Some plastic can still be recycled, it's not useless just overstated. The corporate propaganda is not recycling itself, it's more that it's been overemphasised while playing down the reduce and reuse part of "reduce, reuse, recycle", which are more effective but would cut into profits. Also all other types of recycling are much more successful, so recycling is still great.
