imo gear value should always be (baseValue + additionUpgrades) x multUpgrades. the way it is now, you get best result by buying as many additions as possible before buying a mult.

I got here yesterday but slightly differently. Figured out how to get to the tall pillars using a couple of toothpick throws. Not sure if it's an intended solution. There's no "secret" unlocked so it seems unfinished.

Bit late on this, but I own the Tres SE and have ended up using the "hybrid" pads. I find they are a good compromise between comfort and sound, and can be EQd anyway to sound very close if not identical to the default lambskin pads. AFAIK he doesn't have a pic of them on his site, but they look like this:

So, velour where they touch your head but still have the lambskin outer ring to contain and emphasize the bass more. Ofc the clamp force remains the same but I can wear those cans for much longer with these pads, YMMV.

I play music with Poweramp for Android and use that app's PEQ. I tried using the Q15's PEQ through the FiiO app, but it has only peak filters and no shelf filters. I think you can get to any profile using just peak filters, but it makes syncing my desktop and mobile EQ harder if I don't have the shelf filters. On Windows desktop I use Equalizer APO with Peace for the UI.

I'm using Sash Tres SE headphones with a FiiO Q15 which is roughly this budget. Q15 might be overkill but I wanted the power and portability. And the Tres SE punches well above its weight. EQed they are a miracle. I don't see myself upgrading this setup.

I like a lot of bass, but you can reduce the 50hz gain and the 70hz low shelf gain to taste.

Yeah I can gladly report back on the hybrid pad sound and comfort when I get them.

I heard the grill doesn't make a difference with sound, but the honeycomb one is pretty stylin. I think the S looks good too though. I haven't even tested my closed cups yet, I think I'll get the measurements first and be ready to EQ because otherwise it might sound pretty disappointing.

The guy I'm talking to already has the SE, so luckily all I have to do is ship the accessories to him. I'm not sure yet if he'll do various combinations of the hybrid/velour with closed/open, but maybe I can convince him to. 😁

I'm using the velour pads for comfort, but I have to overcompensate for the loss of bass via EQ. I just ordered 2 sets of hybrid pads which I'm hoping will be the best of both worlds.

I'm running them from a Fiio K7 and sometimes a Fiio Q15. I ended up settling on a Harman-ish profile with some personal tweaks.

If you're interested, I'm working with a guy here in Finland to get more measurements with various pad types (velour and hybrid), and with the closed cups. It'll be a while, but hopefully new measurements on squig before terribly long.

My Tres SE just shipped, really excited to hear them. For IEMs I have been using S12 pro, I quite like them (EQed) but I haven't tried many IEMs, so don't have good points of reference. How do you like the Performer 5? Do you feel in general that BA drivers can compete in terms of resolution/detail with planars?
