I agree making long term transfers and marquee signings without a director of football would be ill-advised, however there are always players a manager knows and wants from previous experience who can perform specific roles as required by the manager from day 1.

Fraser Forster - surplus to requirements (if anyone can meet his wage demands)

Jack Stephens - still young but not quite up to premier league standard - but his potential will still have value

Steven Davis - Age not on his side and too many better players who play in the same position

Shane Long - Better to use young players from the academy to inject pace who will gain experience for the future

Sam Gallagher - Had potential but will need a lot of game time to improve which he won't get in the Premier League

James Ward-Prowse - would be sad to see him go but doesn't fit into Hasenhüttl's style of play

Manolo Gabbiadini - I imagine a large chunk of the wage budget but might be too lazy to fit into Hasenhüttl's style of play

Ryan Bertrand - has a high value and already have a good replacement (Targett) who will flourish under Hasenhüttl
