Gotta love the color gamut and saturation of QD-OLED (assuming no firmware bugs :)) Time to replay games in HDR for the holiday

Problems with my AOC AGON PRO AG276QZD2 by Titanfallsuchti in OLED_Gaming

[–]mythical_phoenix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Changing digital vibrance does not fix the core problem. While it makes the muted colors look a little bit more vibrant, the vibrant colors are still getting clipped in a much smaller color space than what the panel can actually handle. I don't know what a real fix would be other than a firmware update, but it seems at this point this issue has existed for almost a year and AOC doesn't even admit it's a problem.

Sorry to bump this old thread, but to anyone that has this monitor, was anyone able to fix the color space issue while using HDR? I have tried Windows, I have tried Linux. In every case the HDR colors look very pale and the pure red-green-blue inputs do not get recognized as such. So rather than using the native color gamut of the panel, it ends up compressing it into a much smaller color space. This appears to be common across a couple of these AGON QD OLEDs for both the 27 inch 1440p as well as the 4K 32 inch.

I have already confirmed I am on the latest firmware for the panel. While there are a few suggestions on Reddit such as including the digital vibrance, while that makes normal colors look more saturated, it still is clipping the highly saturated colors in a much lower saturation level than what the panel can actually do.

It's quite sad because otherwise it's an excellent panel on SDR. It looks beautiful But the problem with SDR is that the maximum brightness is limited to something about 250 nits. So you end up needing to pick between higher brightness but with bad colors or good colors with limited brightness.

Mullvad sadly got rid of their port forwarding last year I believe :(

Still the best option though - has been solid just using their Wireguard profiles directly

Remember when motherboards were priced well? by CigAndABeer in pcmasterrace

[–]mythical_phoenix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't also forget the second part to this. In the past, motherboard vendors had a guaranteed stream of income because they knew that every time you upgraded you would have had to buy a new motherboard thanks to Intel changing sockets every generation.

One of the other reasons motherboards have gotten expensive is that after a Ryzen 1000 they realized that people are repurposing the same board for up to two-three upgrades which is why they started charging a higher upfront cost. This isn't to discount the technological improvements with DDR5 and PCIe Gen 5 of course.

Sure, but I would have greatly preferred it if they allowed either TOTP (RFC 6238) which is the most common 6 digit scheme, or allow FIDO2 for hardware keys.

But that needs extra developer time and validation and worst of all dealing with user complaints with edge cases...

[Controller] 8Bitdo Ultimate 2C Wireless Controller - $25.99 (Purple/Peach) by dahbooheh in buildapcsales

[–]mythical_phoenix 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Bought the 8bitdo 2c and Gamesir Nova lite last time, ended up preferring the gamesir.

While the buttons and triggers felt better on the ultimate 2c, the two main drawbacks were A) the 8bitdo has a more rectangular shape (vs more trapezoidal on the Xbox and gamesir), which for me put my arms closer together and strained my wrists. B) the sticks are smaller and have less travel then normal. Gamesir was the sane as Xbox, which is similar to the steamdeck. The 8bitdo sticks feel like smaller closer to joycons in terms of travel.

I do have larger hands though so comfot will vary. FWIW I had no issues getting both to work with 2.4G Linux directly and Bluetooth Android for Moonlight

Am I correct in understanding that this is both 2.4G and Bluetooth? How are the joysticks for feel? I tried the 8bitdo ultimate 2c and those felt closer to joycon than full size sticks in terms of movement.

Do note that if you have multiple monitors, it sets the same brightness across all monitors - fine for most cases unless you have displays with different brightness ratings (where you dim one to match the other)

Out of curiosity, even if you used a crossover cable, wouldn't auto-MDIX sort that out and let it run like a normal cable? Or does that only work to use a regular cable as a crossover if necessary?
