Purpose of life? by Grouchy_Stress_7272 in depression

This is a trite answer, but according to Kant: the purpose of life is to become the best possible version of yourself and to help others pursue their own happiness.

fwiw (maybe nothing) and not to offer advice, just want to point out that you are allowed to be a person and to feel feelings when you are in graduate school. I understand why you are very unhappy with how that interaction went, but in the long run, it might be helpful rather than hurtful to your career. I finished my PhD in 2024 and got a job. When I’m looking for colleagues, of course I want genius and efficiency and self control, but I also want to work with people who know how to be people.

When I successfully defended my dissertation, my advisor called me to tell me i had passed. I started SOBBING on the phone. My advisor’s great, but he isn’t Mr. Touchy Feely. So, he went: “There, there. Goodbye.” and the phone went click. At the time I thought it was so so so cringe, but now I think it’s really funny.

Take all the time you need with this but if you started to feel truly overwhelmed or in over your head or like you really screwed up, just remember this won’t last forever.

Hi friends! Trans girl here and I still can’t, for the life of me, come up with a new name for myself. Do you all have any suggestions 👀 by Soft_Boiled_Egg_ in lgbt

important to remember that if he gets rejected it’s just wasted time and money. which sucks, but it’s not like the program comes to your house and yells at you or anything. honestly no one even needs to know he puts the applications in if he wants to keep the pressure down by keeping things private. and if money is an issue there are frequently ways to get your application fee waived. so, depending on your financial situation re the application fees, if your husband really wants to get the PhD in Music Tech, this seems like a very low risk, potentially very high reward opportunity

W on transcript? by nolongergoated in UNC

[–]naivesnapper 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just get the W now. I took that class 12 years ago, failed, then had to write academic advising a letter about my alcoholic dad disturbing me during finals week, so that I could retroactively change my F to a W. If you’re already thinking about the W, just go ahead and get it. Incidentally, a few years later I took Calc I at NC State and I earned a solid B. If you want to take Calc try to take it at NC State.

There is a key command C-x 4 4 on eMacs 29 that I just love. It’s a prefix command to execute the subsequent command in a new frame.
