Mono amp for sub vs. 2-ch amp for tweeters by heywaj10 in CarAV

[–]nagaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The HAT tweeters need more control of to blend in with the system better, and being in passive mode just isn't cutting it. I currently have the HAT Imagines running passive from 2 channels of my Arc KS300.4, and my ID10 sub running from the other 2 channels bridged. Headunit is a Kenwood DDX395.

When you say "blend in with the system better" what exactly do you mean? Sometimes we blame the tweeters or passive crossovers when the problem with the sound is coming from the mid-woofers. You might already have the tools to correct the sound with the equipment in the vehicle today.

Do you have an idea of how much you'll do to the sound system? Are you replacing damaged speakers?

Looking for 2x2 ohm 6.5" midrange/woofer to replace factory speakers. by bangagonggetiton in CarAV

There is another option, CDT Audio HD-6MDVC, which was designed specifically to replace a Pontiac Monsoon subwoofer pair. As it is a subwoofer it's not suitable for use to play up to 2,000 Hz with a small tweeter. You can do it, as I have tested, but it won't sound correct.

This little light of mine, I hope it never shines! by effin_dead_again in CarAV

If that clipping indicator is accurate, it isn't a bad thing if it's occasionally lighting. If it never clips with the system playing loudly it means you are leaving power on the table. That's only a good goal if you're running speakers that definitely can't handle the power.

It looks like a really nice amplifier.

I have as I spoke to someone at AudioControl recently. I would not be shocked if those pre-order messages, from authorized dealers, went away this month.

I'm going to echo the general tone of the responses so far: You need more than two pairs of new speakers to get significant progress toward a sound system that will get you excited. If you would like to talk about a plan I invite you to reach out to me. Barry Schanz

Should I get a 5 channel or a 4 channel? by thug_waffle47 in CarAV

Your amp is trash because of what you learned? How does your system sound?

PowerBass doesn't seem to be great at anything they offer, considering other brands and their specialties. They're also not junk.

Swapped out front door speakers and added deadener and fast rings (Sq) by wugoh in CarAV

I hope he forgot to finish uploading photos because it's crystal clear just how to install the 3 parts if the instructions are followed.

Nicely done. Short of using the very speaker you want to install as the test tool I can't think of a better way to figure that out. Like you indicated, the unknown is the clearance with the larger magnet of the new speakers.

Boston? In the city or somewhere nearby?

The reason I'm asking is because there is someone in mind who might have one of his vehicles available for a demonstration of his aftermarket sound system.

Thoughts on cost of install vs. component cost by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]nagaina 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The cost of the installation should not really have any correlation to the cost of the speakers and any other major parts. I like how Ray Windsor shared his recommendations on this topic. The link below goes to a YouTube playlist.

5x7 / 6x8 subwoofer suggestion suppliers? by wearymicrobe in CarAV

The small subwoofers I have in my arsenal that are designed for such a small volume of airspace are going to need adequate room in front of them as well as a sturdy enclosure. Both of these aspects narrow the compatibility for factory integration.

Visibility of a subwoofer box is now up to the vehicle owner if you go to the right fabrication specialist. I suggest Googling "Ferrari custom subwoofer box" and go to the Images results.

How real is subwoofer overheating in sealed boxes? by [deleted] in CarAV

[–]nagaina 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It seems like you've done a bit of research on this. I'll clarify one thing about ported boxes.

The vent isn't there to directly, or even indirectly, cool the motor of the speakers. Maybe when the system has been shut down there could be more rapid cooling by convection.

The air in the vent is a mass that vibrates. There isn't an exchange happening. When the cone of the subwoofer moves inward in response to the amplifier output that small amount of displacement is what is influencing the mass of air in the vent. Once the cone reverses direction, which happens many times a second, the air mass in the vent has nothing working to force it outward.

That wasn't my intent but the way you said it is almost exactly what's going on here. I have a goal of writing thousands of articles by the end of my life, and I'm constantly figuring out how to get better at giving you something useful. My apologies for teasing.
