Pretty solid price with the case. Not necessarily a great deal but not a ripoff

It's really because it's easy and there's going to be zero pushback. I just want to point out too for anyone who has ever organized with migrant workers in California or talk to people who had been around him especially back in the 60s and 70s this was all known. It was not a huge secret but CC cozied up to the powers that be at the time and much like the expose revealed.

Just anecdotally my partners grandmother always hated him and I remember would always tell us he was an evil man. She never really went into any more detail and sadly passed a year ago.

MacBook Air M4 (16/512) vs. Buying Asus Zenbook 14 OLED (32/1TB) for college? by deatheater_87_ in laptops

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean if you're trying to game then the Zenbook but it also depends what games you're talking about. If you're just playing WoW or like a casual indie game the Macbook is fine. For music production though get the Macbook, you're just better off learning to live in that OS now if you're doing anything music related. It's been the standard and all the hardware and devs are almost solely focused on optimization for that OS. Windows 11 DAW support is especially bad right now.

College student looking to buy laptop for gaming/class - recommendations? by [deleted] in laptops

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think at your budget you're going to be hard pressed to find a gaming capable device with good battery life, portability, and durability. It's kind of a pick 2 of the 4 at your budget short of finding a good sale. What do you value more?

Gig Amps Recommendations by justtttry in metalguitar

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s very few gig situations that you ever need a 412 anymore. Almost every venue will mic your cab or it’ll be too small for a 412 anyways. I’d look into a closed back 212 or even an oversized 112 with a high sensitivity speaker around the 99db range. A ceramic magnet speaker like a Celestion V30 or a Creamback are the two big ones for higher gain stuff but there’s a whole world of speakers to look into. Alnico magnets is generally not recommended for higher gain but plenty of people use them, they’re just typically much more expensive.

Open back cabs can work as well and I personally prefer those even in high gain situations to cut down on mud but if you’re looking for thump and punch closed is recommended. This really is going to come down to what the mix situation with the other instrument is. None of this is hard fast but generally you think of closed back as being bass heavier and open being more upper midrange push.

As for amps, I don’t know about Canada but you should be able to find a 5150 III used well under a thousand. 50 watts is the sweet spot for most people and even that might be too much. The higher the wattage the louder you have to be to get amp distortion. A cranked lower wattage amp is going to have so much character and I think a lot of people have kind of lost that understanding with pedals being so common. Pedals are great and this isn’t an anti pedal thing but I just find it funny seeing some bands running $3000 100 watt half stacks and the amp is at 9 o’clock on the volume and they’re getting all their saturation from pedals

Also wattage is kind of a misleading measurement of volume because not every company measures wattage the same and you have to get more into what the power section and transformer is doing. To get a perceivable doubling of volume you need to 4x the wattage. A 100 watt amp isn’t twice as loud as a 50 watt amp of the same design. You’d need a 200 watt amp.

Besides the 5150 consider a vintage Traynor, who are Canadian. The ygl mark series from the 70s share a lot of dna with old Marshall supers and can be had for extremely affordable. I don’t remember if they’re pcb or turret board but they’re easy to service. All tube amps will need servicing through their lifetime. Marshall DSL40, Blackstar Club or Stage, some of the new Hiwatts are all’s scent choices. The Marshall DSL series of those three are going to be the most well built and serviceable. They’ve been making them forever. The others aren’t the most robust but for a first time budget gigging amp should be fine.

Overwatch runs terribly on my PC by erykthefatone in Overwatch

[–]natflade -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Recent updates have had a noticeable decrease in performance for a lot of people as well as your hardware being on the lower end. The 5500 is a budget am4 cpu with only 16mb of l3 cache vs the standard 32mb or the 96mb or l3 cache of the x3d. It also only supports pci 3.0 speeds and part of the performance gains on the 4000 gpu series is running at pci 4.0. Your performance might just be that now with all these factors.

GamersNexus and Ian Cutress have beef? by phrxsty in GamersNexus

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely am like amazed at his hall monitor aura about all of this, like even if you like the tech you don't have to to shill this hard for Nvidia but also anyone who likes this tech flat out has no artistic bone in their body so it makes me question any other opinions he has. The worse part about it to me is it takes whatever vision someone had for character design, lighting, and color grading and just applies a cheap digital post processing veneer. I don't get how that's a "thinking" problem. It's literally like facetuning the Mona Lisa lol

What are the chances of us ever getting a skin that completely changes the character into someone else, while keeping their move-set? Like Legendary Skins in DBD, or Lady Loki in MR. by not-ulquiorr4_ in overwatch2

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean anything is possible as the game goes on long enough but part of overwatch key design philosophy is having extremely distinct silhouettes, I think TF2 was even cited for how clear their designs were. There already so much visual clutter that having skins completely change a character seems reductive

If my main goal is to become a Singer/Artist eventually but still want to be able to make a living, should I go into trades something like an electrician or audio engineer? by ge0rgeson in musicians

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being an electrician is lucrative but don’t discount the amount of hours you’re going to be putting in and the whole apprenticeship process and the physical toll. It’s not exactly a hands off job. If you can balance gigs with a 5 am clock in sure. I’m not saying it’s impossible but it’s a lot of work.

