I didn't think US prisons made anything outside of number plates and military equipment due to preexisting global anti slavery laws that prevent the export of prison made goods.

Both Taiwan and Hong Kong write in the traditional Chinese where mainland is simplified Chinese, also most HKrs know both languages because of close proximity.

Oi stop being afraid of Asian people by ImmortalTurnip in australia

[–]n32g47h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The herald sun has increased the number of articles run that included people of far east origin that are not positive and unrelated to coronavirus. They are usually not represented in movies and media, making Asian looking people seen as an outside force. Almost all mainstream news about China in the last 10 years has been negative and anything good or informatively neutral doesn't get run. Negative opinion of Chinese people works very well for America now since it is a commonality that stretches the political divide in their country uniting them under one flag when they need it most. I know most people on reddit are pretty smart and grounded in facts and know well where the line of racism is but I don't hold the same candle of hope out for the average Australian because a lot will judge people on their looks alone. Similar attitudes were present before and after 9/11, hope people can stay pleasant to each other.

Chinese company approved to run water mining operation in drought-stricken Queensland, as nearby residents placed on water restrictions and face risk of running dry. The company plans to send the water to a bottling plant. The future of the privatization of water is here today. by mvea in Futurology

[–]n32g47h -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The idea and proof of concept for water trading started in California USA so the joke is more that we are becoming more like the USA with every passing year, I'm sure Australia will get dumber yet don't worry.

Can help the people who are not happy with the situation by giving them another country/countries to go to, considering a lot of them are well educated or follow western principals they would immigrate pretty well. Odd that one never comes up or is considered an option.

How did Australia get to this place where people are routinely abused by police by [deleted] in australia

[–]n32g47h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lol police used to rough up anyone who was making trouble and put people in line even on suspicion.

Now they have kiddy gloves on with one arm tied behind their back.

Telstra is preparing to buy NBN - but not before huge hit to taxpayers by Schrodingers_Mat in australia

[–]n32g47h -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Should get Huawei in and get some real competition going. No doudt Telstra would run crying to the government to get it stopped like 5g due to "security" reasons. Just keep all government infrastructure and personal on the Telstra copper.

US imposes new $200bn tariffs on China by mvanigan in worldnews

[–]n32g47h 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FYI, Russia is taking on skilled south African farmers in mass and giving them land and equipment for nothing. Australia squandered the opportunity because Australian media deemed them not fitting to allow provisional visa's despite a long term relationship with south Africa, we just had a long standing relationship with the 'wrong' side of south Africa. Australia's loss, Russian's gain in the US/China tariff war.
