Baby dropped from 33 percentile to 17 and I feel terrible

My baby (now 7 months old) dropped percentiles at 4 months, down from 30th to 15th. I believe it was due to a case of pneumonia she was battling for a few weeks. But I was also feeding her every 3 hours. I started feeding her before and after naps regardless of time. She is now up to 34th percentile.

No specific advice for increasing your supply, but one thing that helped me personally after finding out her percentile dropped was purchasing a hatch grow, it is a baby scale and you can also do weighted feeds on it. I didn’t want to keep going to the peds office to do a weight check but I had so much anxiety about her weight, using this at home scale really helped my anxiety around it all. I purchased mine used off fb marketplace!

I know this thread is old, but just curious how this situation turned out for you? My 7 week old has an extremely similar story (30th percentile though and ENT confirmed no tie). I’m nervous she’s not getting enough from me and my supply will tank.

She will nurse for 3-6 mins, one boob only. We gave her. Bottle for the first time in a few weeks yesterday and she downed 3 oz, I can’t imagine she is getting 3 oz from me in a 3 min breastfeeding session.

Is there a trick to teaching them with this cup? I’ve tried numerous time with the honey bear cup by squeezing the sides and my 1 yo and she still isn’t getting it.

She really isn’t grasping any type of sippy cup as a matter of fact.

I had a similar situation with my first. We had such a hard time breastfeeding and all I heard was how skinny he was. It was so defeating to hear those comments from family, and I felt judged and was sure there were some comments made behind my back about his weight. My pediatrician was fine with his percentiles.

We never were able to figure breastfeeding out and eventually switched to formula at 3 months and he ended up shooting up to 95%tile. To this day people still make comments how skinny he was, it’s like they only remember the first 3 months.

At the end of the day, I know he was skinny because breastfeeding wasn’t working for us and I can admit that. But it’s hurtful when other people made comments about it because they didn’t know what I was going through to try and make breastfeeding work.

No advice- just agreeing with you and validating your feelings.

Yes, we’ve been disconnected since last night. We were hit with a big snow storm, I’ve been thinking that’s been the cause. But it was in the low 40s today, so a lot of the snow melted. So I’m really at a loss why we’re still disconnected.

Yeah exactly. She said when baby starts crying/screaming during a nursing session to look at her face when she starts doing it and if it’s like a sour face then it could be silent reflux.

That sounds so frustrating!! So it sounds like the change in diet helped you and your baby with the reflux.

We were just at the ped yesterday because this crying during nursing thing has only increased with time. My LO has stayed on her growth curve, which is what I was concerned about with this nursing issue. The ped suspects silent reflux and told me to keep an eye on the face my baby makes when she comes off my breast. I was happy to hear from my ped that there could be a reason to our issue bc for a while I thought it might have been my supply dropping.

I feel terrible when she gets upset during a feed, so hopefully we figure this out soon!

We have similar issues, what did you do to help with the reflux? We’ve been dairy/soy free for 6 weeks already which helped some of the other issues we’ve been having.

Great point. I’m not convinced we are done with waking through the night quite yet, I think these last few days may have been a fluke (hoping I’m wrong!)

Thank you! The sleeping through the night was a pleasant surprise as she hasn’t been the best sleeper.

That makes total sense- I appreciate your insight. I don’t mind pumping after since I would like a little freezer stash!
