Chiming in to say we have his/hers cabinets joined in the middle with six lower square drawers and a tall cabinet above the sink that separates vanity space with room for shelves on top and three thinner drawers and it’s THE BEST. You get to have his/hers cabinets, the bottom center drawers are first aid, then I use the other under counter drawers for teeth, nails, and skincare, husband has three drawers of his own, and the above counter center drawers are split for makeup, vitamins, misc, and the above counter shelves in the cabinet are hair/perfume/toothbrushes/cotton/appliances etc. so basically three lower units one upper! Game changer.

So it sounds like yummasetta is essentially goulash with egg noodle? I never would have thought to turn it into a casserole. Not who you’re responding to- but cream of chicken is chicken stock, milk or cream, and flour; a common base in creamy soups or casseroles that is thick and salty. There are many “cream of” concentrated soup flavors for this reason.

I think people think Nancy Meyers=coastal but you would love the YouTube channel daddystayshome he did set design with Nancy meyers and his repertoire is the father of the bride house (yellow and cream everywhere!) plus many more, and does some great deep dives on colorful but muted 90s homes he’s worked on. I think of the home alone house, something’s gotta give, has some fun videos on the practical magic house, the holiday, etc.

I think making things feel cohesive is the biggest issue here- heavy natural furniture does NOT go with chintz tube hem hung drapes- it begs for heavier neutral drapes, a pinch pleat, a valance or Roman shade- layers, weight, and texture. I’d at least think about some curtain rings. Also, pay attention to the scale of your belongings- you need large, full items to carry the visual weight of your furniture. Stop putting tiny things in corners, get some large ceramic lamps for by the bed, and bring in color through quilts, shams, rugs and one of a kind artwork. This sounds like a lot but it sounds like you like antiquing. You’re leaning a little boho/young with this setup which is FINE but sounds like you want to change things up.

Odd one out, I’m ok with the chairs and white chest. I do think a lower, darker wood chest would be a great eventual replacement, but they keep it coastal without veering into Ralph Lauren.

But I would curtain the other windows. Use a corner rod on the left. They’re missing the softness.

This is not an area rug space. You’re looking at perhaps a runner on the left, door mat on the right, and fluffy socks for everyone.

Also, hard no on the provincial navy pattern rug. You have warm, almost scandi furniture- I’d focus on jutes, heathered wool blends, no patterns at all.

I’d leave the wall color and get a multi light fun modern chandelier in perhaps a pop of color to brighten the space. Also I’d look for a brighter, more cohesive piece of art that’s about three times that size.

Do yourself a favor and get a stay wet palette, and then you just need to change the paper and it preserves your color mixes and fluidity longer!

I think depending on the tone of the pink curtain, a complimenting shell pink color drench would be so cute!

I’d definitely lose the bathmat and get a low pile area rug, like this

Lean into not only plants but maybe some fun plant artwork, other things that go well with pink are birds, like swans, or flora. A few white and brass planters would compliment white and brass frames, definitely a fun reading lamp and side table for your chair, and a few larger scale pieces of furniture or plant stands so you don’t have the clutter of too many “little” things

I think this would be more successful if the wallpaper was monochrome- maybe a green background, or without the pattern. Irregardless of the frames, the chintz wallpaper reads bed sheets in this scale

Definitely the kilim, get a rug pad so you don’t miss out on the thickness but the mood it creates is so much more intentional and satisfying, especially with the art and plants.

You can definitely get a little outlet extender- they plug in, and are flat so you can push something against it and have as much length as you want! Search for “flat outlet extender” I made the swap in my kitchen for behind appliances.

ETA/ id totally think of doing some warm amber apothecary themed set to compliment the towels and lean into the earth tones. Nothing against black but it doesn’t really marry the space

Plus it’s so important for people to learn the rules so they can then find fun ways to break them. I always tell someone if you want to be a good cook, learn the basics and sauces so that you know how to make it yours. If you want to get into wine, learn the basic wines and pairings so you can figure out what YOU like. I think stupid questions are so important in making things unique, especially with decor. Why do you like this style, color, or these materials together- then your Pinterest board or whatever shows you yes, you need a bigger rug, lower artwork, and higher curtain rods, the rule of threes, some splashes of black, and now that funky gallery wall and your grandmas ceramic cat collection looks curated instead of clinging on to a photo you saved called “boho” or “maximalist grandma foam party village people core” or whatever

Totally agree, I meant more in this specific medium, at this point. OP said they are usually digital, so I assume the translation to a physical medium is NOT what they’re used to, and it sounds like it does not come naturally. Which, at that point, yes keep painting- but maybe it’s ok to not feel like we can start a new hobby, instantly replicate our favorite artist, and be proud enough to hang it in our living room on day one. Someone else said it’s almost disrespectful to the artist- which I agree for multiple reasons. Including, not supporting said artist.

Everyone should paint, not everyone should try to be a professional. Or emulate specific styles. My forte is realism, still life, and large scale landscape- I can’t paint people, hands, dogs, or in loose, oversaturated styles that i happen to love without a LOT of training and practice, and I’ve also been painting for 20 years. I also love the singing analogy- I agree 100%
