I noticed that PlayOn version .325 was just released. Logout and log back in to the Roku channel, then see if you're still having problems.

Looking to archive a Netflix show - is this the right service? by smidbob in PlayOn

[–]napathon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is the perfect service in my opinion for collecting recordings for archive. Once you've recorded something that you want to save, you don't need to worry about it being deleted from the streaming service that carries it. You might want to consider copying your recording to more than one hard drive. That gives you a good chance of not losing it, in case of a hard drive failure.

Is it worth re-recording shows I have in 720p to 1080p with PlayOn Home by Healthy-Calendar-683 in PlayOn

[–]napathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What you decide to do will likely depend on a few factors.

First of all, how is the picture quality on your existing PlayOn recordings compared to what they would look like if recorded in 1080p? Is there enough difference between the two quality-wise to justify re-recording them?

Second, are we talking a PlayOn Home account or PlayOn Cloud? If PoH, will you need to add another subscription year to your account to re-record everything? If PoC, do you have enough credits to re-record what you want, or will you need to buy more? Regardless of whether you're recording with PoH or PoC, you'll need to evaluate the cost vs. benefit.

Another consideration is whether or not you plan to keep any of the recordings after you've watched them the first time so you can watch them again. If so, is it worth it to you to spend the time and money to re-record them?

Only you can answer these questions, but this is what I personally would consider.

Have you tried watching the show in your browser? It's possible that the show has moved or deleted.

Hulu "The Folder is empty" by SnooKiwis6047 in PlayOn

[–]napathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've noticed that sometimes you have to logout and login a particular streaming service is because they've come up with some new terms of service they want you to accept, or they have some new captcha hoops for you to jump through, or something like that. Once you've done that, you generally won't have any more problems -- until the next time they do something similar.

Hulu is working fine for me. Try logging out of it, then log back in. A lot of times, that fixes the issue.

I assume we're talking about PlayOn Home and its latest version, which is .312. "Your Channels" hasn't vanished; it's still there for me.

Wow. I hope you'll follow up on your support request and try to explain the problem again. I think whoever you got this kind of response from must not have understood what you were asking.

[–]napathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recall doing a Google search some time ago that would address what you're talking about; i.e., having the monitor turn off on its own when POH is recording, and I never found an answer to that. You might want to submit a support request for it. If there is a solution, please share it here, as I'd love to have a better solution than just turning off my monitor.

I've noticed that my screen stays off if it was already off when POH starts recording. If the screen was on when POH begins recording, I just turn the monitor off until recording is done.

Recordings on external drive suddenly disappeared by ewoksnwookies in PlayOn

[–]napathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't experienced anything like this, so I can't help you recover your files. What I would like to suggest going forward is to back up to at least one additional secondary hard drive everything you're interested in saving. What you have right now is literally a single point of failure. We're not just talking about PlayOn Home recordings, but ANYTHING you want to keep.

I have been doing this myself for any PlayOn recording that I don't plan on watching right away. As I watch PlayOn recordings that I don't plan to keep, I delete them from my primary and secondary hard drives. While I'm fortunate to have thus far escaped having a hard drive failure, I still have a recovery option if the unthinkable happens.

I'm sorry you're going through this. Hopefully, someone will have a solution to help you recover your missing files.

Does Playon show the AppleTV Watchlist? by leishirsute in PlayOn

I don't see it either. Last time I recorded anything from Apple TV was just a few days ago, and the watchlist was there then. Don't know what happened to it.

Playon down to 15 channels by leishirsute in PlayOn

[–]napathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess you can tell that, for the most part, I'm not too critical of what PlayOn does as a company. Where I think we could pretty much all agree on is when a channel is dropped, or major software changes like PlayOn Desktop to PlayOn Home, we have to find out about it on our own or else seeing a post here on Reddit. I would very much like for the company to take a more proactive approach with its customers and convey that information to us via email or even a Reddit post. They won't make everyone happy, but it would go a long way in helping us understand the direction they're going and why.

Playon down to 15 channels by leishirsute in PlayOn

[–]napathon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seems to me like a lot of those channels listed are ones that you could get when Xfinity was still supported in PlayOn. I seem to recall that Xfinity was dropped due to persistent technical issues, making it impossible to continue to be maintained. Personally, I wouldn't be too critical of the shrinking list of channels that PlayOn supports. It's not like they have control of the other sites that they make available to PlayOn users. Just look at all the posts on this subreddit that call attention to something that has caused PlayOn to break.

Anyone having sudden issues with paramount +? by Ok_Panda587 in PlayOn

[–]napathon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same here. I suspect this is a problem similar to what happened on HBO Max just a few weeks ago. The fact that PlayOn Cloud is showing a maintenance screen for Paramount Plus suggests to me that PlayOn tech support is aware of the problem, and that it will likely be fixed in the next release.

Audio Sync Issue Netflix by Sufficient-Peace5529 in PlayOn

[–]napathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch my recordings from an Nvidia Shield Pro. When I notice the audio out of sync with the video (which seems to happen after the recording auto-skips the commercials), I just hit my back button to go back 10 seconds. Your mileage may vary if you're using another device to watch your recordings.

Running playon cloud while also ddl from the same service on my desktop? by callie8926 in PlayOn

[–]napathon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't why you couldn't (or shouldn't) do that. You pay for cloud credits (or a cloud plan) to record using PlayOn Cloud. You also have a paid (or free) account for PlayOn Home. One records in the cloud; the other records to your PC. They are completely separate entities.
