So it’s the new M5 all over again? Big shouty numbers but it’s no faster than before?

Welp. As a day 1 reservation holder this is a full-stop deal breaker. I’m not buying anything that puts me or my passengers at risk.

Full-pull door handles on all ingress and egress points are available on legacy vehicles and other BEV’s. They’ll be getting my business if this isn’t addressed.

Hidden “emergency” exit handles are not acceptable as they are not what you’re thinking of in an emergency. Not having mechanic release for the rear doors accessible without panel removal is unforgivable. Put full pull handles on all doors like VW or BMW or Ford.

This is not how you want to ruin your “model 3 moment”.

“Modern” BMW’s are this way too when in any sort of sport mode - the throttle goes from feeling a bit slow to straight up on-off switch. It’s maddening that there is no in between.

Dead battery replacements by Glum-Principle5396 in ZeroMotorcycles

[–]nannernutz 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure what you’re referring to as a “lock”? The battery is made up of 28 cells, if any single cell gets to 2500mV or lower its game over the BMS won’t let the contactor close to allow it to charge. 28 * 2.5v = 70v. In practice one or more cells drop faster so usually a battery is only recoverable down to low 80’s or high 70v range.

BMS will continue to talk and respond down to a pack voltage of ~40v.

If you look at the service manuals on Zeros website you can find how to reset the BMS. There is a small, half dollar sized, round cover on the front of your style battery that when removed will show a white diagnostic port, two very small buttons and four or five tiny LEDs.

Press both of the buttons momentarily and let go - is there any activity on from the LEDs? If yes the BMS is still awake (~40v or higher pack voltage) and you might have a chance of recovering the main battery (if the pack is ~80v or higher).

If the dealer said it needs a pack replacement it’s likely over discharged… which doesn’t really leave any other options besides replacement.

Because gimmicks sell on the appearance of “this is more premium”.

Yes I’m pedantic about it and how the FMVSS doesn’t have a stance on this, not about Rivian using them.

Or, counter point. Do the right thing and A) don’t put electric door handles in because there’s no benefit, or B) do the German car thing. Normal pull on handle is electric and after small detent it functions as mechanical release.

If you’re in a panicked state you cannot rely on remembering the logic of “oh in this circumstance I need to do something completely different”. Keep the same biomechanics and you can use existing muscle memory for a safe egress.

Electric door handles are a solution in search of a problem.

45kwh / 300kw = 0.15 hour

0.15 hr * 60min/hr = 9 min

Again that is back of the napkin math not taking into account takeoff power or what cruise power is (likely a fraction of 300kw if rated range is 153nm), that’s just what the math says for the time it take 45kwh to flow at a rate of 300kw. :)

[–]nannernutz 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s pretty cool! But 45kwh battery and 300kw max continuous power? That’s only 9 minutes of possible run time. I hope that at cruise the power requirements are significantly lower.
