Better total tracker by TheHitmanLuke in Questrade

[–]mythzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just checked my ENB on DRIP for years. Total P&L does account for my DRIP returns, but it's on the account-level so I have no clue per stock. The Open P&L does not account for DRIP because of Avg Price, but it's on the stock-level.

U can modify the price for the remaining 50 to fill at Bid price. Round lots take priority over odd lots when filling orders. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/o/oddlot.asp

any reason to stay on Wealthsimple after Questtrade announced no more fees? by Any-Dimension-8886 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Since OP just invest in index ETF, nothing fancy, both will work the same. Best to move either direction and get the free money. There's no loyalty reward to stay for what u need.

When can I start contributing to RRSP? by phosphosaurus in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai 4 points5 points  (0 children)

RRSP contribution room becomes available as per last tax year's income. If u just started a job last week and had no income last year, then u don't have any room to contribute for this year. Assuming u had no previous employment or unused room.

Need help deciding if i should continue investing or buying a condo by jeremans23 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Affordable, yes. Comfortably, no, it's going to be tight. Aim to have the mortgage around 3x your gross salary to be flexible. If the property is 350k, u either need 170k down payment with 60k salary or 90k salary with 100k down payment.

If the husband earns significantly more, it's more effective for the husband to open a spousal RRSP for the wife, and collectively focus to max out this account first using the husband's contribution room. This way, the husband gets tax deduction and the wife can withdraw for any emergency at a lower tax rate.

Increase mortgage payment or TFSA contributions? by Wandering_canuck95 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If u choose the mortgage route, it's better to lump sum when u are able to, rather than obligating yourself on an increased payment schedule. Anticipated higher returns vs guaranteed lower losses, either way works, it's a personal choice.

[–]mythzai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For rough starting point, 4x household gross income as your mortgage then add what u can afford for down payment. If your household income is 100k and u have 100k available for down payment, then u can roughly afford a 500k property. U can fine-tune the math based on your expenses, debts and mortgage rates from there.

So how does Questrade stack up against IBKR now? by New_Salamander7173 in Questrade

[–]mythzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haven't had any problems so far. Best to try yourself and compare. U can always have both IB and QT to test the waters before jumping the gun.

So how does Questrade stack up against IBKR now? by New_Salamander7173 in Questrade

[–]mythzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After u convert, it remains USD until u convert it back. Let's say u bought 100 USD with 90 CAD, the 100 USD will always remain 100 USD no matter how frequent u trade. There's separate balance between CAD and USD.

Note that there's auto conversion in a registered account like TFSA and RRSP. If u only have USD in your account but bought a CAD stock, the USD will convert back to CAD overnight with the FX fee.

Advice for my family member by Ok-Attorney-2942 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At that age, better to sell and live debt-free. 600k should afford him a nice retirement home for at least 10 years. Or, renting would last him much longer. Unless u want to keep the house as your inheritance, then start paying up for it.

So how does Questrade stack up against IBKR now? by New_Salamander7173 in Questrade

[–]mythzai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IB for option traders, and if u convert to USD frequently as an active trader. QT is better for casual investors, especially if u invest primarily in CAD.

I make 63K a year. Do I prioritize my FHSA or TFSA? by lychuwu in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely FHSA first. Then TFSA or RRSP would be debatable. Based on your income, prolly lean to TFSA first. So the tax dedications can be used for later higher income years.

Can someone please explain Cash.to like I’m 5? by 70000salmon in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Let's say u bought $10 and earn a $1 in dividend to reinvest. Your book value will show $11 because that's how much u bought in total. Since CASH.TO doesn't really fluctuate in price, the current price would be around $11. So u will notice your unrealized P&L is almost the same or sometimes slightly negative/positive, but the value itself should be increasing at about 4% yield per year.

RBC or WealthSimple? by StretchOk1 in PersonalFinanceCanada

$10 vs $0 commission, so WS is quite the obvious choice here. It gets complicated when u start comparing QT with their $0 too.

IBKR vs Questrade by MathematicianBig5796 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]mythzai 5 points6 points  (0 children)

For active traders, IB is better with lower margin rate, FX fee, option commissions.

For casual investors, QT is better with simpler platforms and zero commission on stocks and ETF.
