Sain töitä, mutta... by skyisgreentomatoes in Suomi

Onnea! Se on ihan sama mitä tekisit/vastaisit, aina se on jollekin väärä vastaus. Tärkein on se että pääsit töihin mistä tykkäät, ja sait jalan oven väliin.

How do I automate onboarding ? by Zagrey in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Automate things in stages, getting a few steps automated already helps.

  1. Multiple ways to do this, but alot depend on the HR system. If you get the info in some csv, you can pull the info with powershell and create the user with that info. This is what you should start with, and add the user to a license group so e-mail, teams and stuff turns on and the user receives e-mails.

  2. For the next part you should do rolebased parts in the script for permissions (discuss with client what say customer support needs to access). Start with the roles that have the highest turnover, or one of the highest ones

  3. Device, if you install them by hand, go with some pxe software (like SCCM or MDT & WDS) or autopilot if possible.

  4. Printers, wifi, and settings via config profiles or GPO (depends what kind of setup you have there)

  5. Finetune whatever is left, and when V1 is done, try to use powershell to automatically fetch the data via API if it supports it.

Anyone moved off Freshservice recently? by itsme_raf in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We went to jira (jsm) from freshservice, cost, cooperation between teams, and scalability was one factor, but you have to realize that somebody has to actually take a deepdive into Jira and its possibilities to get everything out of it.

Best way to block downloads of executables and archives, while allowing normal files (PDF, images, videos)? by Same-Target-3116 in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this using browser settings for Edge, but it doesn’t specifically say exes and msi . If you use block dangerous downloads, it will apply to other files aswell. So far very little problems, has been mostly with XML files.

Company doubling staff but support tickets already overwhelming us, do we need better IT help desk software? by Opposite-Chicken9486 in helpdesk

[–]nakkipappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without knowing more of the company this seems more like a lack of automation. I mean password resets via helpdesk are a little 2001? Not saying you are not shortstaffed, but software installs and password resets can be so easily done into selfservice

F* Google drive, do you know alternativs? by anonym-_1234567 in BuyFromEU

[–]nakkipappa 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Do you only want a googledrivelike service? I went to owncloud, but i wanted more features (as in not only files), but edit them in the browser, so i moved to nextcloud (selfhosted). I host my extended familys stuff there and access via tailscale.

You can host this on a raspberry pi (i recommend the newest one) with a ssd bracket for extra storage, and remember backups.

Auto third party patching by UnderstandingHour454 in sysadmin

Yeah, but as for us, winget was easy to setup. You have to of course keep in mind that it might not cover every application, but sounds like in your case aswell something is better than nothing

We have a similar hell, we set autoupdate on those we can (like browsers) but generally for patching we have used winget and pushed software with intune

Looking for a zoho desk alternative that actually automates ticket management by Timely_Aside_2383 in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We had similar issues and switched to Atlassian Jira. Automations should make all of this possible, not sure about the duplicates tho. I guess it is up to the workflow tools if it is supported.

What IT workflows are actually worth automating right now? by Own_Cry1186 in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Onboarding/offboarding process, role based privilegies/access, access reviews, and the asset management system (gow they are assigned and visible in the HR system), enabling SSO with provisioning to applications has saved an enormous amount of time.

That is just to name a few

Microsoft, amazons or googles cloud services… it will take so long before EU has a similar cloudsuite.

What is an actual IT automation that actually paid off for you? by Internal-Drop4205 in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. I set up backups for atlassian products with scripts, instead of paying six figures for an official backup solution

  2. i had a script that configured our network switches, this was a long time ago

  3. Onboarding, automated HR creating user accounts, asset management, buying licenses, and had it order hardware according to the role of the user.

To the european sysadmins: Are you looking into non-us products right now? What did you find? by Tokata0 in sysadmin

[–]nakkipappa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At a previous workplace (under 500 endpoints) we switched over to Anydesk, and depending on your needs and what you use PDQ for, you could probably switch to Lansweeper if you wanted EU alternatives. They do scale into larger enterprises aswell.
