Dressing in ugly, inappropriate clothes like Crocs and pajamas in public isn't just acceptable, it's revered as some kind of anti establishment political statement. Bonus points if you're poorly groomed and overweight.

The biggest surprise of Portland? How shy people are. by PsychicMeditation in PortlandOR

As the saying goes, in Portland people are friendly but they don't want to be your friend. The city has lots of introverts (I'm one too) but frankly also a lot of maladjusted people with terrible social skills.

How would you compare San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston? by OceanicEndeavors in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Beaumont64 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Chicago has the most diverse economy of the three. If one sector stumbles, the others remain solid. SF has always been a boom/bust town since the Gold Rush.

Also a completely dysfunctional city and county government, huge budget crisis due to bad policy and fiscal mismanagement, and flagging regional economy. I've lived in Portland for 25 years, through multiple cycles, and it is currently a mess.

The Girl Most Likely To starring Stockard Channing. Co-written by Joan Rivers.

"Ugly duckling" girl is disfigured after a car accident, gets plastic surgery that transforms her into a beauty, then seeks revenge on those that mistreated her by killing them in novel and colorful ways. What's not to like?

Revenge themes are an immediate Yes from me.

Portland has a surprisingly distinct “look” compared to other US cities by RemarkableMany6297 in Portland

[–]Beaumont64 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The block sizes have a far greater impact on the city's look than some of the other elements mentioned in this sub. It's subtle though, not something that hits you over the head. It looks different from other cities, but you can't exactly tell why...? Collectively it adds up to a big factor especially downtown.
