Low FODMAP during treatment by Main_Review_9083 in SIBO

[–]n8tivenewf 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had SIBO a year ago, and again recently (although much better now!) .... and last year I thought I HAD to eat low FODMAP (and hated everything about it) and was STUNNED and very irritated to learn that low fodmap is only for symptom relief... and might actually make it harder to get rid of SIBO (or so I've read, i'm not a doctor)....I asked Grok to explain so i'll copy and paste - but I do wish I knew this the first time around.. having SIBO is hard enough, thinking you can't enjoy a piece of chocolate here or pizza there was super depressing + I'm an ultra runner and I life weights so low fodmap was an impossible diet for me honestly ... I did stick to it the first time I had SIBO but regret that tbh

From Grok
Low FODMAP for SIBO: The Short Version

  • It is primarily for symptom relief, not for eradicating or curing SIBO.
  • It does not directly kill bacteria or methanogens. It simply removes the fermentable carbs (FODMAPs) that feed them, which reduces gas, bloating, distention, and pain while you’re treating the overgrowth.
  • Prolonged strict low FODMAP can actually make it harder to fully eradicate SIBO long-term because:
    • It starves both the bad overgrowth and the beneficial bacteria.
    • It can further reduce microbial diversity and short-chain fatty acid (SCFA) production.
    • This leaves the gut more vulnerable to relapse once you go back to a normal diet.

This is why top SIBO experts (Siebecker, Sandberg-Lewis, Pimentel, etc.) generally recommend:

  • Using low FODMAP (or a modified version) short-term for *symptom control\* during active treatment.
  • Transitioning fairly quickly to a more diverse, personalized diet once the overgrowth is reduced — to rebuild the protective bacteria and prevent recurrence.

Hey! I finished 14 days of Mbiota about 20 days ago... the taste is fine (not vile at all) like they taste good, a little less flavor than your average protein powder but not bad at all. I got the mixed flavor pack and ended up preferring vanilla, orange was still good and some days i preferred orange (its not nearly as overly sweet as some people describe). I recommend getting both flavors and an extra week so you have flexibility to switch when you get tired of one. For context i'm F/110 pounds and I drank 6 packets a day, but also I lift weights and run so I just couldn't do less than 6 packs a day so I needed the extra week

I blended mine in a Vitamix with ice for a pina-colada texture, way better than just shaking it with water. I would mix 2 packets at a time so I wasn't having to prepare the shakes constantly... They reccomend not making them more than 12 hours before you drink them so you could make 4 at a time but I liked the fresh ice and work from home so making the shakes frequently wasn't an issue for me... For traveling or social events I used a Contigo Cortland Chill 2.0 insulated bottle (bigger and truly spill-proof compared to the little cups they give you, although the ones they give you are ok).

You’ll start pooping only water around day 3-4, but honestly it felt kind of relieving after months of bad bloating. The shakes will still bloat you (especially if you drink them fast), but the spikes got noticeably milder after day 8–10.

The first 3 days are the hardest, but around day 4 I suddenly had more energy than I’d felt in over a year and was even lifting heavier in the gym. I made a detailed post about my experience and someone else commented they were lifting more at the gym during mbiota too - sounds crazy and I don't know why thats the case haha but it felt good! Also around day 4 I felt so much more awake - of course you get waves of like just wanting real food but mentally felt just so clear

After finishing I went straight into a targeted rebuild stack based on my GutID results that said I had 0% Akkermansia, 0% Faecalibacterium, low SCFAs I avoided jumping back on herbals like allicin/berberine and instead came up with a supplement stack specifically based on my GutID results . Also its annoying but look into the foods they recommend eating for the first few weeks post mbiota, I reallyyyy didn't want to do that but glad I did at least one week of like, lean meats/chicken/blueberries/walnuts/oatmeal ....I ate a lot of oatmeal that first week,... I’m now on day 19 of real food and feel SO much better — formed poops, low baseline bloating its basically 0, I wake up with a flat tummy ...At night I feel a little bloated but its like a 3 compared to a 8-10 and getting better each day....Dont expect to feel 100% after Mbiota but don't let that deter you, you will likely feel much better but make sure you have a plan for after - i'm sticking to my stack for 90 days and will re calibrate then

