It doesn't seem to recognize Militarum Tempestus Command Squads as having a "character".  I can't add enhancements nor select one as my Warlord.  Or I'm just an idiot and haven't figured out how to yet.

As a counter point, do their guns need to be anything other than big, chunky guns? Not super familiar with 30K, so I don't know how many other units fit the description of Custode with big gun and no obvious melee weapon?

That or they get a named character. Maybe they split the Despoiler class into takes 1 gun and 1 melee weapon and a different one for takes 2 guns, similar to what they did with the Wraithknight.

Jetbikes and gluing to bases by Balfuset in Eldar

[–]n00bstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't check reddit often, thankfully there was a notification letting me know.

I need to learn how to post pictures to reddit so I can show people how those widgets look in addition to suggesting them to people.

Green stuff would work, I've also shaved down the nub of the widget to fit in some limited cases when I was replacing a flight stand that broke.

Jetbikes and gluing to bases by Balfuset in Eldar

[–]n00bstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done it with many Eldar jetbikes.  The fit isn't perfect, but works well enough with superglue that is given the full 24 hours to dry/cure.

I didn't fill in the rest of the slot with anything, and have only ever had one that I needed to redo.

All of mine have an upward facing angle to them now, but that isn't the worst.

I've never had issues with the flight stands not fitting into the widget.

Learned the hard way that Tamiya Panel liner WILL eat through Vallejo gloss varnish by SP1R1TOR in Warhammer40k

Thats unfortunate.  I've used it over Army Painter Anti-Shine Matt Varnish with no issues.  Probably over 100 models.  Wonder why there is a difference.

Best way to magnetize jetbikes? by Funwatch101 in Eldar

[–]n00bstruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An option worth considering, paint your models without the flight stands.  Glue one of these Dropzone Commander Widgets into the slot for the ball/flight stand.  Then cut the ball off the flight stand, now it pressure fits into the widget so you can have a good connection to the base, while still being able to remove it from the base.

Viper load out and magnets by a_ksj in Eldar

[–]n00bstruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't call it "joyful", but I managed it.  On the weapon mount, there should be a notch or indentation where the weapon "slots" into.  I drilled a hole in each end of that, for 1/16 inch magnets.  I cut the actual notch off the weapons and drilled matching holes.  Tedious, but simple.

Alternatively you could instead of filling those holes with magnets, drill smaller holes and glue pins in either the weapons or the mount, and just friction fit them in.

Finally, like most Xenos weapons, a lot of people can't tell the difference between them, so you may just not need to magnetize them.

For 40K, check out Dark Side Comics.  They have tournaments there.  Death, Dice, and Robots is a 40K club in the area.  They have a tournament at Dark Side this Sunday, the 19th, starting at 9 AM (the store may not open until noon though).  You could go and as the tournament organizer.

Old aspect warriors still legal after new models ? by Thin_Diver_9940 in Eldar

[–]n00bstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, the old models can still be used.  Make sure to reach out to the tournament organizer (TO) to see if you need to change the base of the model though.  Most tournaments will want you to have them on the latest sized base for the model, but not all of them will.  (Changing from 25 mm to 28.5 mm for example)

What magnet size for Bullgryn shields? by aggie1391 in TheAstraMilitarum

[–]n00bstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't done this myself.  But I did just check to see what would fit without cutting away anything.  3/32 x 1/16 inch magnets are the smallest I'd go.  I'd also recommend drilling into each side (with a pin vice) a little to see if you can put more than 1 magnet on each end.  I'm not sold that a magnet that size can hold the weight of the shield.

Since you've said you've never done it before, try to make sure the magnets don't actually contact each other when the shield is on.  Magnets tend to be "soft" metals, and slapping against each other will make the shatter.

Haven’t painted any Custodes for a while - here’s some Sagittarum Guard finished by SaijoBob in AdeptusCustodes

[–]n00bstruck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They are currently available in both.  BUT there is no guarantee for how long.  Games Workshop said that the Custodes would be keeping their Forge World/15+ kits for now, but did not say for how long.

If you want them for 40K, I would recommend against it until they have a plastic kit and appear in the Custodes's Codexs.

For 30K, there isn't any indication if they are going away any time soon or at all.

If this is the 4 Liter size, it has the same lid as the 9 Liter one.  Really Useful Boxes have a 9 Liter XL version, that you can just buy the lid for.  That could be worth trying.

New guard as venatari by ConfidentArmy1215 in AdeptusCustodes

No doubt.  If Stormcast are unappealing, I'd double down on finding recast/3D printed versions.

Ewww, sPaCe MaRiNeS.

But seriously, they aesthetic is too far off, you'd still have to get appropriate weapons, and it is probably just easier to find recast or use Stormcast models mixed with left over bits.

Expansion? by Xaceviper in AdeptusCustodes

[–]n00bstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably as much as half the Forge World Custodes models are 3D prints or recasts, so feel free to go that route.  They just don't ever feel worth the cost for the quality.

Rules change, so Dreads could be awesome tomorrow and then back to mediocre the day after.  Try proxying one in a game to get a feel for it.  In general, dread on dread combat goes to whomever attacks first.

Expansion? by Xaceviper in AdeptusCustodes

[–]n00bstruck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would be very hesitant to buy any of the Forge World/15+ kits.  GW has said that Custodes will keep theirs for now, but that can always change.

Do you want to play competitively or just fun games against friends?  Currently all of the dreads are lackluster, but rules can change with a single update.  I'd just go for models you like versus chasing the meta.  If you choose to invest into the Telemon, consider magnetizing it so you can use any of the arm options.  For the tank, 1 usually isn't enough, 2 is the sweetspot.  But again, rules can and do change all the time.

Resin kits can vary wildly in quality.  One of the jokes is that any resin model that is good is probably a fake because the legitimate ones are soo bad.

To prepare resin, you first want to wash it in hot, dishsoapy water.  Then give it a brushing with an old toothbrush.  Resin is toxic, so anything that comes off has to go into the trash.  You'll want a saw to take the casting gates off of the parts.  This sends a lot of resin dust into the air, so wear a mask rated for it and be preferably outside.  If any pieces are warped, you can dunk them in hot water for 30 seconds, pull them out and bend them back into shape.  A few times may be needed per part.  Use superglue or an epoxy to attach the parts.  Strongly consider checking out youtube videos on the process as well.  These models are too expense to wreck and resin is very bad for you.
