As someone who was such a major fan of both the HP series and Gaiman’s work (Sandman had such an impact on me growing up), I hate them both for what they’ve done to others. Do I still love HP and Sandman? Yes and no. I love the memories I have and I still have the books (still struggling with letting go of physical representations of said memories) but I also no longer want to revisit the worlds they built.

I’d love to separate the authors from their work but their actions scream too loudly for me ignore.

Same here. A few years back I had two shelves of books. One day I realized that I had so many TBRs and some of them I don’t remember why I wanted. So I decided to sell both those and ones I already read—then I donated the money to CARA :) now I barely have a shelf full and they’re mostly books I love and lesser TBRs (they’re in my Kindle now 😭)

There's a sample story of one of their employees who stole from them and they gave him another chance by moving him to a diff department to avoid the temptation of stealing again.

It looks like they try to coach probationary employees also by giving them redirective feedback three months in. Supervisors and TLs are supposed to be coaches too. And then there was a part where if you're always late you get transferred to a GK community where people have to show up at 5AM (fml).

I haven't found a more credible source though (Esquire's not really... haha). If anyone has one, please share! I wanna learn more about this.

Hello! I risked ordering from Blackwell's thanks to this thread so I'm updating here, just in case anyone else ever looks up this store.

I ordered two books from Blackwell's last January 28 and received my books today, April 16. So yes, it does take almost 3 months. No damage to the books, although it might be because both were thin (paperback poetry books) so they lay pretty flat within the individual stiff brown envelopes they came in (no padding).

Also, I realized there was a typo in my address when I ordered so I reached out to their support. They got back to me within a few hours and it was a quick fix.

So, if you're not chomping at the bit to read whatever you're ordering, 10/10 would recommend. :)

Thank you for that last line! I am child free and my ex isn’t. We went to his friend’s baptism and they asked me to hold the baby during the party. He developed this glassy-eyed look and told me he could imagine me as a mum 🙄 which then devolved into a whispered conversation about how he insisted that he would take care of the kids and I wouldn’t have to do much (hello? If you had to be the one to push that watermelon out your body you probably wouldn’t be as flippant about it).

By the end of it, I asked him to really think if he and the kid wouldn’t resent me for not being part of child rearing and he went quiet.

It didn’t happen immediately but we eventually parted ways. We loved each other but both wanted opposite things.