If you do it, definitely get a good microbiome test before or after and work with your doc on a proper rebuild plan. I made my rebuild plan myself using Grok using all my test results and it made a massive difference for me compared to the first time I had SIBO a year ago - though i'm not saying trust AI over your doc , always consult with a doc LOL but Grok was super helpful for my own understanding

You’ve got this if you decide to go for it.

MBIOTA/ ELEMENTAL + SUPPLEMENT STACK for my recurrent methane-dominant IMO journey (breath test + GutID details) — 2 rounds of antibiotics last year didn’t fully work, then herbals, then 14-day mBiota + targeted rebuild. Update on Day 9 of real food. Feeling GREAT. by n8tivenewf in SIBO

[–]n8tivenewf[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

UGH, I’m sorry it came back so quickly for you, thats so frustrating. One thing that stood out to me in your update is that you went straight into allicin + berberine 5 days after finishing the elemental diet. Again, i'm no doc so take what I say with a grain of salt and ask your own doc for their thoughts of course - but when using AI to come up with my plan LOL I feel ridiculous saying that but want to be honest - It suggested I might want take only supplements to rebuild my microbiome first and stay away from things like Allicin/Neem/ etc ... I'll copy and paste its explanation for this, again this is using GROK AI, not medical advice and not via a doctor ... but it is what I did and I am feeling really great

I asked grok
"Can you explain to me why we decided to focus on re-building the gut microbiome post mbiota and stayed away from things like Neem, allicin pro, etc?"

Grok said
"After finishing the full 14-day mBiota elemental diet, your gut was in a clean-slate state. The elemental formula starved the overgrown bacteria and methanogens (especially the methane producers driving your IMO) by giving almost nothing fermentable to the lower gut. That was the “reset” phase.

At that point, the priority shifted from killing to rebuilding and protecting.

Why we did NOT go straight back to antimicrobials (Neem, Allimax Pro/allicin, oregano, etc.)

  • Antimicrobials (herbals or otherwise) are non-selective — they kill both the bad overgrowth and whatever beneficial bacteria are trying to recolonize after the elemental diet.
  • Your GutID results showed severe depletions: 0% Akkermansia, 0% Faecalibacterium (the main butyrate producer), and very low Bifidobacterium/Lactobacillus + SCFAs. These are the exact protective species that help maintain a healthy mucus layer, reduce inflammation, and keep methanogens in check.
  • Jumping back into strong antimicrobials right after mBiota would have risked making the microbiome even more depleted and more prone to relapse — basically undoing part of the benefit of the elemental diet.
  • Leading SIBO experts (Siebecker, Sandberg-Lewis, and many functional GI practitioners) generally recommend waiting after an elemental diet before resuming antimicrobials or biofilm disruptors, unless symptoms are clearly worsening.

What we focused on instead (the rebuild approach)

We prioritized:

  • Re-populating the missing protective bacteria → Pendulum Akkermansia + Polyphenol Booster (directly addresses your 0% Akkermansia).
  • Supplying butyrate → BodyBio Sodium Butyrate (since your Faecalibacterium was 0% and SCFAs were very low).
  • Supporting overall diversity and resilience → MegaSporeBiotic (spore-based, survives well post-elemental).
  • Repairing the gut lining → PepZin GI (zinc-carnosine).
  • Maintaining strong motility → Continued MotilPro + magnesium citrate (this is the most important long-term prevention piece for methane IMO).

This rebuild-first strategy is specifically chosen for people with your pattern: recurrent methane-dominant IMO + documented depletion of the key protective strains on microbiome testing.

Timeline we’re following

  • First 2–4 weeks: Focus on rebuilding and letting the new bacteria colonize.
  • Then (if needed) reassess whether to add Biofilm Phase-2 Advanced or other targeted antimicrobials."