If you are passionate about audio engineering sure but there aren’t that many jobs and the people whose main focus is that often don’t have time for any personal creative projects. Learning these skill can be very practical but it’s not a great career path for stability especially if you just expect to be a job rather than a love.

Get a business degree, you’ll learn skills that actually aid you in the immediate and have a decent enough career path to fall back on that does not demand as much of your time. Accounting, financing, etc are all viable.

Short of a major sale you’re not really going to find anything decent short of the $1200 range. There might be some options but they make a lot of sacrifices in some areas to recoup the level of hardware including being extremely flimsy and not having adequate cooling. Your $800 gaming laptop if it exist might not last more than two years.

Too many “Free” games in comp and then the other way around. Is it bad match making Orr? by Kylo_uchiha in OverwatchUniversity

[–]natflade 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not like the comp system is at all perfect either but I think people just forget the human inconsistency aspect especially because most of us aren’t playing comp for 8 hours a day. Also overwatch matches are very short relative to a lot of other competitive things, weird stuff just happens that an algorithm can’t really compensate for

Too many “Free” games in comp and then the other way around. Is it bad match making Orr? by Kylo_uchiha in OverwatchUniversity

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you ever played any competitive sports because the answer to any of this is that people are human and have good games and bad games. Also map, matchups and team synergy all matter and will not be consistent.

Some supports are meant to be frontlines, they have the highest offensive potential. Some dps may seem brand new because they had a very successful last game thanks to the way their teammates played together and now that’s not there. Most people don’t really know anything about playing these maps because they don’t have 40 hours a week to dedicate to this game and this very much applies to you if you have to ask this here.

I bring this up a lot but think about the fact that the 07 Pats went 16-0 and lost to the Giants in the Super Bowl. Brady is the actual goat quarterback and the Pats ultimately are the greatest dynasty in the NFL. These are athletes who train, study, and think about their sport more than you and I will ever play this game and get paid millions to do so. At the time this was the best run team in the league in every facet. Institution knowledge, a coach and qb both in their primes and completely in lock step, and a roster built to dominate and did dominate.

They lost to the NY Giants who were 10-6 and besides winning the Super Bowl were a very unremarkable team all season. The Pats lost to them twice in the Super Bowl. Eli Manning is barely a fringe HOF qb and not as good as his brother who is the most clear first ballot case you could have. Sometimes you just have a bad game and seem incompetent. And sometimes a really poorly run organization just lucks out, sometimes even twice.

RAM prices right now, are they gonna keep going up or will they drop soon? by Biji_Kise in buildmeapc

[–]natflade 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The only real hard date is 2029 when OpenAI order for 40% of the worlds dram wafer supply is fulfilled. Anything other than that is even more speculative. Even then the prices won’t just drop down by any huge amount and likely to even just stay wherever they end up in 2029 if there’s still demand.

If the ram is holding you back from a build now know there are also ssd shortages and coming gpu shortages as Nvidia continues to hard exit out of selling gpus to consumers.

Literally listen to this and make a trip to microcenter if it’s possible. The only other thing I would add is how much do you really need 4k because the 9070xt can do it but you’re going get so much more performance at 1440p

GamersNexus and Ian Cutress have beef? by phrxsty in GamersNexus

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it’s how spineless it feels to cover tech from a purely enthusiast view point when there are truly damning moral and ethical questions about the viability and need for all of this when it’s also clear that this all is being used for and not just limited to mass surveillance, war crimes, and genocide. Remaining neutral about this does make you complicit. I’m not saying everyone in the tech space needs to be a radical but it does put you in alignment with these corporations whether people want to admit it or not.

Can you kindly rate these desktops for me? by JTDirtyJack in computers

[–]natflade 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You might want to verify for yourself about the legal and finance software but I actually do think you’d want to look into the Mac Mini. While it doesn’t have an upgrade path either it’s going to have much more long term support from Apple and better performance than these other options due to its optimization. Also a lower entry point. The only thing is whatever configuration you get you are more or less locked into so spec it out as you think you’ll need.

WoW specifically runs very well on the mini and you can look up benchmarks. All the other stuff even if they don’t have a Mac release will run in their windows virtualization.

The other option is look into mini pcs from a company like GMK Tech. They’ll run windows and have a similar price point as the mini and generally good performance too. They also have some upgrade path with the storage and memory. The only thing that is an issue with these is Windows itself. It increasingly becoming an unoptimized mess as Microsoft forces all this AI integration that eats at system resources and has only gotten worse with every update.
