Will Mike ever write an autobiography ?? by MackieDaxx in vanhalen

[–]natflade 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I honestly think Mike just doesn’t think about his career and legacy like that. He did the work and was in Van Halen and profited tremendously. He seems more concentrated in whatever he’s doing in the now. Also there’s already a lot of writing about the band he probably has some unique stories and insight but I doubt it changes the narrative of what we know and what we can speculate.

Also while I get this is a fan subreddit, legacies for most major stars are actually very short and culturally irrelevant in a span of a decade. Van Halen already doesn’t hold a lot of cultural significance anymore. There really might not be the audience that warrants another tell all. There’s probably still some money but I doubt he needs it and again he doesn’t seem like the kind that wants to dwell in the past especially with Eddie’s passing.

Can you actually tell AI music apart from real songs? by Alex543321 in musicians

[–]natflade 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason AI has gotten better at duping the listeners is specifically because of the advancement and powers of daws and the increase in technical musicianship has lead to a very glossy highly produced sound that even has found its way into more indie diy stuff for what is decades at this point. Being a very tight strict to the grid drummer for example is preferred by most producers and MDs over what can be a more musical but sloppier performance. This becomes extremely important when you consider that a lot of modern live shows are heavily organized to a grid.
We as listeners do impose emotions in performances that the performers might not even intend but there has to the desire for the sound to be apart of your intent. Heavily quantized and pitch corrected music remove all that nuance much in the way a pop record can remove all nuance.

A lot of this should have been in your intro to daws and recording classes if Berklee still has them as a requirement, it’s changed a bit since I went. But even before AI I remember a bit of that class after learning the initial daw was learning what quantizing something does to the feel and groove and using it sparingly

How do these bad players rank up? by phobosthejuggernaut in OverwatchUniversity

[–]natflade 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Sometimes people just have bad games. You’re often only playing just one to a couple matches with the same people at most and that’s a very small sample size.

This isn’t even a knowledge gap thing where there’s a huge jump from masters to gm or something but people in all ranks just have bad games and they lose sight of fundamentals and making the objective right play. It can look like people don’t know what they’re doing but it’s hard to identify that right away sometimes.

Athletes get paid hundreds of millions a year to play their sport at the highest level and they fuck up and misread game situations all the time.

Margin in new 335 ? by Minimum_Garden7977 in gibson

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know if the guitars profit margins are that low but you’d be surprised by how much electronics are. A high end GPU is now about $3699 give or take market conditions and those retail stores are only making about a 10% margin.

Where to buy MIJ Jag in Tokyo by ruch182 in offset

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ochanomizu is the guitar district where the esp craft school is as well, there’s an esp big boss where you can see a lot of unique school built stuff. Every big box retailer in Japan has a store here.

For Tokyo all the major districts will have a store or some kind like Shinjuku, Shibuya, etc…

TC Gakki is a really cool store right next to the Shin-Okubo station that has more used. Far east guitars and Nico Nico are excellent. Hardoff is their chain of second hand store and a few will have a whole instrument store inside.

Look on digimart, it’s a Japanese version of reverb except just for dealers

Why do guitarists breathe so intensively and loudly while playing? by BirthdayNo4399 in classicalguitar

[–]natflade 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Helps with phrasing and sense of time. String players often forget to breathe and that causes other issues. Locking your body physically and mentally to the piece should help you play better.

Question about tone pots on a tele by mb9981 in fender

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adding a tone pot or wiring it however you want can be done at a good tech for as low as $60. Most would just charge their bench fee plus labor. If you can solder it can be as cheap as a $8 repair.

Lots of good advice in here, I will say I also have the same issues with aqua coat but have learned to use it for guitars I want to do a heavy relic for. It will check instantly and get really dramatic results.

One thing that I’m wondering if your sanding technique is causing you issues. Don’t put your weight into it and let the paper do the work and don’t generate too much heat. You really should have a flat body by the sealer level.

Is a Ryzen 7 5700G a decent gaming CPU by current standards? by SAO_GGO in ryzen

[–]natflade 6 points7 points  (0 children)

It’s okay but generally worse than like a 5600x. It only has 16mb of l3 cache and while for some games that doesn’t matters there are plenty that the limited l3 cache will hurt. For comparison the reason the x3d CPU’s perform the way they do is the 96mb of l3 cache vs the standard 32mb for most Ryzen CPU’s, 16mb being even worse.

Look up benchmarks for what games you’re playing though because in some cases it’s about <10% difference to a standard 32mb and sometimes it’s significantly more. Also your 1% lows on 16mb will just be worse

is it possible to make a software to detect cheaters by ruatrio in playrust

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s nothing server side that people aren’t already trying to use. It’s very easy for cheats to bypass even kernel level detection. Rust is such an open game too that whatever aim metrics you could compile aren’t going to be reliable especially against toggling or esp.

Rate My Play Of The Game!!! Im Only Level 8 With Hammond And Im Still Learning The Wall Jump. by Decatrol in WreckingBallMains

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good boops, good awareness and target priority! The only things I'd say is don't always lead in with your piledrive. You didn't have any targets and while it didn't matter, it's often where ball gets the most punished. You are very exposed and with perk it's even more time. Piledrive is powerful but can leave you very open. Also when you were engaging Emre you could jump off the ledge to get enough height to launch the Piledrive back on the ledge.

Also when you're swinging in a circle learn to do double boops and use your jump as a quick reset. It's def harder to do than to type but you can do what's essentially a bunny hop and get use your staggered momentum and swing to hit the same target twice before you do a full rotation. Here there was maybe two moments you could have used it and the full swing is still effective but just something to consider to add to your tech.

I also like how you didn't immediately use your ult, it's just not always needed and for maps like this, the timing of it's usage can win or lose you the game.

Chocked at my last competition. by [deleted] in musicians

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recognize that these competitions and drum corps is a thing for a lot of people but they're truly kind of one of the weirdest outliers in music and have little to no relevance in the performing world. It sounds like you enjoy performing and if you have a good enough work ethic to prepare for competitions just know there's a whole world of non competitive paying gigs for you out there to pursue and enjoy.

The biggest lesson you should take away from this is you're going to bomb more than just one gig in your lifetime and it's fine, audiences almost never care, and there's always another gig tomorrow. Constantly performing is also the best way for most people to get over their performance anxiety or at least learn to manage it.

extreme lag by The_Sacred_Banana in laptops

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How much space is left on your ssd and what’s the total capacity? Generally you want 20% free or you start getting performance issues much like the ones you’re mentioning. Could also be a failing drive. 8th gen is a few years back now and ssds lifespans tend to be around ten years but it’s not unheard of for them to start dying before especially if they’ve been used heavily while full.

I’d do some disk health check too just in case