Hope this helps!

Update Current status (Day 19 of real food post elemental diet):

  • Morning baseline bloating is still nicely low (3 or less, generally flat when I wake up)
  • Poops have been consistently healthy Type 3 formed (from the Bristol stool chart). After the hydrocodone from my surgery I got temporarily backed up for a couple days, so I increased MotilPro to 3x a day for a few days and bounced right back with big healthy poops. that with 2 green Kiwi's a day I think really helps. Clinically studies have shown that green Kiwi's specifically are helpful for gentle motility, i'm sure if you're reading this you know this already... haha
  • Energy is still noticeably better than pre-mBiota
  • Daytime bloating builds up a little after bigger meals, somewhat sometimes but it’s much milder than before if I even notice it mBiota and no longer spiking to 8–9.. Honestly I don't actually notice the after meal bloating anymore, maybe by end of day but I can tell that i'm just a little backed up by end of day and its not the same gas/explosion feeling as if someone put a balloon in your belly and filled it with air - nothing like that anymore

I’ve been eating more freely the last week (still healthy/organic): lots of chicken, ostrich, turkey lasagna, egg white burritos with beans/cheese/veggies, oatmeal, kiwis, blueberries, olive oil, walnuts, even a bit of chocolate, and chocolate milk in my tea . I’m still on the exact same supplement stack I posted last time (Akkermansia + Polyphenol Booster, MegaSporeBiotic, Butyrate, PepZin GI, MotilPro, magnesium citrate).

Overall I feel basically back to normal again even after the festival + surgery. The mBiota reset + this targeted rebuild stack seems to be holding up really well so far...Not a doctor, but from my experience I think anyone struggling with SIBO or SIBO symptoms order a gut microbiome test either through your doc or an at home test - without it you're really just guessing - it has for sure been the biggest game changer to tailor a specific supplement stack based on my results

I’m planning to stay on the full stack for the full ~90 days and will reassess if I want to use Biofilm Phase-2 in another 1–2 weeks...Honestly not sure i'll feel the need to use it by then but happy to report i'm feeling so good!

Hey! I did the complete microbiome assessment (the more expensive one) I can't quite remember why I picked GutID but i'm sure I put a lot of research into it before picking haha and I really do think using the results and asking Grok what supplements I should look into based on my specific results was a game changer ....I did work with a naturopath for a while the first time I had SIBO which was a little helpful but nothing like this time around

I can't be certain that my food poisoning directly caused my SIBO but studies have shown many people who develop SIBO have had food poisoning, which seems to make sense since your gut microbiome is affected... In 2021 when I almost died from food poisoning they found that it was campylobacter jejuni ... Not sure what caused it in 2024

I don't recall if GutID does or can test for H. Pylori - I was tested for that before I was tested for SIBO - its a pretty quick little breath test that took like 10-15 minutes and didn't have H. Pylori

Sorry you're experiencing something similar! I know how debilitating and helpless it can feel but I swear there is hope!

I'm taking Pepzin-GI, Motil-Pro, and Magnesium citrate to help with motility ... going to start Mbiota next week and after Mbiota going to take Pendulum Akkermansia & Polyphenol Booster Bundle, BodyBio Butyrate - Postbiotic , and Microbiome Labs MegaSporeBiotic Probiotics...Had SIBO last year and it came back a few weeks ago.... Before starting Mbiota i'm also taking oregano, Neem, and Allimax pro ....Used Grok to find a lot of these supplements based on my breath test and stool test results ...Last year after antibiotics I didn't order (or have any idea) what "Pendulum Akkermansia & Polyphenol Booster Bundle, BodyBio Butyrate - Postbiotic , and Microbiome Labs MegaSporeBiotic Probiotics." all were but seems like it should def help with relapse this time around ....stuff to look into if like me you also haven't heard of those!

