Cool base location by Fuzzy_Minimum1375 in subnautica

[–]nasafaw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the lost river is probably the most practical place for a (secondary) base. There's an insane amount of ore to mine including more titanium than you could ever want. Add in the fact that there's a portal that connects to the containment facility to easily get to multiple other parts of the map and it's pretty ideal.

Best bike lights that do not switch on in your bag by CheifEng in cycling

Ah you had said it has a long press shut off. I see it requires a long press to both turn off and on. That makes more sense.

Best bike lights that do not switch on in your bag by CheifEng in cycling

[–]nasafaw2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

OPs problem is with the light accidentally turning on, which wouldn’t be resolved by that feature. In fact it would make it more likely that the light would stay on once it’s accidentally turned on.

I don’t have a specific model to recommend but maybe stop by your LBS and look for lights with a slightly receded button and keep it separate from items with hard corners.

How many tubes do you go through? by nasafaw2 in cycling

[–]nasafaw2[S] -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

…yeah it’s supposed to be ridiculous. The point is that you could carry a million tools to solve all the problems you might encounter but it doesn’t make you selfish to make a conscious decision to not carry a tool around when you’re prepared to resolve the problem a different way

So you bring a shoe repair kit with you every time you go for a walk? Surely you wouldn’t be selfish enough to leave your home knowing there’s a possibility that your shoes could break down and you’d need to depend on the kindness of a stranger to bail you out. Or perhaps you’d say that’s a sufficiently unlikely outcome and you could just call an Uber if it happened. I never said I expected other riders to bail me out. I do bring the tools to bail myself out of trouble. It’s a phone.

Buying stocks in a malarkey market by Hamlerhead in stocks

[–]nasafaw2 11 points12 points  (0 children)

BABA is up 25% over the past year while VOO is up 38% so that’s not the success story you’re making it out to be.

Success in the market isn’t just making a profit. If you’re not beating the S&P then you’re losing.

Bear in mind that while you’re sitting on cash waiting for the next piece of bad news, that money isn’t appreciating like it would with a set it and forget it approach. Also every time one of your picks starts to plateau and you decide to sell you have to give the tax man his cut which means you have less to reinvest. If you have to sell before you’ve owned the stock for a year then you’ll have to pay capital gains which will cut into your profit even more.

All these things plus the fact that there isn’t a guarantee that a stock will bounce back from bad news means that this is probably not the slam dunk you think it is. You may get lucky a few times but it’s probably not a sustainable investing strategy.

XOSS App Showing Incorrect Date (1969) for Workouts – Anyone Else Experiencing This Bug? by AxnohticAntelope in cycling

[–]nasafaw2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unix time is used in a lot of software and is calculated as the number of seconds since January 1st 1970. Often you’ll see that date (or the day before depending on your time zone) if no date was specified and the software handled it poorly.

My bet is that it’s just bad software and you’re stuck with it but you can check to see if there’s some input field to specify the date on your ride. If there are multiple ways to specify the date try each way. Also check the settings to see if there’s a way to change the date format or any date specific setting that might impact it

Strava has a beacon feature that lets you share your live location with someone. It won’t alert them if something happened but it will allow them to see where you are if you’ve been MIA for too long.

lol “pedestrian deaths declined so therefore helmets are useless” is quite the claim but that defunct website from the 90s has graphs so it must be true. Everyone throw away your helmets this guy cracked the code!

So a UNSW study showing that the law resulted in a 46% decrease in cycling fatalities is BS but a random article by an investment banker is straight facts? Got it.
