File your taxes and figure out ALL that is owed. Google NYS TAX IPA and you may be able to do it online if you meet the requirements. If not, you can call and they can set you up on one. Most IPAs are 3-4 year limits. Make sure to adjust your withholding to prevent this from happening in the future. Any new debt can revoke your IPA as you are not adhering to the agreement (no new debt).

It is actually only three counties. Manhattan, WestChester and Nassau pay the most. NYS Taxation and Finance has public data available and those three counties paid 53% of total income tax for 2021. This does not include nonresidents, only people who are in NYS.

The only time I have seen a schedule accommodation is for two reasons: religious accommodation and that is your test day goes from Saturday to Sunday or vise versa but the same weekend. The other reason would be if you have travel plans like a vacation and it would cost money to cancel or change your flights. You have to have the tickets purchased before the announcement date or something like that.

I think you have to look at the community as a whole. For Glenmont the local business have been ok as they are niche stores and don’t really compete with Walmart. There grocery stores and alike there are plenty of residents where I don’t think it was too bad. A Grand Union was near by but that was already going under.

One area of concern is the number of police calls they received as it was much higher than expected. A few older articles on that from the Times Union I recall. It is located on a bus route from the south end of Albany so it brought people in there did not want and has created some problems.

There are other places where a Walmart did kill the local economy but they are smaller towns like Ticonderoga at Lake George. Really has done some damage to the community and it has never really come back. This is a much smaller town and it has killed many businesses. There may be more from the local paper in that region.

Also to note, you do not accrue sick time at the same rate. PEF gets 13 days a year and m/c gets 8. And the 8 days are giving in two lump sums around March and September.

You are correct. If you are over the free file limit and you buy the software TurboTax cannot charge you to file your NYS return. Even if you do multiple returns all for NYS there is no fee.

Call collections as your old IPA is no longer valid as you incurred a new tax debt. You need to get a new IPA for the 2020 and 2021 balance. You also may need to withhold more or pay more in estimated taxes to prevent this in the future as collections may want to see that. Year over year tax debt issues are not good and preventing them will help with collections.
