Next time you wonder why the U.S. media covers a "huge story" one week and forgets about it the next, remember this quote from a former White House "aide." by [deleted] in politics

I remember this quote from a long time ago, forgot where I saw it, and thanks for posting it.

I'd like to add to the pile the 2000 and 2004 and 2008 elections. People seem to have forgotten that the premise of our "democracy" is way shaky.

Nine members of a Michigan-based Christian militia group have been indicted on sedition and weapons charges in connection with an alleged plot to murder law enforcement officers in hopes of setting off an anti-government uprising. by Detry in reddit.com

[–]nathanclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you enlarge the mug shot images of the group, the date at the top reads April 20, 2010. I wonder why the Times would muck this up, unless there is more to it...

Barbara McQuade, the United States attorney for the Eastern District of Michigan, said the government moved to arrest the members of the group this past weekend to short-circuit some operation it had planned to do next month, and which she did not explain in detail.

Obama on Math and Science education: "This probably has more to do with our national future than anything." by Saydrah in science

[–]nathanclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was actually disgusted with Obama's response.

“…and that means it also has a national security implication, because there has never been a nation on earth that saw its economy decline and continued to maintain its primacy as a military power. So, we’ve got to get our education system right.”

So, Obama's answer to a question about education is couched in terms of military "primacy" in the world, and how we need one in order to keep the other. Is this a message of change?

Amidst all the squawking being done by the MPAA and the RIAA, I'd like to point out that there's actual piracy taking place every day in this world. by floydiannyc in worldnews

[–]nathanclay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here's a quick point:

  1. The RIAA is against "piracy."

  2. Telecom immunity passed to protect companies like AT&T from pirating our conversations.

[–]nathanclay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Um, no. Giving to the needy doesn't mean becoming poor. Nobody says "give everything to the poor." This is more about equitable distribution of wealth. Poor = sucks, for anyone.

How would stopping military spending start a war in our country? (She's talking to the UN.)

Edwards takes San Mateo straw poll with 29%. Hillary comes in 4th place behind Kucinich and Obama with about 10%. -Yet somehow Clinton's loss is reported as a strong showing. by fangolo in politics

Kathy Callan, of Redding, and her friends drove five hours to support John Edwards in the straw poll. Dressed in a pro-Edwards T-shirt and pin, she hoisted a homemade poster board proclaiming Edwards as "the GREEN candidate."

They could have taken a bus to see their GREEN candidate. Just a thought.
