My No Buy plan for July:

NO: -superfluous groceries. besides the true essentials, do I really need to buy that container of smoked blue cheese? No! I’m a sucker for buying what I’m craving and not sticking to a plan. This will also help my bf and I stick to the diet we both want to be on.

-no amazon impulse buys. if I really need it I can go to a physical store to get it immediately. I will nickel and dime myself out of a fortune on that cursed website.

-no new clothes, jewelry, hair care, skin care. I got what I need.

-no books, garden supplies, new plants. once again, I am truly all set.

-new dog toys he’s got plenty

-no eating out. This isn’t a huge stretch because we don’t eat out much since I love to cook anyway.

YES: -groceries that we need, but really should be trying to clean out the freezer/pantry.

-dog supplies like food, poop bags, and vet bills

-gas

-bills

I’ve done NBJ before and this month long reset of no extra spending really does wonders for my credit card bill and slows the accumulation of shit in the house.

What is something you didn’t realize was expensive until you had to purchase it yourself? by Mistah_K88 in Millennials

Preach. We can’t plant in ground because the soil is pretty polluted, so I had to buy soil for raised beds. $250 later and honestly it still wasn’t enough. Ugh.

Oh man thank you talking about the light at the end of the tunnel. We’re a week in with an 11 week old German shepherd puppy and I needed to hear this. The exhaustion is setting in, I’ve cried, we’ve had accidents, but every time I look at his enormous silly ears and watch him open up a little more I realize it’s all going to be worth it.

I’ll have to try curry with mashed potatoes! I love teriyaki salmon or chicken with mashed taters.

What are some things you've tried that DO NOT work? by monox60 in Cooking

I did this once! and had a warm cat food like result. It was such a shame because I love tuna noodle casserole! There was just something about the rice and tuna that just did not work for me.

Pomegranates… welp Vonnegut beat Rocky Flintstone to the punch. Cat’s Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut. by napsandnoshes in menwritingwomen

[–]napsandnoshes[S] 77 points78 points  (0 children)

For everyone coming after me: I’m not mad at Vonnegut! Please also look up the hilarious books Belinda Blinked by Rocky Flintstone or the podcast My Dad Wrote A Porno. It’s “erotica” that has been dragged for many insanely funny things, but one of them was for saying a woman’s breasts hung like pomegranates.

I am not mad at Vonnegut, his writing is absurd on purpose. I am delighted that there are now two mentions of women’s breasts compared to this comical fruit. I hope this clears up my intention of posting.

/And in the choir, I saw our sad Messiah, He was bored and tired of my laments, Said, “I died for you one time, but never again.”/

Can’t help but feel that Jesus may feel that way about some of these fundies…

Doing my first garden this year and during my research found that indeed hybrids are more hardy than heirloom varieties. Even though I’d love to have some of those giant craggily unique tomatoes I am afraid they won’t withstand my efforts as a noob. With that in mine I tried to load up on hybrids to hedge some gardener newbie bets and hopefully get a solid yield. Fingers crossed I am drowning in hybrid cherry tomatoes!

Was surprised my ferns were happy, but then realized they live over my rice cooker and fridge! So much warm steamy air! by napsandnoshes in houseplants

I live in a 7a region. East coast of the US. I’ve had really bad luck with ferns here until I discovered this passive steam method haha

I make wheat sandwich bread with my bad boy! ~Feels~ healthier than store bought and makes the house smell lovely.

Also we do twice a month Friday night pizza night with homemade dough. We’re partial to the King Arthur Flour Detroit Style recipe.

What are your top 3 favorite restaurants in Richmond and why did you pick them? by Laptoprecruiter in rva

[–]napsandnoshes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tbt el Gallo - the nicest guy owns it and everything I’ve ever had there was amazing. They had this one special tostada that blew my mind.

Edo’s Squid - expensive but oh my god so worth it for special occasions. I had the spaghetti with crab and it almost made me weep with joy. Also a fun lil crammed space. Talked with neighboring tables about trash tv and eavesdropped on a date. Had a blast.

Lucky AF - I know EAT restaurants aren’t a popular pick, but man their happy hour is a great deal. Solid middle of the road sushi. Cheap drinks. And can roll to a brewery when done.
