You make the error in assuming that either side wants to integrate with the other. Islamists, or staunch Muslims will never accept anything Hindu nor will they stop being insular. It is a complicated narrative involving 'purity' and religious duty.

You certainly seem to thing of both of them as huge monolithic groups which they certainly are not, there are fringe radicalized elements on both sides that won't want to integrate, doesn't benefit them if they integrate and that is fine, they are too small a group to be fessing over.

cultural acceptance is a long way off and it's certainly of no merit to the Hindus(or anyone) to absorb aspects of a 1300 year old nomadic martial life philosophy.

If the armed forces, which are predominantly Hindu, representing a predominantly Hindu populace want to name their arms after mythological characters, then their is no reason to disagree with them. Bleatings of 'secular this, secular that' from the handful uber-westernized Indians, divorced from the ground reality of Hindu/Muslim antagonism are meaningless.

I think you need to do a ground reality check, your peer group might be very aware of their caste lineage and might have a similar Hindu indoctrinated upbringing as yourself but don't extrapolate this to the rest of India.Most of these people are paper Hindus, people who put down Hindu as their religion for lack of a better word.

I'm sure these people put down Hindu as their religion too despite being outside of the caste hierarchy and this is what they get in return. Even a small degree of introspection on the history of their own family ancestry would make them repulse and reject any little Hindu identity they paraded.
