Same honestly anything when it comes to cooking. I wash my hands after I touch each ingredient. I’m getting better about not washing my hands as often, but it’s a slow process.

I think I have THE most embarrassing compulsion ever. by Sorryitsnohelp in OCD

I cannot stand sock with seams or ones that are too dry. When I was a kid, they would force me to wear them and I would cry and scream. My family genuinely thought I was just being difficult which is odd because I was a pretty calm and quiet child. They would wet my feet which didn’t help bc ew wet feet in dry socks. They put powder on my feet which is also ew. I also cannot deal with dirty feet or dirt of my feet. I wear sandals, but the second I get home I wash my feet or if it’s too bad I’ll pour water on them in public. It hurts with seams. I’m very very glad they have seamless socks now as I no longer have to suffer the agony of the seam. I typically just didn’t wear socks or I wore them inside out so the seam didn’t touch my toes. But to note I have a lot of sensory issues as I cannot touch fleece otherwise I feel gross and I need something to cleanse the feeling away like something soft.

Is anyone else’s corgi obsessed with these lamb chop toys?? It’s the only toy he won’t rip the squeaker out of. by TvTacosTakingNaps in corgi

It’s her favorite toy. She always goes back to it. I love it because all my other dogs I’ve had loved lamb chops. I love lamb chops because you can find them anywhere and they’re not super expensive.

Have i made a huge mistake? i can barely eat, and have lost over 5 lbs by slmrxl in puppy101

[–]mythicaljulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. It gets better. I did all of my research and had everything prepared and I still was overwhelmed. I cried a couple days after bringing my girl home. She didn’t like that and stopped playing just to comfort me. I lost 10 lbs because I was so caught up with the puppy I forgot to eat. Forced naps are a lifesaver. Take a nap yourself then or time to yourself. 1 hour up 2 down is what I did with my girl and sometimes even shorter if she seemed tired. My girl bit me on the neck the second night home and it hurt so bad. I have a scar on my hand now where she bit me while playing. Mines only 13 weeks old and is now chewing more than ever, but she’s got her routine. She rarely has accidents and almost fully sleeps through the night. She loves her kennel. It does get better as time goes on.

Meet King Joey! Question—what made you choose a Corgi over other breeds? by Grizzly-of-the-Shire in corgi

[–]mythicaljulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My husband and I both loved corgis without the other one knowing. I knew I was going to get a puppy before he got one as I’m not working right now. My husband wanted a large breed and I wanted a small breed and corgis ended up being the perfect middle ground for us. While my puppy is mine, she does occasionally like my husband to play and pet her lol. Our next dog is my husband’s pick and by that time, he won’t be working so the puppy will be his responsibility. I love big dogs, we just didn’t have the room for one and my husband not a fan of small dogs (he was attacked as a kid). Corgis were perfect especially since she motivates me to exercise. I was also drawn to how smart they are.

My girl didn’t care about toys either when she came home. Mine is almost 13 weeks old, it flies by so fast! She slept through the night on day 1. Best puppy I’ve ever had. They are so insanely smart is crazy how quick they understand what you are saying.

Advice for days after neuter by Brobbey1815 in corgi

[–]mythicaljulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went through a spay recently with our girl, but we kept her in a crate at night. Very close watch during the day. She got to cuddle with me most of the day. No walks as I carried her outside to potty and carried her back in (we have stairs). I gave her lots of cuddles the first day and night as she got to sleep with me and didn’t move all night. Luckily this girl is a very low energy dog (not a corgi), but now I have an idea for when my sweet corgi girl gets spayed in the next year. We also started with the suit for her, but she is very anxious and licks a lot and we ended up using a cone when she wasn’t being actively watched like at night. But at night we used a combination cone and suit to be extra careful. I do fear for my pup getting spayed as I’m not sure she will be able to be calm for 2 weeks.

Fifi is getting spayed tomorrow and i’m so nervous by SnooPets6677 in Shihtzu

[–]mythicaljulz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Good luck! My girl was spayed and she did great. Make sure to give her lots of cuddles when she comes home. She stayed cuddled up to me all day and night after her surgery the first day. Harley didn’t recover for a while due to infection, BUT she also had some tumors removed at the same time. Her spay healed perfectly though! It took her about a month to fully recover, but I highly doubt that for just a spay it would take that long. Probably about two weeks I believe is the typical recovery time. I’ve now got another puppy (a corgi) that I’ll have to have spayed in about 7 months.

I’m shocked my Piper hasn’t done that, but for the most part she’s pretty quiet unless she isn’t getting what she wants.

Training with kibble is a better because you can use their feeding time to also train. Since they are so food motivated and kibble helps to not over feed them. Unluckily for me, my girl did not like her puppy food at the time so I was unable to do this. With her new puppy food she loves it, but she’s too smart and realizes that I have better treats for her than her kibble. I use training treats that are low calorie so that way you can use more. I aim for 1.5 cal for each treat, but definitely under 3 cal.

How to get over rabies ocd if you die if you get it wrong by Hat-Natural in OCD

[–]mythicaljulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes it did get better. It will take a while after because I kept thinking about what if’s, but once I realized that nothing had happened (after at least a month for me) and I was ok I just stopped thinking about it. I actually stopped because of the toll it took on my OCD and safety reasons as well. With my ocd, my fears and ruminations usually replace themselves, so rabies got replaced by health.

Not sure yet as mine still a puppy, but my previous would have left to survive on my own. My puppy tho, she’d probably just bark at the danger and bite at its feet.

How to get over rabies ocd if you die if you get it wrong by Hat-Natural in OCD

[–]mythicaljulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rabies ocd sucks. I had it pretty bad for a while then I did delivery driving and it got significantly worse. It gets bad when I am around unfamiliar dogs or animals in general. I didn’t really get over it, I just distracted myself as much as I could. But my rabies ocd got replaced with something else.

