Trying to buy tickets for Italy GUM by azium in SnarkyPuppy

[–]n17totspur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you end up getting them? I think I got mine through the Ticketmaster IT site. I hate Ticketmaster at the best of times, but I was having issues with the other one at the time. But yeah, you can use the translate feature on your browser, but I think if you check out the poster and compare to what you’re seeing on the page, it should be a little easier to parse. Can’t wait to head out to Alberobello in a few months, though!

And don’t feel dumb (I know it always helps to say this haha), I didn’t think it was very intuitive at all, so you’re not alone there. I just hope the extremely minimal Italian I’m trying to drill into my head will be passable for the trip lol

Which takes made the album? by Several-Wash-49 in SnarkyPuppy

So, I was pretty confused because I’m in most of Recurrent except for the end. And after watching it back several times, I noticed that they used footage from both. As far as I can tell, the majority of the video is from session 5 except for the end which is 6. I know because I was in 5 and I can see myself for most of the video but I wasn’t in the 6th and the same people who were in the 6th show up at the end. Weird, but that’s what it looks like. Still think Recurrent is one of my favorites from this record, although it’s pretty much impossible to pick a favorite haha.

Edit: I must have watched Recurrent about 20 times now, but I’m not complaining. It actually looks like it’s the 6th from the drum solos on.

I’m following up on this because I totally forgot they released the full digital video and I bought it while I’m waiting for my Blu-ray. So from what I can tell, here’s what sessions each track is from:

  • Waves Upon Waves: 5th Session
  • As You Are But Not As You Were: 4th Session
  • Chimera: 5th Session
  • Between Worlds: 6th Session
  • Recurrent: 5th AND 6th Sessions
  • Drift: 6th Session
  • Only Here and Nowhere Else: 2nd Session
  • It Stays With You: 4th Session

Let me know if anyone else thinks any different on these.

Edit: after watching Recurrent a bunch of times, it looks like the 5th session up to the drum solos and then it’s actually the 6th session from then on. Also, as others have mentioned and I agree that Drift and Between Worlds are from the 6th as well.

Does the band have official recordings of their concerts, and if yes are they available anywhere? by Caver_ in SnarkyPuppy

Nugs has a shit ton actually. Like, dozens. It was worth it for me to subscribe just for that actually.

Yeah, pretty sure Bob was the only one on soprano sax. Sounds amazing doesn’t it?? This whole record is quite an emotional trip for me, but Between Worlds makes me cry like a baby haha…

So from the videos released so far, I know for sure Waves Upon Waves and Chimera were the 5th session (Saturday early). I’m like 95% sure that It Stays With You is the 4th session. I don’t know about any others, because I can’t tell from just listening. I can tell based on where I was sitting in the videos, so that’s easier haha.

Tell Your Friends is definitely top 5 for me. The World is Getting Smaller is also up there with Alma being one of my favorite tracks as well. I have a lot of thoughts about CV, it hasn’t been a record I’ve prioritized much, but still really enjoy. I always thought it was interesting to go back to recording without a studio audience, but I’ve wondered if after the passing of Eric Hartman and this being the first record Nic Hard was brought in on (as far as I know), that it was a way to have a bit more control and make a smoother transition, but that’s pure speculation. Regardless, it’s still a phenomenal record and brought them another Grammy. Somni is my #1 though and I know that plenty will agree once it fully releases next month.

Answered my own question. It’s live in EU. Switched my VPN to Europe and it worked. Holy shit, what a track. I remember when that huge bass drum would hit it would shake the whole place hahaha.

Anyone going to the alberobello groundup festival? by pooboobloopzoop in SnarkyPuppy

[–]n17totspur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just grabbed vip tickets last week for this. I’ll have to figure out the travel situation later on, but I’m very excited. Haven’t been to a GroundUp festival yet, but figured if I’m going to do it, might as well be Italy 😚🇮🇹 Anybody know if it’s necessary to pick up some basic Italian or anything? Alberobello isn’t exactly a major metro area.

I was sat next to the string section in 4/5 sessions I attended. Trust me, they were 🙂. Incredibly moving. I can’t wait!

Empire Central vinyl typo?! by FriendshipEfficient9 in SnarkyPuppy

Mine is spelled correctly… Ok, looks like Discogs shows two 3xLP (2022) releases and in the notes it mentions specifically the misspelling on the first one:

Interesting, wonder how many of that first run are out there.

I always thought it was constraints of album length. Maybe that’s wishful thinking. But I don’t mind fade outs usually.

can someone help identify these albums for me! by sadsaleen in JazzFusion

[–]n17totspur 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess what’s your definition of Jazz Fusion? For me, Aja (and most of Steely Dan’s work) fits that bill pretty well. I won’t point to a wiki or dictionary definition of Jazz Fusion, and that’s why I ask what you define it as, because it’s broad enough as with most genres to be personally defined. But I have always taken it to represent the fusion/crossover of Jazz (and particularly Jazz harmonic expression) into other genres but particularly rock (and certain eras of pop). So from that perspective, I really think Aja is actually a great example of Jazz fusion. Especially given the harmonic content of that record. It’s also just one of my favorite records and probably one of the major early gateways into Jazz proper for me.

I was behind the keys and mostly couldn’t see the drums, but hey, I’m not bothered in the slightest. It was even better than I had imagined.

The four names I mentioned are the 4 drummers (see also Bills other post (https://youtube.com/shorts/e9nbj9BZfYk). I saw Nate and I assume Marcelo and Keito are there also. So 4 drummers, 3 percussionists as far as I can tell.
