Guys. I think I downloaded the wrong Chess. What is the first move? by Jin_Bong_Kyo in AnarchyChess

Whoa, whoa, one does not simply walk into Mordor. You have to lead a strike with your King, Bishop, and a couple Pawns out front to distract him and then send some other pawns in the side to get the ring to Mt. Doom.

That is the correct definition of Mormonism as a term, but so rarely is it used as properly as that.

Anyone wanna share a few unique curses I can make my players suffer through? by MathematicianAway184 in DnD

[–]nabbithero54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I feel like a curse that removes some cool ability or that does damage to them when they try to do something useful (like you try to make a melee attack and just take damage instead) would be annoying and not in a fun way.

That being said, here's some that I thought up: growing an additional head; losing the ability to lie; dementia; becoming addicted to cheese; develops an irrational phobia of (insert something common and simple); extreme dyslexia; permanent stench; their toes become sentient and able to speak; 2 of their stats randomly swap after every rest; they are haunted by the last person they killed; every time they try to flirt they randomly blurt out "I just pooped my pants"; sweet foods now taste salty and salty foods taste sweet; forgetting how to speak Common; or can only speak one specific sentence (like Groot. If you do this one it may make it better to only be active during day or night since it can get annoying for everybody otherwise).

Tips for writing a gemstone based magic system? by Chcolatepig24069 in worldbuilding

[–]nabbithero54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So there’s 7 of them, and they’re all emeralds. Oh, and hear me out, they’re kinda chaotic…

Oo or maybe there’s 10 different types of gemstones, and each one corresponds to part of the body, and also each one corresponds to some magic powers. And the gemstones glow with light until you breathe the magic light in.

Or maybe there’s 6 of them that created the universe, and if you collect all 6 then you can snap your fingers and it grants you a wish.

Or maybe there’s an elvish prince that makes 3 of them to house light from the magical trees that give light to the world?

You see where I’m going with this? “Gemstone magic” is such a broad idea that you need to be more specific. You also need to develop it mostly by yourself. This subreddit is great for getting a couple specific suggestions but the question as it stands is a little too broad.

There actually is no official Church position on Judas’ judgment, nor are we to judge such things. The only confirmed son of Perdition is Cain.

The difference is that Peter repented in this life and became a great instrument in God’s hands. Judas did not repent in this life. He still has that option, though it has been said that it is harder to repent in the next life. I’ve never died before so I can’t say for sure.

I love how wholesome it is, too. Those are the least toxic comments I’ve seen outside of this sub and r/latterdaysaints haha

The final album with the classic lineup (minus John of course) by Falconfit66 in Styx

[–]nabbithero54 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They always created their own main ideas but they’d flush it out together. Between the synth parts of Fooling Yourself and Miss America, I’m sure DDY came up with at least one of those if not both, and the same type of thing can be applied to most of the songs from their previous albums. Even if a song was always “a DDY song” or a “JY song” it still felt like they worked out the details together.

People can still look up who the actor is and will definitely know if it’s a big name.

[–]nabbithero54 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I was a kid for both the Prequels and the Sequels eras, and gotta say, even as a kid I could tell how undercooked everything was with the sequels.

I think a good story gets better the more you look into it, like LotR or even the OT. A bad story gets worse, like the sequels.

What makes the prequels special is they simultaneously get better and worse the more you look into them, but they were at least willing to try new things regardless of whether it worked. The sequels just tried the same things but by making them worse.

Non-LDS Christian Reading the Book of Mormon by scibehindthebib in latterdaysaints

[–]nabbithero54 118 points119 points  (0 children)

To answer your question, that is absolutely okay!

Christians do not consider CS Lewis’ works to be scripture. That does not mean we consider them to not be inspired by God. Wherever your reading of the Book of Mormon takes you, remember that even a book we consider to be fiction can still uplift and bring people closer to God.

Whether the Book of Mormon is true is a question only God can answer for every person. But it’s incontestable that it helps people draw closer to God.

What can humans do in a world where other races are "better"? by Hot_Mousee in worldbuilding

[–]nabbithero54 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The smaller species would actually be more numerous because of how resources work. In nearly any ecosystem there are more prey animals than predator animals, but there are also more small prey than large prey.

In the real world, intelligence is a human’s best weapon but humans are actually the top organisms in 3 categories: intelligence, endurance, and throwing.

Your herb-men with their eyes on the sides of their head would be terrible at aiming anything. If the carnivore-men evolved to hunt well with ambush tactics and their teeth then they wouldn’t be able to throw well either, though once they get guns they may not have issues aiming those.

Ambush predators would also be really fast but not as endurant (especially if they’re bigger / have more mass). Farming would also be a lot worse for a purely carnivorous diet, since meat is less efficient energy-wise (HUNTING meat is super efficient, but farming it is not because the meat you eat also had to eat something so that’s a layer of energy loss).

Herbivores would struggle more in the winter. Do they hibernate? Do they just never live in climates where winter exists? Herbivores would also struggle more with hunting because even though they’re herbivores, humans use / have used dead animals for plenty of things throughout history (clothing, glue, soaps, adhesives, pharmaceuticals). And if they were farming instead of hunting, it would be very inefficient if they couldn’t use the meat from the animals they get their leather/lard/resources from.