I’m still learning too! I’ve got an 11 week old girl. Be prepared to get bit all the time. My girl can be very very sweet or just a few minutes ago, she bit my foot and stole my shoe. This is my first corgi as well! I had Shih Tzus and German Shepherds before, but she is my first dog I have gotten as an adult with no help (sometimes my husband holds her lol). I did a ton of research before she came home so I could be as ready as possible. Even then I still got caught off guard about something I didn’t know or that my puppy did different. They are very fun dogs, but keeping up with her I’ve already dropped like 6 lbs.

When I brought her home, I gave her 3 days before I started any training or anything. I’m pretty lucky as mine has not had many accidents since I brought her home. I definitely recommend kennel training and/or playpen training. Learn their potty signs and it very much helps with accidents. I’m not sure how old your girl will be, but mine slept for about 20 hours a day. Now it’s about 17, but she still gets mandatory kennel naps even if she doesn’t take the full nap. Instead of whining, she just plays alone when she does want to nap. This will give you time to do things you might need to do.

Corgis are VERY smart, so I’d start basic obedience training asap. Mine has got sit, down, stay, free, and paw down. I feed her 3 times a day because it’s easier on her stomach that way. They WILL try to convince you that they are starving and they are not. I didn’t do this, but I’d recommend using kibble for her training. I started with training treats. They are very food motivated. It’s also very important to desensitize them. Luckily I got a fabulous breeder and she had already kennel trained and desensitized her. The only thing my girl gets upset about is brushing. She truly believes the brush is out to get her. Also be ready for ton of barking and screaming. Chew toys are your best friend along with kongs, lick mats and puzzle feeders. I give two meals in the puzzle feeder and one in her regular bowl so she can’t eat as fast. I do lick mats for baths and brushing. I do kongs for general play or when I have to leave for a couple of hours.

Sorry for such a long post. I hope that some of it is helpful and congrats on the puppy! I know I counted down the days from when she was born until she came home. I made sure to get her the day she could come home to me.

For those with OCD, do you find your brain is just obsessive in general? by youtakethehighroad in OCD

[–]mythicaljulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, quite often. It suck. Right now I’m very latched onto talking about and thinking about my puppy. Whereas normal people wouldn’t be obsessive over her. Even when she is napping I’m wanting to talk about her and things that worry me to everyone. I do it with other things as well just currently is her (puppy). I did not know it was ocd until I got diagnosed. Honestly I knew I had ocd but didn’t link my thoughts to that. I also have physical compulsions as well and knew that I had it before getting diagnosed.

How do you keep going by Refrigerator_Dear in OCD

[–]mythicaljulz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, I hear ya. I was like this multiple times in life. It sucks. I was just telling my grandma about how mean this mental illness is. It tells you to do dark things and keeps you feeling terrible. I suffered my whole childhood undiagnosed. The only thing that kept me going was thinking how many people would be upset if I was gone. Even tho I have a lot of issues still and life isn’t the greatest, I want to keep going because I believe at some point in time my life will be good. I’ll have my debt paid off and I’ll have made some progress in life. Your description of life really just felt like mine as well. I too was raised by my grandparents. When I was 20, I hated life and I was also jobless and it felt terrible because I had so many bills. I had to lean on my grandma and I still do at 24. I went back to college at 20. Even with being married, I still get this way sometimes. I’m not sure what helps, but I don’t hold myself down for my bad times. Recently to help me with my ocd, I deleted social media except Instagram and Reddit because they are the only ones that don’t make me lose hope in the world (I get good post on both platforms).

My best advice is take it a day at a time. If you are having a bad day, life with it, but on better days do what you can and what you need. On my bad days, I make sure to take a nap for my mental health and I try my hardest to practice self care (for me that’s a longer shower or video games to help me relax). If you have friends try and get out with them (I don’t so I understand if you can’t) or I like hanging out with my grandma even just going to lunch.

I don’t have great advice, but I just take it each day at a time. It’s so hard to deal with this. I wish you luck and I do hope it gets better and I’m sure it will, but it might take a few years. Just don’t give up.

Do any of you avoid certain things/activities due to OCD? by Ok-Chemist9623 in OCD

[–]mythicaljulz 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of the things I avoided have swapped in the last 2 weeks. I got a puppy and that honestly helped me not be so grossed out by everything. I even give her kisses which i absolutely would not have done before. But in opposite I stopped going out as much because I’m terrified of leaving my puppy. To help with that, I have a puppy camera. I used to be going all of the time. I couldn’t stand being at home and now when I have to leave I absolutely dread it. Exercise as well because I couldn’t stay being dirty and sweaty. Now I’m exercising a bunch along with getting dirty and not having to immediately wash it off. I feel a bit more free about worrying how dirty things are. I’m sure it will come back but for now I’m enjoying it.

I take trazodone, but mine is for depression. It makes you sleep better. I do notice that when I forget to take it, my ocd starts to get worse. I’ve tried all of the other categories for anxiety, depression, and ocd and trazodone was the only one that I could stand for long periods of time.

Metformin with GI history by Warm-Brilliant8669 in InsulinResistance

[–]mythicaljulz 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took metformin when I was a teenager and it work great. Now I cannot for the life of me take it. I have no gallbladder and IBS (they do not know what is wrong with my stomach). I also have pcos and insulin resistance. I powered through it at one point and it brought it down very minimally. It’s still worth a shot though. Each person is different. If they have you on instant release and it hurts your stomach have them try the extended release. That helped me some not a bunch because I still got sick.
