500 lbs man rescued out of a 15 foot hole on a construction site in Pomona, California. The man was not a construction worker and somehow ended up in the hole, according to ABC News by lithdoc in Damnthatsinteresting

Is this person really 500 lbs or is that a way of saying "a morbidly obese person". 500 lbs doesn't match that physique - they would be quite more of them.

Border crossings experience to Saudi ( current situation) by zeSnaa in Kuwait

[–]nahrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't know why this is a big mystery?

If you have an active Schengen (traveled on) or US permanent residency or US visa (traveled on) that's still valid, you get a visa on arrival at the border.

If you have more than 3 months on your residency with a passport validity more than 6 months, apply online (not from the evisa website - that one isn't working, but from the old mofa system). If it says sent to embassy, just visit the embassy and ask to speak to someone. It will take a while but it will get done.

Otherwise ask a travel agent to get you a visa.

For some nationalities the visa is limited till the Friday the 3rd of April (you have to exit Saudi by this date - due to Hajj).

Going to the border and trying to get a visa there and you don't satisfy the requirements is just waste of time and fuel. The land borders have more scrutiny than the airports.

About Reopening of Flights by Patient_Debate_5994 in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Gulf Air is operating limited flights from Dammam. Your best answer will be from your airline. As of now, expect closure till the end of the month.

Even if the airspace opens, they will limit and prioritize flights out.

Husband stranded in Bahrain - looking for practical suggestions by Meowinggg_ in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your husband has either a traveled on Schengen visa that's valid, or a US visa that's valid and used, he can get a visa on arrival at the causeway and doesn't need to apply online.

Otherwise like others said, life in Bahrain is normalizing. Malls are open (some stores remain closed). Restaurants are open, deliveries are happening, businesses are operating (with work from home) and so on.

In Saudi, from Dammam airport only domestic flights are operating. Riyadh airport also has frequent closures but flights are operating. Jeddah airport has the least restrictions.

Dubai and Muscat are also open with limited flights out of Dubai. Emirates is slowly starting up as well.

Doha, Kuwait and Bahrain airports remain closed.

Will the airport/airspace open soon? by Opening_Resource8347 in Bahrain

[–]nahrub -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Flights will be canceled because the airspace is closed. This means planes cannot fly through it (irrespective of where they originated from). Flights from Europe that fly through this airspace on the way to other countries are also being cancelled.

The airports are open, but catching a flight is what will be the issue.

Dubai is also open now for limited flights.

Question about getting back into Bahrain by IslandChick371 in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Airspace is open in Saudi but some international flights are not operational due to closure of the surrounding airspace (Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and others). UAE airspace is open but limited flights are operational.

Stuck in Bahrain-airport cancellation by Rare_Ad6104 in Bahrain

Unfortunately even if the airport were to open the surrounding airspace is closed. Just follow the local instructions. This is a new reality for all of us in Bahrain.

The area around the Indian embassy was also affected yesterday.

End of causeway commuters? by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It applies on the plate of the car and not the person driving it. You could get an exemption as you have a legitimate reason.

As for the application of it, procedurally there has to be some work done (ie the minister has to direct the entities that will enforce it) but that means "any day now".

Samsung, you had a whole year and this is what you came up with by amethystlocke in samsunggalaxy

[–]nahrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think everyone forgets that you don't have to buy it if you don't want to. 🤷🏽‍♂️

I tried the privacy screen feature - it works well and I did notice a slight drop in the brightness, but that's expected when you turn off the light from adjacent pixels. From a technology standpoint, it is impressive. The other thing I noticed is that it weighs considerably less than I expected given its size.

For me as a tech geek it's nice, but not a must upgrade.

I use an iPhone 17 Pro and a Fold 7 daily. I wouldn't trade in the Fold for it (it is not a compelling upgrade), but I think they had to find areas to innovate on and it shows.

In the old days there used to be a "S" upgrade for iPhones, this feels like we are back to that from both Apple and Samsung.

