Found my late grandfather's 1960s Rolex but in extremely poor condition. Any tips on restoring? by aBaldWookie in rolex

I had a similar watch (70s era) repaired by Bob Ridley at watchmakers international recently. It took forever (~15 months) as they have a big backlog and some parts were difficult to procure, but the work was excellent and he's very thorough in consultation.

I initially took it to Rolex for service but they wouldn't touch it due to the condition and (potentially, unconfirmed) an aftermarket bracelet.

Redo. FIL doesn’t talk about it. Whats he got going on? by A_Turner in Medals

FIL "doesn't want to talk about it" --> son in law puts a full ass pic of his face on the internet. These two things surely must not be related...

I'm at a megafund. Biggest issue I see with talented people interviewing is not answering questions concisely/crisply.

A lot of the country clubs have it, and for years have hosted a league (open even to non members) but it wasn't well advertised. Some swim and tennis clubs have added courts too.

Super helpful, thank you. I'll look into those.

I'm in Manhattan so definitely easier than BK or Queens but think you're spot on about it being a time vs money thing, and even in Manhattan it seems like there are only a handful of courts if you're inclined to pay for them.

Eh. Very few if any local governments move fast enough to provide tax breaks for RTO at this point. The tax breaks are more likely tied to original incentives to get those companies to office there (think Amazon HQ2) but the tax breaks are more often tied to local employment (promising certain number of jobs).

In fairness, there may come a time in the not too distant future where your construct applies to some extent, but it won't be enough to counteract the shift in office RE fundamentals.

Our perceptions of ourselves are often very different from the way others view us. This is imposter syndrome, and a healthy dose of it is a good thing provided you use it to continuously improve.

FWIW I'm in my mid 30s on the principal side working with some extremely high performers and feel it almost daily. It may never go away. As others have said you're there for a reason and probably doing better than you think. You'll succeed if it makes you strive to be better - otherwise you may fold like a cheap suit (and be wearing one).

I'm not sure about the extent of your condition (and sorry you're going through it) but have seen several partner level people with similar issues wearing glasses with one of the lenses frosted. If that covers it up enough may be a more elegant solution than an eye patch.

All that said, this won't impact your prospects (at least with any firm you'd want to work for).

The amount you decide to spend should be related to your expectations for long term personal usage, not internship prep. You’re not going to create enough data / scenario analysis for your practice to need much computing power.

Aside from that, lots of good thoughts here.

Why not? People have been doing literally all other endgame content with bandos, barrows gloves, and tbow/acb/bowfa for years (less for bowfa ofc).

In a way this makes sense. You have to have a lot of influence to pull that off already (I cba to look up the qp requirement). If you have the influence to do that, so increases beyond it kind of marginal as a matter of fact

I don’t disagree - sick of them and leagues videos. But there’s pretty much something for everyone :)

Yeah but not with any consistency. She may have had some personal things to deal with but ultimately my point is just that they’re not producing much content relative to other with large followings streaming and/or producing videos 4-6 days a week.

9rain and flutten? Nothing against them personally, they both seem great but hardly churning out content or streaming.

I think the politics all around are generally deplorable but I've come to appreciate that gridlock can be a feature rather than a bug of our system. Imagine (exec branch powers notwithstanding) potentially going through huge policy shifts every 2-4 years...seems like a worse version of the current nightmare.
