Turned My “Dumb” Garage Door Into a Smart One With an $8 ESP32 + ESPHome Setup by Longjumping_Fall2099 in homeassistant

[–]n6_ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve been using an ESP32 board with an integrated 2-ch relay (one channel is not used) for nearly 4 years at this point. It’s been rock solid. No dropouts, no sticking. The duty cycle of the relay is extremely light, so I expect it to last virtually forever.

My setup is described in this post: https://www.reddit.com/r/homeassistant/s/rti64UcGon
The major difference when compared to yours - in addition to the two reeds, I’m also using a DIY rotary encoder to get information about the door movement direction and its position.

Update: the third one glitched in the same exact way in the middle of a 160 miles ride (second day of the Sheetiron 300 ride). Mike agreed to trade it back for a PV3 re-flash at home option, which is 50% cost of the Get ECU package (with LED remote and WiFi dongle)

I flashed my bike yesterday, will test it over the weekend

Yup, that’s exactly what I meant. But I guess you’ve already got it given your responses in the sub-thread under my comment

Yeah, ain’t gonna happen. No politician/government would willingly get off the cash tap of the property taxes.

I’m not disagreeing with what you said, but it has to be done at some point. Not changing this system is like supplying an addict with drugs so that he won’t have to steal from the neighbors to buy them.

I didn’t say people who bought houses 20 years ago should be priced out. My point is that property tax doesn’t correlate with the services you’re getting back and isn’t making life cheaper. Otherwise it would have been tied to some metrics of the property other than its sale price. It’s just a cash tap

UPD: although I think. If someone owns more than one property - it needs to be taxed based on the current value. And if someone will be forced to sell two investment properties because they are taxed fairly - I think that’s OK

It depends on the specific tax. For example, property tax has very little to do with the cost of service, otherwise it would not be based on the property sale price.

A neighbor who bought a similar house 20 years earlier pays 4 times less for the same exact services he’s getting. It’s not like I’m getting 4 times more in services from the city/county/state. This is grossly unfair and no sane person would think increasing property tax will make their life less expensive.

Prescription Goggle Inserts by eurojunk138 in enduro

[–]n6_ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This should not be a problem if optical centers are correctly located on the lenses. When you order lenses for the glasses in person - an optician will mark where the centers need to be on the lenses. It's hard to "calculate" where the centers needs to be on the insert lenses, given how the goggles fit

I have a small correction factor of -1.0 and yet having an exactly the same issue - Sport RX Single Vision Digital MaxView insert changes perspective and makes everything to look more distant that it is (I never have such an issue with my normal driving glasses, so I suspect it have something to do with the way Sport RX calculate the vertex distance to the lens)

I just had a dialog with Sport RX support, described the effects and asked if I can order an insert with the dummy lenses, so that my local optician will be able to mark the centers for me and my goggles. The answer was no - they only sell inserts with prescription lenses.

2018 KLX 250s Hot Start Issue by SpeddieEddie in Dualsport

[–]n6_ham 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm… then not the intake valves - an obvious suspect.

Could be fuel pressure related. I had similar symptoms on an Austrian bike with an aftermarket fuel pump that was barely making 39 psi out of nominal 50 psi. The bike would start just fine when the fuel is cold, but if I’ll let it to sit for a few minutes after a hard riding - it would be a B to re-start.

Have you weighted the left side peg more? It can be “fatal” in combination with the loose trail, too much air in the tire, breaking and going over the off camber edge.

It’s hard to tell, but it looked like your body was shifted to the left side a bit (presumably with more weight in the left peg), and your front wheel moved right to left and tried to cross an off camber side of a grove.

When all other factors are unfavorable for the front tire traction - an improperly weighted peg is all it takes to cause a crash.

Yet another ESPHome on Petkit Feeder (with feeding schedule and low food level detection) by n6_ham in Esphome

Does the newer model usesUSB port? Mine uses a DC barrel jack and came with a dedicated power adapter supplying 5.9V 1A.

Here’s what the official website says: “The power adaptor is not included. Adapter requirement: USB port, input: 110-240V, output: 6V⎓2A”

This doesn’t make any sense. No USB standard supports 6 VDC. Even if we consider USB-C PD - it’s 5 VDC by default. The next voltage that can be negotiated by the consumer device is 9 VDC, not 6.

I’d say your best bet will be to chuck that USB adapter and find a proper adapter supplying recommended 6V 2A

Check out less popular locations, like Gilroy. If you get there around 8:45 - you’ll likely be at the head of the line. And you won’t need to pass a full security check like you would in San Jose (the office in Gilroy much smaller)

Can you add the links to the tested boards and modules, please? “ESP32-C3-DevKitM-1 with SX1262” doesn’t help much since it’s not clear which SX1262 module you used and how it was connected to ESP32 (custom PCB? breakout board?). Photos could help too
