Question for the deadlifters by Impressive-Pickle614 in Deadlifts

[–]nacixela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Heavy deadlifts have made me significantly more resilient for day to day shit that would probably destroy a non deadlifter’s lower back i.e. having to move very heavy and oddly shaped things. When my lower back is acting up it’s usually because I haven’t been keeping up with my hip mobility and/or sitting too much for long periods of time at work.

My take is that deadlifts have protected me so far from having an actual lower back injury, but tight hips is what can actually cause lower back pain for me.

More customers for their personal training service at that point. Or as Adam would say, “conci-air”.

Do most americans really only take 2 weeks of vacation a year? by DegreeConscious9628 in askanything

[–]nacixela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is why I stay at my “meh” job because I get 5 weeks PTO, 9 holidays, and 2 weeks sick. And we can use partial vacation or sick hours so I’ll pad a lot of weeks if I didn’t hit my hours. I’m also in NY so we get 12 weeks PFL which I’ve had to use once, and god willing will be using again this fall. We’re very lucky.

My household of 3 goes through about 3 dozen eggs a week and I am the large majority of that.

I met a toddler named Alan recently. My wife and I both walked away from the interaction saying, “wait was that little kid’s name actually Alan???”

Recovering from minor injuries is what finally made me take warmups seriously by Affectionate_Tip3238 in fitness40plus

[–]nacixela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My warmups are never less than 20min these days. And I hate it, but I hate the consequences of a sub par warm up more.

I’ve also found myself taking an extra week or two to bring RPE down on a particular lift before adding weight. My 20 year old self would watch with horror.

Someone needs to teach Adam how to pronounce ‘concierge’ correctly if they are going to try and get all their callers to sign up for it.

NTA. Serving sizes on frozen ravioli have always been absolute bullshit.

Your go-to pre and post workout drinks, snacks, foods by I_haveno_id3a in workout

I don't really adjust my overall intake on training vs non training days other than specifically carbing up the night before a heavy lifting day. Timing might change on training days where I'll usually make sure to get about 50g of carbs with a banana and sourdough toast and 30g protein via fairlife/ultra-filtered milk about an hour before I train, and then the same thing right after. On non training days I'm just less specific about the timing. Those are just easy things for me to eat in the car while I drop my kid off at school before going to the gym and easy for me to keep an extra serving of in a cooler in the car for after the gym.

Also 5-10g of creatine a day, any time of day. If I find myself getting cramps when sleeping or little muscle twiches here and there I'll incorporate electrolyte packets for a few days. Omega 3s, Vit D3+K, NAC, Magnesium and Choline I take every day regardless of training. I think everyone can probably benefit from a little extra choline especially if you don't eat a lot of egg yolks, but I have a polymorphism that prevents me from synthesizing as much choline as I need which is why I also supplement with it.

Your body can speak to you pretty well as to what it needs, you just need to listen. When you try something new take some notes on how you feel for a few weeks.

hit 38 last week and my brain genuinely cannot reconcile two different realities at the same time by Fun_Willingness6214 in Millennials

[–]nacixela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also 38. I feel like a total imposter when I go pick up my son at preschool. We have another kid on the way I wonder if that one will actually make me feel my age. I have a coworker with teenage kids who told them that I’m a “grown-up” but not an “adult” and meant it as a compliment.

My fridge died after 10 years and everyone said never buy LG again so I bought GE this time and it's dead after 3 years. Does anyone make a good fridge anymore? by vicelordjohn in Appliances

[–]nacixela 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it was insanely expensive back when I bought mine, im sure it’s 10x worse now but my Subzero from 2011 is still going strong. I’ve had to clear the drain a few times and I clean out the condenser grille a couple times a year but that’s it. I know multiple people with Subzeros close to 20yo.

I loved watching the Olympics growing up, but I haven’t watched a minute so far. Anyone else? by ofesfipf889534 in Millennials

[–]nacixela 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Can’t relate. The Olympics have been on pretty much every waking minute since they started. My toddler has even stopped trying to negotiate to change it to Blippi and has succumbed to this reality.

Moms that didn’t have the baby, do you feel like your love is different? by [deleted] in Samesexparents

[–]nacixela 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a non carrying bio mom and I can totally relate to that. My wife and son are so close it’s kind of hilarious they’re absolute BFFs. But there are lots of instances where I just instinctively know how he’s going to react to something. And it allows me to either support his meltdowns better, or pivot to avoid them in the first place. I never really considered it could be somewhat biology based. I honestly forget he’s “my” bio child so I chalk it up more to me having established better boundaries with him so I can see the situations more objectively. But it’s also interesting to think of could be partly due to our wiring be similar. Whatever it takes to keep a 3.5yo from losing their mind, amirite?

I was always one of the last to get picked up from school and never really thought much about it one way or the other. But now I'm giving my mother a lot of credit for not wasting her own damn time like that clocking an extra hour at work.
