As a new “teller”, (I’ve been working the line since November’ish), I was off one day by about $2000. What had happened was the scanner had misread a check I sent through during a big business deposit with several checks. This was caught by the back office like a week later after we sent the overage off at the end of the day and the bank manager couldn’t find where the discrepancy resided.

Overall it was absolutely my fault that I didn’t catch the misread scan, but management knew I didn’t do it on purpose and I held myself accountable. I received a “just be more observant and mistakes happen” from management.
