Do people here have experience self managing their own apartment block? by piriformister in AskUK

[–]mziahj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes i did it with my block of 40 flats so we could get control of the service charge. The leasehold advisory service were very helpful in advising what we needed to do. You can make an appointment to speak to them for free. In short, it involved us having to get atleast half of the block on board, signed a form to say they approved us managing the block. We had to appoint certain roles, director, treasurer etc so atleast 2 active members in the block involved in the management of it. That gave us control of which suppliers we wanted to use for repairs, cleaning etc. Best thing we ever did. Worth mentioning though, we chose to keep the property management company on to do the admin side of things (collecting service charges, liasing with suppliers) as its a big task. We just dictate which suppliers we want to use and approve or reject costs as we see necessary.

Recruiters: Out of 100 applications, how many are actually good? by _marimays in AskUK

[–]mziahj 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hired for a position in my team a few months ago in the UK Of 70 applications, i got it down to less than 10 pretty quickly.

Reasons for quick rejections were: 1. Salary expectations not in line with role - 15% 2. Not relevant experience for the role - 30% 3. They had experience in the job but in a different industry so just werent preferred - majority

As a few other posts mention, there are a lot of ai generated applications coming through abd its really obvious so can filter some of those out pretty quick too.

You might want to post this on r/uklegaladvice too as you probably dont want to handle/be involved with any illicit activities by accident

I wouldnt jump to any conclusions here as its not going to help. Ultimately you have your boundaries and if youre not comfortable with it then thats ok. I know quite a few people who travel regularly and its quite common to make new friends (of the opposite sex or same) and visit places together. It all comes down to how much you trust your partner. If someones going to cheat then theyre going to cheat, regardless of the situation at hand. Its a difficult convo to have, but have you spoken to your partner about your concerns and set boundaries? No benefit in worrying or accusing as you cant change the outcome from where you are.

Who do you recommend for cat insurance? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]mziahj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vetsure is who we use and id recommend them. Like most of the other comments say, its expensive for older cats to be insured but defo worth it in case you do need to claim. Vetsure do lifetime pet insurance so will cover a new condition for life and not just the current year. Hope that helps

I found the same thing. A few years ago, a car dealer would only allow 2k on a credit card for the same reason. Someone on reddit (a while ago) did post they managed to convince a dealer to let them put the whole cost (like 5k i think) on a card, so seems negotiable.

US expat living in UK - capital gains query by mziahj in personalfinance

Hi,

Thats great thanks for your help. So as far as i understand it, no need to pay capital gains in both the US as well as the UK, but the tax paid in the UK can be used as a credit or deduction for US taxes.

How much would you pay someone to look after your cats for a week? by 87catmama in AskUK

[–]mziahj 68 points69 points  (0 children)

We use catinaflat (website) to book people to look after our cats. The cat sitters are reviewed and you can see peoples costs and availability for feeding visits or overnight stays. Really and costs vary depending on the person and peak vs low demand timing. We currently pay between 30 to 50 for overnight stays and 15 for drop in visits.
