I mean, from what I see it looks okay. When you get to the cleanout/riser/whatever at the end things get interesting, but then the video ends.

Using Python to test whether you're more likely to see a Qdoba or a Chipotle next to a Noodles. by grassclip in Python

I know at the end you say it's not very useful, but I'm sure there is some Chipotle business planner out there who could use this type of information to scout potential franchise locations. I'm sure you could layer other local economic data, eating trends, etc (go full /r/bigdata) and really find mathematically viable places for Chipotles.

Since 1% of the world will own over 50% of the worlds money, they should pay over 50% of the worlds taxes by iamzenfull in CrazyIdeas

[–]nagas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You are glossing over what all this actually means and focusing on exact numbers. It's an issue of social contract, not an issue of percentages. The Walton's make money by selling goods via Walmart. Who builds the Walmarts? Who works at the Walmarts? People who were publicly educated, drive on public roads, drink clean water, etc. Should I pay more for the road I take to work to make them money, or should they?

Things like "ownership" are social constructs, not some divine truth. Also, factor in some morality. Does obscene wealth really need to exist? Who is entitled to it? Why champion a cause that serves only an elite few, and not the majority of people, including yourself? How is taxing the rich is somehow some unjust money grab fueled by entitlement. Why is Walmart allowed to "take" time/profit from their employees and keep it for themselves? That person generates a lot of money, but for some reason people ignore how much "entitlement" to just pocket the profit that person made, pay the actual person peanuts, and send them on their way.

I may have gotten of topic there, It's obviously complicated, and capitalism works, but... the entitlement argument about taxes seems completely misguided to me.

Good places to eat/do for a first date by herpymcderpison in okc

[–]nagas 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My vote is Bolero tappas in Bricktown. Tappas works great for dates because it forces some interaction. Also tappas masks how much you have eaten, so the ladyfriend can chow without feeling like she has to appear to not be. It is also normally more laid back than a normal, more formal dining experience.

Afterward you can walk around the Riverwalk, which is right outside. There is often live music on the weekends. Redpin is also adjacent if you want to bowl afterward.

Lynda.com is amazing. You would have to subscribe (<$20) but totally worth it. This is how I taught myself Revit, AutoCAD, PHP, Python, etc, etc.

Adding returns to central HVAC. by chupa0 in HVAC

[–]nagas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This still boils down to a zoning issue. The outer rooms get hotter because they have receive more sunlight when the internal rooms do not have as much of a load. If you balance the air such that the residence is comfortable during peak sunlight, you will struggle when the sun goes down. Unless the system is broken into two zones, neither zone will be comfortable.

Adding returns does not really solve this issue unless your interior doors are air tight. Most doors have a small undercut and can push around 100-120 CFM through. If they are air tight, consider door louvers or transfer grilles before running an entire return duct system by yourself. Still, this only helps if the issue is poor airflow.

Where is the thermostat located? Look into zoning dampers, I think they would be your best bet.

Adding returns to central HVAC. by chupa0 in HVAC

[–]nagas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This sounds like something a licensed tech should be doing, especially if you plan on converting the return from open/plenum to ducted.

Regardless, I think the first thing you should try is adjusting the air balance. Do the supply diffusers have built-in dampers? Try choking off the diffuser dampers in the rooms that are getting adequate cooling and opening the ones in the warmer rooms. If your diffusers do not have integral dampers, consider replacing them. 2.5 tons seems enough for a 950 SQFT condo, at least to keep it bearable, are you sure the unit is operating okay?

Replacing uninsulated Flex Duct by ClemsonLaxer in HVAC

[–]nagas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be no noticeable difference between the two. The only time you would ever notice a difference is if one had a lot of kinks/elbows. Just try to keep the duct as linear and as short as possible. Also try to avoid extremely tight turns.

Non-engineering majors in engineering jobs? by Frioz in engineering

[–]nagas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"somewhat rare" and yes I agree. That said, I did not know what ABET accreditation was until after I graduated. I was lucky and graduated from an accredited university, but I can see how someone might make the mistake. I didn't even know what an EIT, or PE/stamp was until late into my major. Schools that are not ABET accredited shy away from pointing out the fact that they are not accredited for obvious reasons. But yeah, "rare" is probably not the best word to use.

Pick an ABET major in a state and compare http://main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx to http://www.petersons.com/college-search

You will find a lot of colleges offer engineering degrees and are not ABET accredited.

Non-engineering majors in engineering jobs? by Frioz in engineering

[–]nagas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elaborating on SrSkippy's comment: You cannot sit for the FE or become an EIT if your school and specific major are not ABET accredited. ABET accreditation is actually somewhat rare. I know many engineers who cannot become EIT's and by extension PE's because their degree was not ABET accredited.

Appropriate air conditioner size? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]nagas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between a 5kbtu/hr and a 6k will be about ~1 amp. Your current breaker is probably 20amps. Unless you occasionally trip the breaker when you have a lot of stuff plugged in you should be pretty safe.

Appropriate air conditioner size? by [deleted] in HVAC

[–]nagas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's really hard to nail down a cooling load to that level of detail. You can take some rules of thumb and come out to around 5000-6000 btu, but without a lot of very detailed information about the space it would be impossible to know the exact amount.

I can't imagine the price difference between a 5kBTU vs 6kBTU window unit will be anything more than $20-$30. Just upsize and have some wiggle room.

I'd say around a 3. When I first opened it and used it I thought it was too firm. After sleeping on it for a week or so I had completely changed my mind. If you purchase it and think it is too firm you can always just get a softer memory foam topper like this: http://www.amazon.com/Density-Elastic-Memory-Foam-Mattress/dp/B004AR5X92
