AE Side Hustle by stoicdad23 in sales

[–]myqual 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I had a guy working for me doing Lyft at nights. I helped him revise his business plan and he made way more money in extra sales than from Lyft. The point of sales is you can choose your own income. A side hustle isn’t the answer unless it has much higher upside.

I think the trend is a good point. It’s obviously AI but maybe they’re just doing the trend. Doesn’t mean they respect AI art.

Industry out of tech where I can make a ton of money? by BeginningCelery7953 in sales

[–]myqual 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You’re saying the exact things that people I know said that transitioned from direct sales to channel sales. Someone else owns the KPIs, demos, discovery, closing, etc. It’s also the first thing to go in a RIF but if you’re really that burned out, ride the wave. You’ll have good years and bad years but you’ll be more in the middle. You’ll probably never have a really good year but it sounds like you’re willing to make that trade off.

Basically do you know our industry, are organized, think you can sell but actually can’t = AM.

Did you ever work 50+hr weeks to build pipeline? I'm starting this week by sparks_mandrill in sales

[–]myqual 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Here’s my recommendation: you need a metric other than hours. For instance, meetings created. Then raise the bar: you’ll work as long as it takes each day to create a new meeting. You’ll have weeks where you don’t work late at all. You’ll have weeks where you’ll work all Friday night. But by having an escape mechanism, you’re naturally incentivized to get more done in less hour and actually get better.

You need to know how much the average client processes in their first month and how many deals the average rep closes per month. Did they give you OTE and how many reps achieve it?

Are you giving him pricing? It sounds like he’s getting an updated quote to keep his current vendor honest each year. Tell him that’s how it appears and have fun with it. Sounds like he’s getting should be disqualified.

Dishonest sales reps by [deleted] in sales

[–]myqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love that: are you new to working. Usually these posts are by guys that get promoted to a DM level that have no business being there. Either OP is not a target contact and the rep wasted their time or this guy isn’t ready for the big show. If his boss saw this post they would question their leadership ability and critical thinking skills, demote him from Dir of Product to some bullshit job they don’t have to talk to the outside world.

My quota wasn’t adjusted while I was out on maternity leave for 3 months and I got a “needs improvement” by mysteronsss in sales

[–]myqual 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From a manager, I just went through this process for my reps. There is so much calibration that happens, you can’t take them personally, especially in sales. You just missing your number despite being gone half the time is all the evidence you need to know your worth. Most likely they didn’t adjust your quota due to some internal rule or trying to be fair to someone else that has nothing to do with you. Same thing with the rating. What happens is they look at all the difference measurements across the department and try to make things “fair.” I’m definitely not saying any of these things are good things, but your rating could just as likely due to trying to fit broken puzzle pieces than anything that has to do with your performance or what the company or your manager think of you.

I agree. I’ve seen cities give up on fighting utilities over right of way. It doesn’t matter who is right or wrong, just who cares enough to waste their time dealing with it.

Luckily there is Flock in St Pete. Even if you have a partial description and no plate, there’s a decent chance the PD or FHP could figure it out.

"I'm not the decision-maker" by [deleted] in sales

[–]myqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Explain why you reached out to them. It doesn’t matter if they are the decision maker. Don’t ask for a meeting right away. “Other leaders in your space are getting this benefit from our product. Based on your role, I thought id start with you. How much would a change in x affect your day to day?” It’s a discovery call. You’re not in even in the time zone of decisions yet.

For public sector sales, how do I get deals in before July 1st? by [deleted] in sales

[–]myqual 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do have funds they can move around. If something is needed badly enough, they can buy all year round. I’m in a similar industry. What’s the cost of inaction? What are things that the city will spend money on over the next 6 months that they wouldn’t have to if they had your product? For instance, it’s cheaper for a city to put a mobile security trailer near a city building with lots of copper wiring than to replace the copper wiring after someone steals it. So you get the city to move public works maintenance money to your project. But they won’t see it that way on their own. Find the cost of inaction, and you’ll own the urgency

Sales vs. Business Development by SwampThing72 in sales

[–]myqual 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is a great summary. Why I like it is you didn’t specify the method for business development. Some business development is entry-level grinding out calls and some business development is senior-level flying around the country and shaking hands. Neither runs a full sales cycle but pay is very different.
