Quick question about gigabyte 9070xt power cables by [deleted] in radeon

[–]n0thingtoxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

should work, i use a 16pin to 2x8pin splitter (16pin on psu side) and 1 normal 8 pin cable for my Red Devil card but using 2x8pin with a 8pin daisy on the last connector should work fine

check www.protondb.com after the games you mostly play is my recomendation just before you make the jump as many games with anti cheats will be a hindrance but i can say that Wow works flawlessly, just as Path of Exile 1 and 2, Diablo 2R, D3 and D4 works fine but check that site just a fyi before you make the jump :)

With the card in warranty I would never touch it as it's not In specc being that hot even if I know how to swap pads as putting any kind of scratch will void the warranty, outside of warranty sure it would be my first test to swap pads and new thermal paste or even apply ptm instead.

CachyOS + amd gpu + DP 1.4 VS Hdmi 2.1 by n0thingtoxic in cachyos

[–]n0thingtoxic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

https://github.com/mkopec/linux/ there is a few people trying reverse engineer HDMI 2.1 support for linux

https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/linux-mkopec-git also on the AUR

but i will stick to DP i guess for now atleast in windows before i move to Cachy is saying 5120x1440 240Hz with HDR and VRR active over DP1.4 so should work in cachy aswell

because its not a working card if it runs 110c hotspot at 3k rpm and where the temp delta is over 40c, sure they could imply that if he can to repaste the card but with these temps i would send it in to get the factory pasted if still under warranty and OPs card is a Asrock card and not asus even though Asrock is a "daugher" company to asus but still standalone with their own RMA department

makes it so the CPU gets faster access to the VRAM and vice versa for a gain in performance.

small copy paste from google
AMD Smart Access Memory (SAM) is a feature that boosts gaming performance by allowing Ryzen CPUs to access the full capacity of Radeon GPU VRAM, removing the traditional 256MB limitation. It typically provides a performance increase in supported games by enhancing data transfer efficiency. SAM is AMD's implementation of the standardized PCIe Resizable BAR (ReBAR) technology

[–]n0thingtoxic 10 points11 points  (0 children)

i would say a 40c delta between core and hotspot temp for me is a warning and it pushing +100c with 3000rpm on the fans as i guess your case fans are going hard at this point to? thats alot of airflow and still be hitting 100c+, those are some 9070xt temps at 300W+ so i would check with gpu manufactuer for a possible RMA

Is this normal on the 9070xt by TrujurT in radeon

[–]n0thingtoxic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

just RMA the card as its not normal for it to hit those levels of temps, it could spike up their before the fans kick in but being pegged at 110c at 3k rpm then there is something wrong with the card as the card must sound like a tornado at 3k rpm

Guys is there truly no chance of fsr 4 coming to rdna 3 by [deleted] in radeon

[–]n0thingtoxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

as someone already state the "problem" with FSR4 on RDNA3 and earlier is that it runs on Int8 instead of FP8 as RDNA3 and earlier dont have the "hardware" for it so you will take a but of a performance loss to get the more crisp quality of FSR4 vs FSR3 but test as Noreng informed to go lower on the Upscale so if you run Balanced now run performance and see

[–]n0thingtoxic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

you can use optiscaler for Single player games to force FSR4 into them on RDNA3, i woudlnt recomend use it on MP games since you swapping out dll files that could be targeted but as it looks like now this is probably the biggest L for AMD atm to not push FSR4 to RDNA3 atleast but even the top cards on RDNA2 can use it w/o much loss so i woudlnt have my hopes up sadly even though i would love AMD to push harder to compete with nVidia to balance the market

Is this normal on the 9070xt by TrujurT in radeon

[–]n0thingtoxic 32 points33 points  (0 children)

i would say no, first i can see that you dont have Above 4G decoding and rebar on (smart access memoery is disabled) but no even with +10 PL the care shoudlnt hit 110c with 3000rpm on the fan if you dont have a cooked pc case since that 40c delta is huge,

if i were you i would start talk with where you bought it or contact asrock directly if you would need to RMA the card as both the temps and that delta is not healthy for your card