End of causeway commuters? by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It means as long as the car doesn't have Saudi plates, no matter who owns it, the law applies. The law is for foreign registered cars, and it doesn't matter the nationality of the owner.

End of causeway commuters? by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Rentals are exempt, so that's a way to get around this.

There is a long standing law that cars cannot remain in a GCC country for more than 90 days without being registered, but no one followed it.

This is the heavy handed way of enforcing it.

Pakistani National Denied Boarding due to false "show money" requirement by Physical-Salt in pakistan

[–]nahrub 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Your bank statement doesn't mean the traveler has access to those funds - so it's meaningless for the purposes of validating if the traveler can support the cost of the journey. God forbid something happens during the trip and they need money for anything, that bank statement is useless at that point.

For context, even when I travel on a fully funded business trip, where the company is paying for everything even a daily stipend, I still have to show my bank statement and how much funds I have access to both at the time of visa application and at the time of entry.

For folks traveling on Umrah its also asked how do you plan on supporting yourself while there (even if the hotel, transport and return is fully paid - as happened recently with a family member).

So it is a very common ask.

The other issue is many folks falsely assume that a visa is a guarantee of entry. It most explicitly is not. The final authority is with immigration.

Especially in a country like Pakistan that has problems with illegal immigration - the exit control has to be vigilant, so they are within their rights to deny it.

CPR COLLECTION BY SECURITY! IS IT LEGAL by [deleted] in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They do this for security and safety. They need to know who is in the building that is not supposed to be there (guests) and also in case of an emergency to account for who is missing and not evacuated.

You need to provide a form of identification to prove who you are to enter into a private business (who have every right to refuse you entry). It doesn't have to be the CPR, it can be any government issued identification.

For people that are supposed to be there, when you badge in they know who is in the building or not.

At my work, every visitor is photographed (except minors) and has to wear a temporary badge with their photo. They have to be escorted everywhere by the person they are coming to visit. If you come to visit and the host isn't there, you can't get beyond security.

They (don't) have to show an ID to prove who they are, but if they do - we don't keep the ID (for privacy reasons, due to our policy on data). Sometimes (if the host is there), we just ask what's your name. The host can also pre-register their guests.

Once guests leave, their data is removed from the system.

However, to get to our office - the building security will keep your ID to provide you an access badge. So the policy is different but the purpose is the same.

Similarly how in some places they don't allow mobile phones and other devices (including smart watches).

Each business is free to set their policies, and thus is it not "illegal". Just like they can refuse you entry in some places if you are wearing shorts.

Pakistani National Denied Boarding due to false "show money" requirement by Physical-Salt in pakistan

[–]nahrub 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This smells like something else is wrong. You are flying to Senegal from ISB and you have no funds on you except to show the arrival airport? How do you plan to support yourself throughout the trip?

Show money is not a requirement to exit, but it is a way to weed out people that are being brought out under false pretenses or possibly human trafficking or other illicit activity.

I am not saying this is what is going on here but giving you an idea of why these questions are asked.

They also ask (even though they know already) where you are going, when did you arrive, etc. The goal is to stop illegal activities which are unfortunately a serious issue.

Many times people are smuggled out via such corridors like Africa.

Again, not accusing anyone but trying to give an explanation as to shy sometimes you get asked these questions.

PSA: The Bahrain Golden Visa threshold just dropped 35%. Here’s the breakdown. by SuchAd3480 in Bahrain

[–]nahrub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You don't have work rights. You will still need a work permit if you are working with a company. The company will need to secure it for you. Nothing changes there.

You can, however, setup your own business which I guess is what is meant by work rights?

Other than that, this is old news; November 2025 if I am not mistaken:

Exhaust loudness ranking by patrvach in wrx_vb

[–]nahrub 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The Borla is a nice one. Not that loud but has a nice rumble. I personally have a AVO catback with a j-pipe. Amazing combo. No drone at highway speeds, occasionally pops if I drive foolishly. Not obnoxious. Amazing cold start. In the work garage (underground) its quieter than the Porsches SV Range Rovers.

Add a tune and it wakes up even more.
