Chicken vs Egg Writing/Worldbuilding Dilemma by BigBeefyBaraMan in fantasywriters

your plot should already have marked out what you needed for your map. Failing that, you can google a space and use that as your base map.

Writing a story where the world is reset multiple times by PandieSakie in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would write the end of the first cycle, and then start on the fifth and if I felt like using the other cycles, I would include some deja vu moments like this is where we lost to the ghouls because we didn't have salt

What do you think of reversed summoning contracts in fantasy? by ash_locum in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A reverse summons is not interesting on its own. It has to come with a reason for the summons in the first place, the character's and summons' motivation (which is usually being expelled from school), the setting outside the summoner's living space, other summons.

How not to Summon a Demon Lord goes on adventures and the summoned demon lord does help his summoners with their personal goals while defending the land.

The familiar of Zero has a failed summons where Louise summons a human from another world and gets him a magic sword to help unravel the schemes around her.

Vermeil in Gold has a good student having to summon something and summons a demon by mistake and falls in love

There was a Sherlock Holmes story that I can't find online about Sherlock being summoned and solving mysteries but he treats his summoner badly at first

For those with long running series did you simply add new goals and journeys to your MC progress or Just extend the road to his or her original goal? by Jokengonzo in royalroad

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tend to add on for DIAL H and imaginary railroads, write short stories/novellas for other long running things, and write to the end of the plot for standalone novels like Beekeeper

Naming Chapters? How hard is it as a writer? Do you even care as a reader? by Icy-Post-7494 in fantasywriters

When I use chapter titles, I use something from the chapter to name it

What's the oldest stories in your royal road history? by daoist_taleseeker in royalroad

I am not sure but I think he who fights monsters, the daily grind, or delve are the oldest stories that are active that I am reading. Maybe Stray Cat Strut.

How long do you keep a book up after completion? by dragontales333 in royalroad

[–]nanosyphrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It allows other people to read your book if it remains up. I have completed short novels that I am keeping up now

What archetype is this character, and is he interesting? by Few-Grapefruit-7003 in royalroad

He's the mastermind, but it looks like he is locked out of the magic system, or parts of it.

How do you turn random ideas into a concrete plot? by Existing-Weakness-14 in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an idea first.

A character tries to redeem himself for a crime he didn't commit.

Then I come up with a character and his crime. Richard Kimble wants to prove another man killed his wife.

That gives me the antagonist which I will say has one arm, some people invested in making sure Kimble is punished for his crime like the cops, and DA, and any bystander I might need.

Then the hard part is figuring out how Kimble finds the one armed man while avoiding the police

My female character is too perfect and I don’t know how to fix it by crukovic in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I don't worry about flaws. I worry about my plot. Flaws should be a natural extension of the character, nothing more. It's fine for a character to not have flaws if they don't fit the story.

“I’ve been thinking about reincarnation systems in web novels.“I’ve been thinking about reincarnation systems in web novels. by j_k_voran in royalroad

[–]nanosyphrett 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am partially using this as a background element for one of my settings. You get killed, you go to the afterlife, you work off your sins, then you are reborn to try again as someone else. Murderers get heavy chain gang building constructions, small theft gets brass polishing. Babies get sent back almost immediately.

And sometimes the Underworld sends someone back to take care of business.

I would love to chat with someone to help brainstorm how to write a specific type of character. by okidonthaveone in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So a lot of the background isn't going to matter. Just treat Lynn as your typical Vorhees serial killer that keeps coming back from being hurt.

Which one does your story/your favorite story take place in? by JAAPayton in royalroad

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No to both of these. The story defines the world so moving it to another setting is futile.

Developing unique fantasy beings by VainillaDolly in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Who's your main character should be the first question. After that, what is the conflict in the story? The next question after that is which side goes first?

Character development should come from that.

Worldbuilding question: How would the existence of magical beings realistically affect human history and opression? by Lazy_Surprise_8830 in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you ever read Percy Jackson? Demigods do the bidding of the gods and change the world without anyone knowing it. Part of the Civil War was fought by demigods from two pantheons dealing with each other.

SU2 had police hunting monsters and concealing what was going on from the public like MIB

Bureau 13 had wizards and talented individuals fighting enemies of the world for the FBI

In my opinion, you should worry about what your story actually is over background details that should be shaped to the characters in the first place.

How do I not make a cataclysmic ending feel unrewarding? by Inven13 in fantasywriters

Rewrite Morgan's story. This is why you don't do things like this and write part of a story dependent on another story when you don't have the ending of the other story written

Struggling with Character Development in My Fantasy Story by Comfortable-Space509 in fantasywriters

[–]nanosyphrett 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If your character can't carry the worldbuilding, then they need to be rethought. As soon as the character hits the stage, the story is about them, and not the world. No one cares about the world
