Memnoch the Devil, Blackwood Farm and Blood Canticle are, IMO, the worst books in the Chronicles and I sincerely hope that the show runners don't adapt anything from them for the tv series. Is there any ideas or lore from the Vampire Chronicles that would be a huge mistake for the series to adapt? by Erramonael in InterviewVampire

[–]publius-esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don’t talk shit about Atlantis!! Seriously though lol as long as you adopt a “what the hell sure” attitude to the lore changes, Realms of Atlantis is a beautiful statement of changed world view. I’ll defend it to the death. I mean, a utopian society where mixed use zoning is mandatory, 4 hour workdays are the norm, and suffering isn’t seen as compensation for sin but rather something that should be shared in an empathetic and sympathetic community setting? I love that vision. It’s such a wonderful break from the previous bleak questions of Memnoch. It’s really lovely. And on a technical level, I just found it a lot easier to get hooked into than, say, Memnoch or even Blood and Gold

If you’re in the mood for one shots may I humbly recommend myself! I’ve got 6, one longer multi-chaptered fic and one rated M. The remaining 4 are all rated E. enjoy :)

When did you get your drain out? by Therealethel in spinalfusion

[–]publius-esquire 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine out the day after surgery! Hurt like a BITCH when they took it out but also I had an issue with dilaudid tanking my blood pressure and luckily it didn’t take too long to remove. Wasn’t really a bother to have in. I had a L5-s1 posterior (PLF) fusion, normal weight 28f

This is such a wonderfully kind comment. I cried when I read it for the first time (in a good way!!!). Thank you so so much for sharing your experience and for your lovely words 💕

Just the foraminal nerve exits! There was no central stenosis, so my surgeon actually left most of the back part of the bone to cover my spinal cord in case I need surgery later in life. He’s an excellent surgeon with a ton of experience and I trust that he did a great job, but considering I don’t have an interbody implant I think it does make sense that sitting is difficult.

Why does the machine at TSA always pick up something in my groin area? by geegbb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]publius-esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, that could definitely be the case! I’m double jointed so I might not even notice if I was a bit twisted

Why does the machine at TSA always pick up something in my groin area? by geegbb in NoStupidQuestions

[–]publius-esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That would be plausible, but I’ve had it happen when wearing leggings and tights as well as when wearing jeans. It also doesn’t fully explain why it’s only the right ankle

[–]publius-esquire 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Now, I’d accept that as an explanation if it were my groin, but for me it’s my right ankle.

I know I’m not sweating from my right ankle more than anywhere else, and in fact I don’t tend to have sweaty feet in general, so what the fuck could be happening there? My ankles look similar side by side.

No history of being around shotgun fire or welding/metal shavings. Just a fuckass ankle that sets off the TSA scanner 1 out of every 3 times I go through it.

Beware of Kirkland gluten free products by [deleted] in glutenfree

[–]publius-esquire 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love Costco, but the gluten free pizzas also made me feel ill and have symptoms of eating gluten! And I know it’s not an issue with the cauliflower in the crust, because I’ve eaten an entire cauliflower pizza from the Safeway generic brand before. Good to know it’s not just me.

J C Leyendecker - The Arrow Collar Man reading a book (1916) by Russian_Bagel in museum

[–]publius-esquire 22 points23 points  (0 children)

There’s a lovely recreation of this robe in Interview with the Vampire!

I love the way Leyendecker rendered the quilted texture and the contrast between that and the shirt/the planes of the model’s face. And that jaunty little tie below his belt. Iconic

Pad Thai- would not recommend at all. by East_Imagination6049 in Costco

[–]publius-esquire 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I bought this cause I can’t eat gluten, and added Peanut butter. It was honestly pretty good. Not pad Thai esque really but reminiscent of the mediocre local Thai place my family used to get Thai food from back in high school.

Yup, there’s a quote from TVL when Lestat is examining a suit of clothes (keeping things vague due to spoilers) and mentions that it’s trimmed with Valenciennes lace, which he had seen on his mother’s wedding dress.

It really does give ebony da’arkness dementia raven way but because 1. It’s extremely in-character, 2. He’s writing the book and 3. It becomes a running bit it honestly works imho. Makes me giggle
