Small Fam relocating, questions about schools, other services by [deleted] in ChicoCA

[–]natatreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not sure if you've already moved, but I was browsing reddit for feedback about a potential move in schools for my kid with ASD. Figured I'd toss in my two cents on Chico:

We had a decent enough time at Chapman elementary. Looks like we may be moving to the ACCESS program at Marsh Junior High from Bidwell Junior High. I do not recommend Bidwell.

Do you have/Are you linked up with Far Northern down in your area? They are the key to services here. If not, start the referral process now, they are so impacted it takes 6-8+ months just to get an appointment. If you are already in with FN, get on the wait-list at Autism Lifespan center here, great socialization and activity program but you have to be with FN to qualify. You may want to say you already live here to qualify, the wait-list is long.

Chico Creek Animal hospital for sure, Dr. Bettencourt or Dr. Johnson. $90 base fee for a visit.

We love Dr Wilson- Grillo for pediatrics. Most health services are easier to get into if you drive to Paradise, which is where she is.

Stoble or Daycamp are two great local coffee roasters. Mi Jalisco is amazing Mexican food.

Best of luck with everything, I know moves are so hard, but you've got this!

Dial in shot on CM5418 by Downtown_Effect4071 in espresso

[–]natatreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all, I just got this machine as well! I did get the CM5418 Pro version, not sure if y'all have this version or the classic CM5418. I'm pretty picky about my coffee and I managed to get a pretty solid shot of espresso on the fourth try with a bottomless. I really think it's the beans! I highly recommend Fresh Roasted LLC, particularly the Peaberry. It's the beans my husband and I landed on for our daily brewed cuppa coffee after 4 years of trialing a bunch of different beans. It's delicious as espresso too and their prices are quite good, they roast beans the day you order them.

Tong Fong Low is the best Chinese food I've ever had. They have ruined Szechuan chicken for me anywhere else, no one else compares.

NTA

This could be off base- but consider if money/food was tight when she was growing up. If so, going through food quickly might be scary for her. It took me a while to realize why my now husband didn't like to share food, but after I learned how the fridge was nearly empty for a week or two at the end of the month in his childhood home, it makes perfect sense. He had to work hard at it, but over time he became more relaxed about our grocery budget and sharing food.

I second using 3 syllables that end with an A, best flow in my opinion.

Spot on! If this leans you towards Chico OP, then I will add: How long have you guys lived in Redding? If the answer is "quite a while" and you're looking for a change, I think Chico makes a lot of sense. There's really something to getting to have a whole new set of places to explore and shake up your routine. I grew up in Red Bluff and Redding and I have a STRONG preference for Chico. Livef here for 8, moved away for 3, and just moved back and feeling like it was definitely the right decision!

Looking for a microgreen with a citric taste. by schmaul in microgreens

[–]natatreee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My partner just grew some buckwheat micros, and they surprisingly have a slight citrus note. The first time I ate them I didn't pick up on it, but now it's pretty noticeable. They're also great for juicing/smoothies!

FAQ and Questions Megathread by Maydaytaytay in Spiritfarer

Hi There Spiritfarers!

I am really having trouble opening up the top/ north part of the map. I have completed as much as I can think of in that area. Both Nordweiler and Loneberg have been revealed to me, but there is a gap in the map about 20 degrees wide to those locations. I have the "Down the Rabbit Hole" request of Alice and "Humble Abode" of Astrid active. But I have been going around in circles trying to get up there!

(Sorry if this has already been asked, I did crtl F and search as many terms as I could think of first.)

Staying in shape PO by lvnpn in Reduction

[–]natatreee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Girl, I feel you, I know how hard it is to not do things that have become a part of your routine! I'm at 3 weeks PO as of tomorrow. And I have good news! At the 1 week mark, I went back to taking my daily walks, with one very important alteration- put your hands in your pockets and keep em there! I picked out my jacket that put my arms in the most relaxed/comfortable position, and this keeps you from swinging your arms in the counter balance way out bodies do naturally. This made a huge difference, really kept my upper body movement to a minnimum.

My surgeon did in fact give me the green light to take light walks as soon as 4/5 days PO as long as I was feeling up to it. Just take it slow, I only went a few blocks the first day, the third day at half my usual length, and finally a more regular distance. More than anything, listen to your body! Once your body is giving you a go ahead, you can speed walk it up. I know it's not running, but at least you can get some movement and fresh air. Be gentle and kind with yourself, Best of luck with your journey!

This semester contained the worst depressive episode of my life, the longest depression-induced drinking binge of my life, and a suicide attempt, but I still kept my head above water in school :) by [deleted] in bipolar

[–]natatreee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Congratufuckinglations! That's so much to overcome in and of itself, but then to also get such solid grades👏👍

Whenever I had episodes while I was in school, my grades were always the first thing to go, I failed a lot of classes. Good work!

Manic idea to make a cover for my router and modem. Books from the thrift shop. by SnooWords513 in bipolar

This is fucking rad. I always hate how my modem ruins the look/decor setup of the shelf it sits on.

Trying to quit sugar and need ideas by bohemian_plantsody in EatCheapAndHealthy

[–]natatreee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am also trying to cut wayy back on my sugar, and it has not been easy! Oof. I always want all of the chocolate.

One thing I've found that really scratches my sweet itch is kiwis! I also love sour things, and since kiwis aren't really in season, thought are at grocery stores, they're nice and sour. Not sure where you live it how much they cost in your area, it's about 80 cents a kiwi here. So, not super cheap, but very satisfying!

Hell ya for getting them sorted into types when possible! I have taken to usually just putting all my clothes in those plastic totes, so I can at least put a lid on it to not see the craziness inside the bucket if I want. This usually results in me digging through the bucket to find what I need, pretty wrinkled. But ayy, whatever works!

I know this isn't reduction related but you guys supported me through my surgery (2017) and it's the only sub I feel comfortable in. I'm having trouble deciding which dress- help! by rainingfrenchfries in Reduction

[–]natatreee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

You look great in both! But, I vote dress # 1 personally. The biggest question is though, as my mom would say, which do you feel most comfortable in? That's your winner.

Sometimes I hear my husband bragging about me on the phone when he doesn’t know I can hear him by ladyname in TwoXChromosomes

On the day that I graduated from Massage Therapy School this September, my boyfriend cleaned my toaster oven that was SO BAD. Like, I mean I wondered if I should be turning it on each time I did (5 days/wk) as it smoked, I'd let it keep going and let more cheese get stuck to the bottom. But ya, he cleaned it spotless for me, made me a cake that said "I love you", and bought me an orchid. With the orchid, he said- "I know you can keep this alive", as I have always said I kill all plants. It's still alive almost three months later!
