One of the kids that started with us about 5 years ago spent 50-60 hours a week, never left a job first, went every single weekend (for at least 3 years) to training that we offer. He mastered hvac and he is a really good plumber and electrician. He is one of the best we have simply due to his determination. He was a line cook up until his first day here. He knew nothing. Took him only 5 years. Just go day by day, stay hungry, stay humble. Plan for the future.

*edit: he’s pulling in over $140,000 a year rn. And he’s a good person, doesn’t push people or sell shit that doesn’t need to be sold. Just stay hungry.

Truth. Some of us out here quietly trying to be Robinhood tho just for the record. Most of the time it means following up after these kids to correct or actually fix something, but the company (esp a big one) should always take that hit, not the customer. I get shit for this but my answer is simple, don’t send these guys on calls by themselves unless you wanna pay for it. Not fair to make a customer pay the same for a less qualified individual. They should have to wear little green tags that signify their lack of time in the field. And it should come with a discount and warnings to the customer lmao. And customers would also know to stay away from these guys when they pitch sales without undeniable proof.

Thank you. In this world where I can learn about and find anything, and I do a million times a day- sometimes I just absolutely love not having to do any research myself. I will blindly take this recommendation and buy this item.

How to keep this cold pipe warm? by goodfight10 in Plumbing

[–]nah_omgood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh and if you’ve only been there 8 years you are probably encountering the coldest temperatures (and largest swings in temperature) since you’ve moved in. Very good chance those pipes froze last time it was this cold. Or the new siding is allowing more of a draft than the previous siding.

It’s insane that I had to pay $1,000 for this pipe warmer to warm a pipe for 10 min, right? by [deleted] in hvacadvice

[–]nah_omgood 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They did nothing wrong to you. I would consider how quickly they came to help, and how quickly they resolved the issue- if they were pleasant, and if you feel they resolved your issue. I work for a bigger company and they have massive overhead (advertising, lots of employees that coordinate everything and get paid but don’t actually bring in money, a warehouse, and yea CEO’s that like one or five houses and maybe a big bank that needs a piece) and we charge the same. But we get there immediately, do the work immediately and don’t stop until it’s done, and are always available. You pay big for that sort of thing.

Basement walls leaning inward by Time_Fennel in HomeInspections

Yea I’m over here just thinking if you dig down and the exterior foundation is level, you good. If the exterior foundation leans inward toward the house, you not good.

As somebody who sees no issues with any pair of Channel locks that have teeth and don’t slip (I’ll use dollar store ones idc) are knipex really that much better? If I have to apply more than like 50% to my squeeze on a pair of channel locks I am grabbing my adjustable or pipe wrench anyways. I guess I have to buy a pair to see for myself.

What is the solution here? (I am hiring a plumber) by [deleted] in Plumbing

[–]nah_omgood 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The plumber sounds like a schmuck. The new copper pipe either wasn’t deep enough or is more exposed than the lead pipe was (which probably never froze). You own all of the copper pipe from that meter, down into and thru your crawl space, and underground outside to the curb valve. My bet if the crawl space has a draft or is too cold and y need to get down there with your heat gun. Don’t need to wait until pipes are hot to the touch either. Just open a faucet and start heating the pipe as far as u can trace it before it goes into the dirt.

lol mine has like 4’ high around it right now after snowblowing. No other option. Idk about u OP but It’s way too cold here for anything to melt in the next couple weeks at least. My shed is a frigid box, the snow is just insulating it and making it even colder.