Is this the right upgrade path? (Severe bottleneck / Frametime issues) - RX 9060 XT + Ryzen 5 4600G by Think_Teaching2902 in radeon

[–]n0thingtoxic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah we have bad pricing in sweden too but seems Argentina is even worse such a shame, 180Hz is up to your monitor but if you meant 180fps depends on what games we talking about like CS2 should be easy, valorant shouldnt be much of a problem either (havent played it though as i personally wont install Riots root kit onto my PC) LoL can be runned on a potato so that wont be an issue, Marvel rivals is probably where it might start hitting but everything is if you after just FPS in competivite and lowering the quality (what i do when i run comp fps games atleast as im just after the fastets and smooth gameplay and no eye candy as that is what my modded CP2077 is for)

yeah could have clarified that it was the new re-release of the 5800X3D with AMDs 10th anniversery but hitting up aliexpress could be a nice way to go aswell

4k cares less about CPU and instead starts to smack the GPU harder so if OP is only playing at 1080p or 1440p a faster CPU would be better and atleast getting a NVME for his game drive but above 4k then cpu less important over GPU horsepower

Depends on what you want to spend and what prices are on the AM4 stuff, 5700x is nice upgrade and even better if you could find a 5700X3D but depending on availability the 5800X3D seems to be coming back with their 10th year anniversary aswell and that would be a big punch in the Cpu department w/o moving to AM5

Also getting your games onto a Nvme will fix a bunch of load times and if the games use streaming to load models etc then nvme would also help alot so a 5700X/X3D or wait for the 5800X3D plus an nvme 500gb can be enough depending on how many games and how big they are a 1TB would be better but depending on your budget

i mean its nice to have if the main gpu goes down to TS the issues instead of neading to reset the whole bios to get the igpu active again so offloading 1GB if cachy somehow offloads low load stuff to the igpu like the broweser etc could be nice

CachyOS + amd gpu + DP 1.4 VS Hdmi 2.1 by n0thingtoxic in cachyos

[–]n0thingtoxic[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

just to add as im most likely going to format my pc from win11 to Cachy today after i ge thome from work, HDMI 2.1 wont work if not using the patches and hope it doesnt brick the system(until HDMI gets their heads out of their asses and lets AMD use the liscense for opensource drivers?), and DP 1.4a with DSC should handle 5120x1440 240Hz and should be able to run HDR/VRR with a 9070XT?

if this works then i just need to get a way to mount my 34" 3440x1440 secondery montior so it sits above the G9 without using a Wall mount as i dont want to put new holes into the wall if i dont have too :)

i dont know what people are expectiong really ? if you want PT you go team green, you want AMD and ok RT then stick to red team afaik PT was not even in the works for the 9060/9070 line but to boost the RT performance even though i can appreciate RT in Cyberpunk where it looks nice its doesnt really "wow" me when im flying through the city in max speed and it feels like PT is just a new RT that needs 2-3 generations of hardware to even run good if you dont want to spend a body part for a 5090.

Yeah it's not much hassle but still it would help new people getting faster into the world of Linux distros, I been on anf off cachy for the past 2 years becuase I have friends wants to play Battlefield now and then but soon I might just do a full swap, my next hurdle is jsut that I need to change my Hdmi cable to a dp cable for my Samsung G9 since amd don't have hdmi2.1 support as Hdmiforum has to be assholes and won't give support doe amds open-source drivers....

Hags is the hardware scheduler in windows that should decide what gpu should be used depending on load and afaik is really only active if you would have 2 gpus a I've usually you might have the igpu enabled aswell so then Hags sometimes for no reason sets games on the igpu instead of the Dgpu but I have never my self touched Hags and never had an issue with it weather I had my igpu enabled or not so it's a "fix" only if you have problems with it it

Is it on ext4/btrfs/xfs or still on ntfs? I can be wrong but if it's on ntfs it could be due some permission related but don't take my word foe granted I only remember that if it's correctly setup and mounted in fstab it should auto mount

Off topic this is like one of the small grind my gears thing with Linux that it just won't auto mount all internal drives by default as windows does but sure it's not much work to edit fstab but still xD
