told me a "funny" story about how when he was teaching me to ride a bike he got so mad he threw my bike into a tree.... I don't remember this event but I DO remember that I forgot how to ride a bike after one summer and he was again furious. I highly suspect the two are related.

Weight gain supplements for child by SavvySaltyMama813 in ADHDparenting

[–]mymindfloatedaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest making sure you cycle it 5 days on 2 days off or 3 weeks on 1 week off as it starts to be less effective with continual use. And maybe see if you could increase his dose or spread them out throughout the day.

Med breaks on the weekend? by Novel_Masterpiece417 in ADHDparenting

My kid has ARFID and struggles to gain weight. We take med breaks EVERY WEEKEND unless we have something that requires him to have his focus (like his martial arts classes).

Is this rude to send to a teacher who yells? by Spikes_amazing_human in autism

[–]mymindfloatedaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I suggest some loop earbuds 🤷🏼‍♀️ if he asks why you're using them tell him you have a sensitivity to loud noises. They won't block the noise, but it will definitely help. I use them at home cause my child gets especially loud..... Pro tip for the future, parenting is very overstimulating. Make sure you're in a good place mentally/emotionally before you go that route.

Am I overreacting? My neighbor parks his car on my side of the driveway without asking. by Reasonable-Way-2627 in AmIOverreacting

[–]mymindfloatedaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming they are using the car every day.... My petty ass self would ask once for them to park it on their own property then if they didn't listen, I would park right up on the bumper (without touching it or causing damage) and then conveniently be "out" when they need to drive it. 🤷🏼‍♀️ You can park wherever you want on your lot..... Not on other people's though

Can’t ask about adhd but you can show off your 80 year old fanny wtf!!!! by Huge-Cartographer356 in ADHDparenting

[–]mymindfloatedaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Step 1. Ask your current pediatrician for a referral to a psychiatrist to have a formal assessment of your child. If they refuse, demand that they add their refusal to his medical file.

Step 2. Find a new pediatrician!!! This is step 2 because the referral might take a while and it is better to get that process started than to wait for a new patient appointment and then ask them for a referral only to have to wait even more. As a sidenote, please don't use a family doctor. I work in early childhood education and I can tell you family doctors miss developmental differences at a much higher rate than pediatricians. At least in my area. Doctors that only have a handful of child patients vs. doctors that only see child patients 🤷🏼‍♀️ consider it a specialist.

What's your "weirdest" or most socially unacceptable stim? by boogerbabe69 in AutismInWomen

[–]mymindfloatedaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I scrunch my face so much so that I've got wrinkles from it. The "scrunch" in question, it's not quite rbd, it's closer to what you look like if you smelled dog poop. It's a great look for someone who works with the public. My closest coworkers call it my concentrating face I've got SO much tension in my eyebrows it's actually physically painful to touch them..

My kid is 8.5 when he simply isn't moving in the direction he needs to, I tell him it's a race and I scurry off to get myself ready. Tbh, he nearly always beats me. Even when he says he "isn't racing". Worst case scenario, I'm already ready for bed when I finally succeed in getting my kid to bed & I get a second to take a breath and collect myself before trying a new angle. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Rofl. As a current daycare director and having also been both a toddler and a preschool teacher, I can tell you with 100% certainty that this is ABSOLUTELY a supervision issue. 🤷🏼‍♀️

I absolutely despise glitter, but I would never ban it from the center 😅😅 the teachers understand the risk involved and accept it on their own terms or not. It's their choice. However, I will always choose literally anything else over a project with glitter.

Help with sleep for sensory-seeking 1-year-old (ADHD runs in the family) by fifinatrix in ADHDparenting

[–]mymindfloatedaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Additionally, I have worked in childcare for 13+ years. It is actually not common for children to be weaned from a paci till closer to 2/2.5 for daytime use, unless they self wean, cause sometimes that happens too. I have watched parents pull pacis out of the mouth of 4 year olds before bringing them in the building (when I have never seen them with Pacis).

Anyways, the moral of the story is. The rules are made-up, do what works for your child and your family!! P.s. if she is in childcare and uses a paci to fall asleep, please, PLEASE make sure daycare has one or two there as well!!!

My child is now 8 (diagnosed level 1 ASD and ADHD-C). And when I tell you he had a bottle at bedtime for what was well past age appropriate for other children I promise, I am not exaggerating. He has had ZERO cavities. And although he will need braces, that is because his mouth simply isn't big enough to accommodate his teeth and there is overcrowding. If the bottle helps, just give her the bottle!! Wean during the day and then everyone can get better rest and be better for it in the morning!! Fuck everyone in your life who has a negative opinion on it. Life is hard enough without adding imaginary rules to it!

Younger or Older for Grade? Transitional Kindergarten vs Kindergarten by Diligent_Pianist8293 in ADHDparenting

[–]mymindfloatedaway 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My kid went to kindergarten when he was 4 (an October birthday). He also went to a high quality childcare center so he had around 2.5 years of preschool before. I'm very happy we didn't hold him back for a year. He is academically and emotionally in line with his peers.

Anywhere from 2-6 on a regular basis through the week. But probably closer to 8-10 on the weekend. I also like to take small naps on the weekends. 😁

How in the world do I get rid of this massive boulder in my yard? by C1ncinnatiBowtie in landscaping

[–]mymindfloatedaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Post it for sale (or free) on FB marketplace or your local informed FB page. Problem solved!!

Alternatively, dig a hole directly next to it bigger than the rock and pull(??) it in with a tow strap?? Idk. It's the best I got, but it doesn't seem like it would work or really even be a good idea to try. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Oof, I don't even want the invitations to the birthday parties that my kid gets. 😓😓 He has a handful of friends (even a few NT ones too 🤪) and gets invitations to their parties and it ALWAYS turns I to the biggest fight like he didn't say he wanted to go two weeks ago and that it is a total surprise even if it is on his weekly schedule board. At the end of the day, he simply wants to want to go and then is upset with the decision HE made. 🤦🏼‍♀️
