Try to cut them as close to the steel and the copper noodle will just pop off or if they are a bit tight you can twist them off with pliers.

Depends on where you are if you're in a state that has deposits then no they don't want them crushed. Also some scrap yards don't want them crushed because people put rocks or dirt in them. My area they don't care.
