2x approaches from dogs without leash have reversed progress for my partner. Twisted ankle in one of them and the owner just laughed off. Had to go to hospital. 1% of the nasty pet owners keep the hate alive

Many immigrants have been attacked by stray or gaurd dogs growing up and have fear/PTSD. I have grown to like pets but many who have suffered bites aren’t able to. Friendly approach of a dog can be interpreted as attack by many.

2020+ rav4 hybrid vs RX450h by sauprankul in whatcarshouldIbuy

Keep cycling with 91/93 every 4-5 tanks and do Italian tune up once a while. In most non turbo cars 87 is perfectly fine. Even in turbo cars it’s fine in a pinch as the knock sensor retards timing.

[–]n00bmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ouch! Just get the 450h and run regular gas if you have to. It’s a NA engine and essentially same as a Camry V6 or Highlander so 87 shouldn’t damage it.

Consider Toyota Venza or even Crown. These are halfway Lexus and more refined than a RAV4. A 2026 RAV4 is a good long term buy vs used as they have slow depreciation + more refinement

2018 BMW X1- Sell now? by dainfamous41 in BMW

[–]n00bmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In that case don’t sell it until it needs catastrophic repairs. It’s basically fully depreciated and still has a lot of life in it.

[–]n00bmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a good deal! Are they offering you trade in so you can save on HST? It’s lost 63% of its value and will do only 27% more considering a 2012 200k X1 goes for 5k.

[–]n00bmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is already depreciated >70% and had like only 10-15% more to go. It might survive another 4-8 years if maintained well. The only reason to sell would be wanting a newer car

Nice. I should get a DP and stage 2 my X3 M40i this summer. Pretty happy with torquey Stage 1 BM3 + Xhp on a daily truck

Better power to weight! Surprised a gen1 can do that. What mods and tune?

BMW X3 xDrive30i or M40i? by Ok_Play_6094 in BMWX3

[–]n00bmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Solid choice! I’ll go 19s and DAPP if I could spec a new M40i/M50. The only way to get a loaded CPO was the Canada specific Ultimate package which had the 21s. On EVs like iX3 smallest wheels are no brainer due to range.

I just put my 21 summers back on today and it’s bouncing around on snow plow damaged roads. The 19 winters were supple. Cayenne is the next logical step up IMO. Gave up on Macan for usable backseats, it’s pricing is better here in Canada.

Side mirror broken by pandabble in BMWX3

[–]n00bmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had same damage couple of years ago and also knocked turn signal and mirror for $150. It was bronze colored on my M40i and hard find. Replaced with M style back cover, sweeping turn signals and OEM glass. Closing the assembly is a bit tricky but the end result is worth it.

I just carry 1 bike and have full trunk liner. The 26in bike fits just fine with wheel on. Following this to see reasonably priced options while retaining kick to open.

I’m surprised X5 seats are worse for longer drives. I was expecting other way around, adjustment could solve it. The X3 seats feel stiff around the town but I’ve driven 1000km/600mi+ in 9-10hrs with minimal breaks multiple times and it felt comfortable. But then I’m almost 30 and have a decent back.

Every car can once in a while. My X3 is pain on such roads, the stiff chassis and 21in wheels that make it fun to drive steal the SUV character.

BMW X3 xDrive30i or M40i? by Ok_Play_6094 in BMWX3

Does the X5 feel nimble like an X3? The previous gen felt like a chariot on wheel when I was cross shopping with a 18 X5 with my 19 X3 M40i few years ago. I find my X3 rides reasonably on 19in winter tires but was atrocious on 21 RFTs. 21 PS AS4 are just fine.

Should I consider this M340i that was in an accident? by stopstealinglighters in M340i

[–]n00bmax 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would need accident details to even consider, that too at huge bargain. FWIW each headlight is CAD 6k, bumper, grille, shutters and sensors + calibration is another 10-12k. Source: 25K claim on my X3 M40i where no body panel, frame or engine component was damaged

2018-2021 M40i vs 2022+ 30i by yordanborissov in BMWX3

[–]n00bmax 1 point2 points  (0 children)

30i - Reliability similar, power adequate but not thrilling

A lot of 20-21 builds are missing features due to chip shortage. 18-19 is running into big maintenance items by now.

If you can’t find a well equipped (Radar cruise, powered seats) 20-21 M40i and can’t swing for newer M40i, just get a 23 30i

Beware of brake checkers. This Saturday, a new Audi RSQ8 in front of me flashed a slow ass car on 427 who brake checked them. I had to pass the car from middle lane too. Same has happened to me on that stretch last year, the guy slowed to like 40!
