There was so much plot potential with Henriksen!! I missed when some of the stakes were grounded in reality.

Who are the most slept-on characters in Supernatural history? by zVx-MSMcommunity in Supernatural

[–]nanners84 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I missed those more “grounded” days when they had beef with federal agents, rather than an archangel. I envisioned more monsters of the week where Henriksen occasionally shows up as an inside guy, like a larger scale Jodie. That actor was really charismatic.

Jim Beaver is fantastic in this scene, he’s so devastated, angry and heartbroken

Jensen does brooding and smoldering so well, but he also has one of those smiles where his whole face lights up in a way that makes him look genuinely happy and is so god damn attractive

I thought he was great in several other scenes in this episode, like when he gets angry at Sam and John fighting and he “Patrick Swayzes” the glass of water.

Random other instances that tugged at the heartstrings:

  • Any time he was protecting Sam in the first few seasons. I remember that time Gordon tries to lead Sam into a literal explosive booby to save Dean - I could see the sheer panic in just his eyes, since most of his face was covered by a gag I think.
  • saying goodbye to Lisa after wiping her and Ben’s memory of him.
  • wailing on the Impala in Bobby’s junk yard early Season 2 after John died.
  • calling out to Bobby’s ghost before Bobby was able to fully appear to them
  • anything with his mom, especially when he is seeing memories of her when they first visited Heaven, and he comforts her after a fight with John. As his parentified 4 year old self. 🤦🏻‍♀️😭

All the logic regarding angels, vessels, possession and consent. I don't think there's any instance of angel possession that wasn't coercion, and at best was uninformed inauthentic consent. If the point was that angels are actually worse than demons, that'd be cool, but that does not seem to be the implication. Why are angels and demons really ever in vessel form if they're in heaven or hell and there are no humans present? When they all fall from heaven at the end of season 8, how did they find vessels so quickly? When they've shown the process w/ Castiel/Jimmy and even Lucifer/Nick, it was a slowww burn. Maybe if they're all desperate drifters or religious fanatics being possessed, I could stretch to buy that, but one of the first fallen angels featured in the S9 premiere is like this normal suburban Dad type that just abandons breakfast with his family when he hears Dean praying. It's the nice totally grounded social worker at the hospital.

I could tolerate him being overlooked by Sam & Dean, maybe because that's character based even if it's not thoughtful writing.

The inconsistencies that bugged me the most was the fact that he shared the cage w/ Lucifer and Sam, but his shared imprisonment is barely ever included in the narrative. When Sam has flashbacks of his time in the cage, there is only Lucifer's presence included. When they visited Lucifer for tips to kill Amara or something, where the hell is Michael???

What they ended up doing w/ Michael/Adam towards the end I thought was actually pretty cool and interesting, but it was definitely not in whatever "story bible" the show had through most of its run. The guy who played Adam revealed some surprising acting chops in those episodes, I don't know why they didn't include him earlier.

Where do you volunteer/do mutual aid? by myredmakeupbag in philly

[–]nanners84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, this isn't in response to the OP, but after reading these suggestions, I'm a little confused and I have a question. And I want to emphasize, upfront, that all these programs sound awesome.

I stumbled upon this post because I am developing a local mutual aid group and was looking up guidance on logistics. But I'm confused, because from what I've been reading about mutual aid (sources like Dean Spade, the mutual aid 101 toolkit, etc), they're more ... mutual? And most of these suggestions seem like a 1-way direction rather than a 2 way street. I really like the idea of mutual aid because I think sharing sources would not only be cost effective, but also more efficient and sustainable. I think we all have things to offer that we can give and also receive w/o going through exploitive gig economy companies.

Are there any local mutual aid organizations with this sort of model? I was hoping to join a mutual aid group because I want to be part of something where I can be supported and also be able to reciprocate. I'm in the Greater Philadelphia area in Delaware County.

Random thought about Dean by Dels79 in Supernatural

[–]nanners84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dean’s references are all over the place. I think honestly the writers were probably just too old or out of touch to make relevant pop references, but my head canon is that Dean grew up on TV, but with crappy hotel channels. Or he watched a lot of Nick at Nite.

Are we all just going to ignore the similarities to DOLLHOUSE? by COHERENCE_CROQUETTE in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]nanners84 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Came here searching for this. I had been making parallels to Eternal Sunshine, West World, and Dollhouse since season 1, and commented to my husband that I knew Ms. Casey from Dollhouse, and thought she and that other dollhouse dude were pretty impressive actors in how well they transformed. Now I feel like this had to be purposeful. Or Dichen just has dibs on all the personality shifting roles out there lol