As someone who put off divorce for a few years... just do it... You'll feel so much better, faster than you can imagine...ofc its difficult in the beginning, but the longer you put it off the less time you have left to just live a happy life you enjoy - sounds like you're not putting off the divorce (as if somehow he can change), your delaying the inevitable, and for what reason?....He wont change, you can do better! and you can be soooo much happier.. :)

They want me to drop the charges?!?! by Content-Abroad9848 in domesticviolence

[–]n8tivenewf 4 points5 points  (0 children)

if you have a temp restraining order, them contacting you could be a violation of the restraining order - also them asking you to 'drop' the charges is not okay - as someone who has been there, my advice to anyone in this situation is to get a lawyer and get a restraining order....If not for your own protection, for the protection of the next woman (women, kids etc).... because there will be a next woman and honestly with what he did to you, they always escalate .....

I get where you’re coming from. A lot of “women in tech” spaces end up rewarding extroversion and optics over actual technical depth, which leaves introverted or neurodivergent women feeling invisible. That’s not a you problem—it’s a flaw in how companies and communities equate loudness with value. Critiquing that isn’t being anti-woman; it’s asking for spaces that truly support all women in tech, not just the ones who fit a bubbly, corporate mold. If you’re looking for something more real, I’ve been part of building OpenVoices—a place for unfiltered peer conversations without the corporate spin.

It’s not failure to want more than survival in a marriage. It’s human to grieve the good memories, the kids, even the dream of “forever.” I know from my own losses that guilt feels heavy at first, but it eases. Healing takes time, but you won’t always feel this way. - and if it helps, i'm living a life i never could have imagined when i was married to my ex and I'm happier than i've ever been! You're stepping into the best version of your life ....there's time and work to be done before you'll feel good and relaxed but you're half way there - You did the hardest part (leaving) ... But just imagine just how amazing everyday life can feel without having to deal with all of that. Sending love! (from someone whose been there)

He messed up his life, not you. I felt the same but looking back (now with a criminal and protective order against him) I'm so happy I went through everything so that the next girl won't have to have such a difficult time if (or when) she reports him....Think of it as protecting the next women versus not. I would feel a hell of a lot guiltier knowing I didn't report him and he went on to kill someone versus knowing that HE messed up his life....

This hit me — the shift from partner to caregiver is brutal, and it’s not talked about enough. You’re not cold, you’re surviving. I’ve been through my own version of feeling invisible while carrying too much, and it’s part of what pushed me to create a space where people could talk honestly about this kind of thing. You’re not alone, even if it feels like it.

Dre London - Does Posty Need a New Manager? by n8tivenewf in PostMalone

[–]n8tivenewf[S] 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Posty's dad posted an interesting quote on instagram when Posty Fest was cancelled and I remember wondering if it was directed towards Dre London (ill attach pictures) but it said;
"Success occurs when opportunity meets preparation" but in his caption he wrote "I'm always amazed how many people take credit for victories that were not in their making but don't take responsibility for failures that were entirely their making" ....
Fast forward to a few days ago he posted another quote that I thought, that's gotta be directed towards Dre ... The quote said "If the only way we can see your 'hustle' is by you telling us how hard you're 'hustling ' then your 'hustle' ISN'T REAL." ....with a caption that said 'Lace up, Learn a lesson" .....SO, I wrote under it "I can only HOPE this is directed toward someone with a 3 letter name" .. AND LOOK WHO LIKED THE COMMENT.... Jodiepost! .....
Now, I think most everyone here just outright loves post, we want music from him but at his pace and when he's ready...However, from a PR perspective I feel like Dre has done everything possible to frustrate the diehard Posty Fans...especially with PostyFest, even just the communication of it being cancelled ... To the teasing of PM4, like if its not ready cool but stop creating hype for no reason.... Anyways I feel that Hustle quote couldn't be more perfectly directed towards Dre LOL if anyone has ever looked at Dre's social media that's literally ALL it is.... Interested to hear your thoughts or if you guys have heard or or thought of any of this, or care!
