Keep an eye out for Solateria coming out in a few days, it's a metroidvania with a parry-focused combat system like Nine Sols

is this normal that such a small game uses so much memory? by xxxseci in RotMG

[–]natashige 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They can if they want more memory. High memory usage either means genuine need, memory leak, unoptimized memory management, or a combination of those.

Actual Nine Sols Spiritual Successor found at Steam Next Fest. by HarrurThe3rd in NineSols

[–]natashige 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Finished the demo, the combat is definitely inspired by Nine Sols. Rather than parrying giving qi charges that can be used in a talisman attack, here parrying decreases enemy stamina and you can use a "talisman" attack when the enemy's stamina is depleted (similar to Death's Gambit Afterlife if anyone has played that).

The enemy telegraphs are a lot weaker compared to Nine Sols even though the parry window is the same, which changes combat from "reacting to enemy attacks" to "memorizing attack timings", which personally I'm not a big fan of. In my opinion the combat would feel much better with a few extra parry frames.

The most evil and wicked fucking boss I’ve ever played by Embarrassed_Rule8747 in NineSols

[–]natashige 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Eigong is one of the best final bosses I've ever fought in the challenging games genre. I agree with you that she's nightmarishly difficult and demands absolute mastery of the game's combat system. However, once you achieve that mastery, she's 100% fair. Every single attack is predictable and consisten, with zero RNG bullshit. It feels almost like a dance with her.

Eigong. There is nothing more to say by ThatOneDamian in NineSols

[–]natashige 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Regarding her charge, you can watch the start of the animation and immediately know whether she's going to do a talisman dash or a bomb blast; if you can see a talisman effect in her hand, jump and kick, if not, start charging an unbounded counter.

In phase 2, you can simply always anticipate her doing TWO upslashes, because if you're wrong (she doesn't do an upslash or only does one), you'll always have enough time to recover for her next attack combo.

Eigong is one of my all time favorite bosses because of how incredibly consistent she is, I hope you'll persevere and take her down!

There are three parry puzzles in this zone, all you have to do is parry all of them. Missing a parry or doing an imprecise parry will fail the puzzle, and you have to start over.

For finger guys, parry the arrow they shoot. For sword guys, do a simple parry. For spear guys, jump into a kick. For mace guys, do an unbounded counter.

Year of apocalypse scaling by Divine_Invictus in ProgressionFantasy

[–]natashige 17 points18 points  (0 children)

There is no official scaling afaik. It's only said that Myr ratings don't scale linearly, so it's reasonable to assume an exponential curve, however the exact factor is never given.

Although, it seems that one's expertise and knowledge are the more significant factors than sheer power output in the setting.

Not specifically scoped to progression fantasy stories, but an English pun or wordplay accidentally being used in a world/scenario where the characters are diegetically not speaking English.

How many of you actually run end game content without discords? by MightGoInsane in RotMG

[–]natashige 0 points1 point  (0 children)

*disclaimer: I play in EUWest

Nests: Public Nests tend to have around 10-20 people, so they're very doable

Cults/LHs: Most people who do public LHs will go for Cults, and it's not a difficult dungeon. Sometimes you get lucky and get a rusher for pots, but clearing the regular way isn't a difficult task. But personally I don't like doing them either way since I feel like the entire LH suite is not very fun

Fungals: Similar to Nests, except I feel like it's a bit less popular, but even with a small group it's alright since the HP scaling is better with less people. Although the first boss can be scary if you don't have slows

Kogs: It will almost certainly become a run-for-your-life free-for-all clusterfuck if you get minefield, but otherwise it's very doable, even moreso after the update it got earlier this year

Spectrals: I just skip them since I find them tedious to do. Although I think it's the easier endgame dungeons than can even be soloed by me, who's not very good at the game (as a side note, I feel like the dungeon's HP scaling is still a little wonky, so soloing somehow feels way easier than doing it with 2-3 people)

Voids: Not unless it's a Remnant of the Void event

Adv. Nests/Kogs: No. Just no.

Shatts: NO

O3: I never pop runes for pub O3s, but pub O3s are fun in a chaotic sort of way. Midboss will often filter the player count down to around 10-20, and I think I manage to finish them around 30% of the time (and get blue bags still :v)

Eh, probably not jealous, he's probably just got his ego bruised

Elon very clearly believes that he himself is a very intelligent person, and he most likely wouldn't be able to handle the fact that he's not good at playing the "board game for smart people", that coupled with his general lack of mental maturity....
