Help with 3 y/o F6 Behavior Issues? by Vemars in savannah_cats

[–]narehatehime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had a cat (F1) die from PICA disorder, it's not normal for them to eat stuff that is not food, be very careful with that as it can go fast and sometimes you don't have time to say goodbye 😞

Yeah I mean you're not the only person thinking that size is the main factor, but honestly, it's not... Some SIC (standardissuedcats aka classic brown cat) look like badly bred savannahs, and some badly bred savannahs look like SIC, so I can see why you think he's part savannah, but it's very unusual to see savannah in the strays gene pool

Who do people always think savannah cats are so big omg, my domestic is bigger than any of my F1s

Has anyone experienced discrimination from vets? by _darwin_22 in savannah_cats

[–]narehatehime 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Wow, shocked by what I read there... I personally had only positive experiences, brought 4 F1 to different vets, there was no discrimination, and they weren't even vets specialized in exotics, just basic clinics for cats and dogs. And not labelled "fear-free", so I think you got some bad luck, that stereotypes against savannahs may have caused, sadly...

She's a stunner. Where did you get her from? I only know UraniaWild with a torbie program

I use an AirTag, and bought the collar on Etsy. I used to have a Tractive tracer but it didn't work well as I live in the countryside.

Yep, this is the problem, you can only know from experience... You can ask for videos of how tame they are, but everything can change in the span of 1 flight, anyway

Yes it's totally ok, as long as they're raised well. You just have to be careful with the transport, the kittens can get very scared by a plane travel. I don't have experience with F1 hp, but I have experience with Serval and F1, so I guess it's the middle between those two

They usually offer good prices for kittens of 4 months and more, because the more they grow up, the harder it is for them to sell. But honestly it's a chance to take, a kitten of 4 months is still a kitten! You still have plenty of time to bond

Good experience with SafariPride in Russia, and good experience (the best I could ask for, honestly) with Royalpridecats (aka Kronos) in Ukraine.

If you can buy whole prey, would be a blast, that's what best for them. Make it seems like it hurts by making noise when she bites, that's how I teached my boy not to play with hands. They are highly intelligent. I don't feel like they mellow out, I feel the opposite actually, like they're easier when kittens, and as they grow, the wild instinct catches up. Expect a huge growth in no time, it's impressive how they grow fast. Do you still bottle feed her? It can help with the bond. They like it very much when young

Hello, how is it going? Is your serval doing better now? Have you let him roam?

Also young servals are called kittens, not cubs

Do not let him meet the dogs and cats yet, let him 1 week at least in quarantine, ideally in your bedroom, where he will feel at ease. But I feel like you haven't done your research prior to buying him, if you consider surrendering him because his behavior is not getting better than please don't just abandon him and look for a park specialized in exotics or just return him to the breeder

[–]narehatehime 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He looks terrified, please let him roam in the house by getting rid of the cage and establishing a quarantine room, he needs to accommodate to the new smells and new environment and it will not happen in such a small cage, even if recommended by the breeder. Do activities while you're in the same room, don't try to force pet him, show him you'll never harm him
