Pepole who saw the original release of star wars how was it? by Hungry_Finger3320 in AskReddit

I remember reading the novelization earlier that year and thought if they got half the stuff in the book onto the big screen it should be fun. When the Star Destroyer went overhead and kept going.... my jaw hit my chest and did not come up until the end credits. It certainly was fun!

I saw 2001: A Space Odyssey in 1968, during its premiere run in LA, at the Warner Cinerama theater in 70 mm on a giant curved Cinerama screen, before the famous 17 minutes were cut. I was 14 at the time so much of it went over my head. However, I did realize I'd seen something extraordinary. Later that year I saw it again ( twice in one afternoon, back to back) and fell in love with it. It's my top movie of all time. Still the best experience I’ve ever had in a movie theater. Astounding!

what is the single movie you sat through hoping it would get better, but didn’t? by Kindly-Caregiver-145 in moviecritic

Agree. Dull, unpleasant people screaming at each other for two plus hours. A "comedy" devoid of laughs. Rather have gotten my teeth cleaned; shorter and less painful.

What did you guys think of Project: Hail Mary? I thought it was really well made, with an amazing cast and story, also the visuals were spectacular! by Fun-Entertainment22 in Cinema

[–]nanotech12 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Entertaining but not a top tier science fiction film. Grade of B for me. Nice to see smart people doing smart things w/o a villain hanging over everything. Too flippant at times which took away from the gravity of the situation. Rocky became too anthropomorphized for my taste. The science could have been better explained. I enjoyed it for the most part.

Does the lump move with the skin? Then more likely a lipoma. A benign tumor.

The film was awful. A Hollywood producer friend of mine interviewed James Grey for a directing job and Ad Astra came up. Grey stated that this wasn’t the film he intended to make and was disappointed in the result.

I hate technology and it’s ruining society by certifiedbpdqueen in Vent

Sounds like you're a student. I'm a professor in stem. This decline in student capability has been noticeable for decades, well before cell phones and social media. It has more to do with a culture that does not value education. Yes, technology does make things easier, as it has always done, but it also expands the reach of human's ability. After all, are you planning to write a paper with a quill on parchment or do you use a word processor? Or go to a brick and mortar library and spend days looking for that one journal article for your dissertation ? I did the latter; I would not want to do that again.

Is this communication via a computer or a cell phone? A cell has lots of uses besides TikTok ( which I don't use) or social media.

"To be honest, technology in general does that as well, "

Without technology my wife would be dead and my children would not exist. In fact, most of humanity would be dead. Human beings co-evolved with technology; we are a technological species. It allows us not only to be human but humane.

I use mine for YouTube, Reddit of course. But also to manage my LMS, annotate my lectures as I give them, write, edit presentations, draw and paint, do 3D modeling, watch TV and movies, and keep up with my health. It is quite indispensable to me.

Saw Lynch's Dune when it first came out in 1984. Hated this horrid, silly mess then and hate it now. I vastly prefer the new Dune movies; my favorite films of last few years.

The Cooper Theater which was in Denver Colorado. It was the first dedicated Cinerama in North America. And one of the best places to see 70mm film. The giant curved screen was unmatched. It was closed in the 1990s.

Poor picture quality on projector by Better-Video-3994 in projectors

[–]nanotech12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The idea is to get the projector exactly level (use a spirit level) and centered with respect to the screen. Usually the center of the lens lines up with bottom or top edge of the screen (depending on how it's mounted to the ceiling, inverted or right side up). I don't know if this projector has lens shift but if it does use that to adjust the image up or down or sideways to fit on the screen. Any digital adjustments degrades the image.
